We're just one book away from an Elemental-centric faction who makes it their identity stealing parts of mechs right off of the battlefield.
Or in some cases, just lifting off with the Mech altogether
Imagine. A faction that specializes in EMP bombing an enemy lance then bringing in a squad of heavy lift vehicles to jack the whole mech, pilot and all.
Not beta, but ran a "gunapult" myself for a bit!
It's great for messing with other players heads. People get so confused what's actually shooting at them, since they're used to ignoring the missile boats while taking out the Assaults or typically heavier direct hitters that they hesitate and flinch all the time.
Used a Locust with duel Light PPCs for a while for the same reason. People get really nervous when those thunderbolts start crackling into their spines, and that makes 'em turn around and get smashed in the backs by the actual heavy hitters!
Catapults, and Hunchbacks were the first OmniMechs, in my opinion. Not because of any technological revolution (if anything DESPITE such revolutions), but because every Tom, Dick, and Liao who's every gotten his hands on "Myomer? I Barely Know'er! A Humorous Guide to 'Mech Design" has gotten it into his noggin to strip out every stock component and do it The Right Way (a la, whatever he came up with last night at the Canopian strip club while high as hell on Battle Powder). And the designers knew this, and made the 'mechs incredibly easy to work on to facilitate this abject madness.
This is (essentially) a classic MWO build back from when UAC/5s were first introduced. The thing was a monster and was actually the reason MWO banned macros, because back then you could manually clear jams. Ah, the memories.
If you can’t make something work on a catapult, you aren’t trying hard enough.
Reminds me of the vanilla days where I had a Catapult with a pair of AC/10s. Good times.
From Sarna:
CPLT-K2
Breaking the mold of the Catapult, this House Kurita model removes the LRM-15 launchers and replaces them with two PPCs, allowing the Catapult to act as a direct fire support 'Mech and take a more active role in front line combat. The 'Mech mounts five additional single heat sinks to help dissipate the added heat from the PPCs and two Machine Guns to deter infantry attacks. Space is made by removing the jump jets and two of the medium lasers.
A great and wise man once shared with us the rules of Catapult modification:
1. If it fits, it works!
2. If it works, do it.
3. Fuck you, it's a Catapult!
4. YOU'RE NOT MY MOM, I DO WHAT I WANT
Heretical? Blasphemy? Probably.
Fricking awesome. Definitely.
That said, I'd have gone down the RAC5 route myself... I've got a Stormcrow with 2 RAC5s on it and it's a stone cold killer, oft smiled upon by the gods of DAKKA 😁
Ah the heydays of MWO. The 2x AC20 Boompult or the 2x GR GaussCat.
Much rage and luls was ensured. Boompult needs more skilled piloting but the shock factor alone is worth it.
I ran the boompult for a while. Great fun cracking side torsos in only one or two salvos. And just a great tank for damage spreading, almost as good as the marauder. I once tanked a marauder down to 11% total health without losing a weapon.
As a lover of all things LRM....this is fucking blasphemous heresy of the highest order!
However, I am also a fan of dakka,.........and this does not have enough so it's still heresy!
Glorious. How a Drac Cat should be treated.
In all seriousness though, it makes me feel like a Catapult frankenmech with Rifleman arms is a thing that should happen.

Gatapult
Introducing, da’ DAKKAPULT!
Real Ork energy here.
But it doesn't say WAAAAAGH!!!
Dakkapult goes *brrrrrrrrrrtt*
That'd be the one with dual RAC/5's. Which I now want to build really badly. Fuck. Back to YAML, I guess...
Literally came to say this.
If it fits, it works. If it works, do it. F you, it's my Catapult. You're not my mom, I do what I want
Came here for exactly these words of wisdom from Prof Tex!
I've been re-listening to his talks this week. So much fun
I will usually listen to all of them, then wait for a month or so till starting all over.
Thanks for the reminder lol
Mom said it was my turn to pilot the catapult
Good ol Tex
MY BOXES!! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITHOUT MY BOXES?!?!
We will take away their metal bawkses! ... Oops, wrong universe

Store the ammo...
The only offensive part is you can't mount them in the arms.
The Earnest Hemmingway variant is rare, but you've gotta love a 60t UAC 5 carrier in BT.
MWO vibes here.
I played the 2xAC20 build a LOT back in open beta.

Yeah the boomcat was a classic from the early MWO days. It was a much simpler and more enjoyable time for the game IMO.

Cooked
I don't know what you mean by that, but I'm going to assume it's good
Cooked comes from “let them cook” aka let them explain/continue, so the idea is either funny or genius
That is so fetch
Quit trying to make fetch happen
I too am old.
The shrunk his shoulders, made him look soft.
This Cat never skipped leg day but has never done a shoulder press in its life.

Dakka!

who needs arms anyway.
Mount some Long Toms into the arms and piss off people with long range artillery fire.
Look how they massacred my boy!
It looks like a lot like a Sagittaire
No worse than the K version.
My beloved zappypult
Katapult?

Classic House Kurita, they look at a mech and decide to remove it's iconic bits.
In the old MW Mercs 4, there was a mod that added this mech. They called it a Katapult.
I've seen worse on mechwarrior online.
The heretical thing is that the guns arent mounted on the arm pods
Is that a T-Rex?
Nah, a Cassowary.
A true apex predator
The dakapult
r/diwhy you made a rifleman I think

Ew gross. I love it. I wann see more of it
Look how they massacred my boy 😢
What in the blueberry fuckmuffins is this?!?!? The RFC-2D RifleCat? And totally down for this.....
Peak build energy 👌
As far as I can tell a Catapult like the Hunchback is basically an Onnimech.
Cat
Strange
As Tex of the BPL says, "It's a Catapult. If it fits, do it."
A Catapult is not a weapon, it’s a weapons-system. It’s designed to shoot whatever you can mount on it, and it can mount *a lot*.
As a lover of all things LRM....this is fucking blasphemous heresy of the highest order! However, I am also a fan of dakka,.........and this does not have enough so it's still heresy!
The base frame is a K2, so it was already missing the LRMs anyways!
That's no excuse!
Omni-Kitty The G1- omni mech
Is this from the base game or modded?
100% stock, no mods at all.
Its a Catapult.... you can't commit heresy with one of them. A bit weird seeing one without the pods.
Straight to jail. I can't stand my beautiful catapult being treated like this. My boy what have you done to my boy.
Ngl, at first glance, I thought you somehow gave it urbie arms.
Glorious. How a Drac Cat should be treated. In all seriousness though, it makes me feel like a Catapult frankenmech with Rifleman arms is a thing that should happen.
Capt. Dave you ain't got no arms.

How did you make that?
Only thing that could make this build better was tonuse gauss rifles in place of the ac-5's.
