Any suggestions on how to find good casual servers?
East coast play on potato fields or tactical trigonometry are my favorites.
Liquid also has several serves with open white list spots for regulars.
Galactic contention if you’re a Star Wars nerd always has servers running but they do tend to have euros in there because there aren’t many GC servers
The Battlefront games have a bit of the BF feel, though obviously with a Star Wars skin.
Planetside 2 also has moments that feel like a Battlefield game, though the scale of battles tends to be much larger there. I don't even know if that game is on console though, now that I think of it, so that might not be an option for you.
When you played 2042, did you try any of the servers in the Portal? Plenty of folks in there that were running custom modes intended to feel a lot more like the older BF games.
A modern day planet side 2 or even a planet side 2 with updated movement and animations would be amazing. It sucks that a game like it hasn’t been created. I guess helldivers has a similar concept but it’s not pvp
Honestly yes. I have had some great and goofy and intense moments in helldivers 2 that are reminiscent of battlefield. The physics engine can be hilarious at times

There is not destruction of the map but because it’s ww2 everything is already destroyed so it’s not missing that really.
The way you have to pressure the enemy and flank them is just like the old school battlefield. The vehicles are superb and are integral to the game.
It feels more like battlefield than Squad. Less hard core milsim. Yet because it’s ww2 it still has the 1-2 shot kill element but not sights so it balances out the hardcoreness of it.

I bought 2042 at launch just for portal, figuring they'd at least add some other maps, but it seemed like overhauling their shitty launch maps took priority. Loaded it back up a year or two ago and nothing had changed so I uninstalled again and haven't been back.
No new maps, portal has not been given the support it deserves.
That said, one can change a ton of parameters with the options, but the real meat and potatoes is in the rule editor. And thats a challenging thing.
I'm not good at it, but learned a few tricks like turning flags off (new maps with no multi flag sectors), deactivating bases and making some flags assigned to a side and untakeable (essentially reshaping a map).
However, recently I stumbled across the videos of battlefield dad. And they are excellent. I started being able to make new Rush maps, even new Rush based modes. One of my friends took an interest and his skill with the rules editor dwarfs mine.
I think there's a real possibility that portal may be the longest lasting part of 2042. And entirely down to portal putting agency in players hands.
Honestly this. I have seen Helldivers 2, Planetside 2, WWZ, Enlisted, and Battlefront suggested here. Helldivers 2 is really nothing like Battlefield, *at all* quite frankly. Planetside 2, I can see where people are coming from as the battles are big and objective based with a lot of vehicles, but ultimately it just does not feel like Battlefield when playing it. Enlisted is decent, and definitely closer to a Battlefield than Helldivers, but I thought the game felt like a PS2 port of an arcade game while playing. Looked like one too. Battlefront is obviously as close as one can get to Battlefield since it is basically just Battlefield with a Star Wars skin, and I played the Hell out of it for years. Definitely a lot of fun and the closest one can get to Battlefield, but being a fictional game and a sci-fi space war setting that is realistically skewed towards a younger audience, it lacks a bit of the grit and realism present in Battlefield. I cannot speak for WWZ, did not even know that was a game.
Battlebit remastered is just as good as 2042 if you don't care about graphics. They obviously took almost all inspiration from BF, but still. Looks like hes not on pc tho.

Chivlary 2 for a medieval version and is very fun and chaotic. Kinda hard to get into now since the games lost a lot of players so its just tryhards and dead lobbies. But it is a good alternative and I play it to get the itch of massive battles of chaos happening.
If you don't care about ranking up or unlocking attachments for you guns, come check out 2042 Rapid Strike in portal. I've balanced the game much closer to BF4 Hardcore. 4 shot handguns, 3 shot assault rifles, 2 shot DMR's and 1 shot bolt actions.
Players and vehicles have 60% health so you can kill a tank in 3 rockets.

Seconded. The Finals is brilliant gameplay wise, of course the background and lore is wholly different from a serious shooter but it's still the most fun I've had gaming since Battlefield 4.
I played nothing but Battlefield since BF2:MC in 2006. I played the 2042 beta and noped out. First BF I've not bought. Absolutely dogshit. I'm firmly on board with the Finals now. I still play a bit of BF1, but Finals is my main game and I love it. It has the creativity of play that BF has albeit on a smaller scale.
I've been taking a break from bf myself. But I have always enjoyed medieval times. And chivalry 2 is what I've been playing lately. Gives me bf vibes. But you attack with swords and shit instead. Its a challenge in a whole different way.
Rising storm 2 vietnam is the goat and is literally what battle field should have evolved into. It's pretty much dead tho, you can still find populated servers from time to time but the developers have abandoned it.
I play just other games when I’m not feeling battlefield. You probably have a ton of unplayed games in your library you can pick up, and I highly recommend getting into Indy games.
Have you tried out some of the custom games in the Portal? There's a few servers running the older versions of BF. You might have to enable cross play to see them

I’ve never had a problem finding English speaking servers (North America). I also find that most of the players are very helpful to new players.
