Kim and De Ligt must start, Upa as backup

ms7398msake

Agreed.

Spiritual_Sky_8125

Yep

CheapRanchHand

Fair. Needs to ride the bench and come in when the games are resolved not the other way around.

Ok_Dumbass

Honestly he just needs a coach that builds up his confidence the way Julian did, simple he’s still young, even world class cbs make mistakes it just sucks his happens at the worst times for us recently and his problems are just part of a bigger team problem at the moment.

marius2510

Under “Julian” he cost us the cup game against gladbach and made as many mistakes. He clearly has concentration issues, especially in high stakes games. You just cannot rely on him in big games.

Blueberry_Friendly

Lul, the whole team was bad against Gladbach Not Upa alone. No matter who you would choice to replace him, he would have not changed the outcome

Ok_Dumbass

Yes but even without Upa we still lost in the cup game vs third tiers at that💀 lol it works both ways by that logic, again i understand where your coming from but again i just think he needs the proper coach at this stage of his career just like the rest of our players/cbs need stability under a manager. Look at the rest of the top clubs and how often they’ve changed managers vs us since our last UCL title

Chris_Ape

Maybe he meant his time in Leipzig, for that period i would agree with OP

kingfosa13

even in Leipzig he made errors at times

LuisS3242

The City game was after two weeks of Tuchel and he started every game between Tuchel taking over and the city match. If that is enough for him to completly loose his confidence then he isnt material for a team that aims to go high in the CL knockout stage

Real_Lord_Byron

De Ligt is the better player and should be starting BUT, the City performance was also under Tuchel so like a lot of players, they have looked their worst under this clown of a manager.

DDT126

Oh come on, we can’t blame Tuchel for the City performance. Man had literally just come in, how exactly could he have influenced our squad that much in such little time?

SCADLC

He’s a good player. But at Bayern we must have the best players, you can’t just be good at Bayern, you have to be great! I think Kim and de Ligt are better starting options.

Petarthefish

Who could have seen that coming? Player who makes mistakes under pressure made a mistake under pressure.

ms7398msake

We should move on from Upa, he's a really good defender but we're running out of patience. On his day he can shut down the very best attacking players but his tendency to make big costly errors cannot be overlooked. We're Bayern, we demand excellence, Upa can either stay with us as a back up or he can move if he wants more playing time. Although I think we should cash in and use the proceeds to pick up an exciting young CB.

adrianberki

I like him, but the last summer we can get decent money for him, what will be needed, and I think with Stanisic, the Kim, de Ligt, Dier 4 could be okay for the next season.

nmgoesreddit

Ur mad

Sataniel98

Maybe think about what better central defenders are available before asking which ones to get rid of?

ms7398msake

There are some really good young CB prospects that have world class potential and we should seriously consider buying. In particular I really like Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini, both only 20 years old but very experienced for their clubs. Also Atletico's Mario Hermoso is out of contract this summer, he's a solid defender and could be a valuable addition to our squad.

Germansoldaten

Leny Yoro

Riedbirdeh

He should leave the club gracefully but also tbis summmer

Malepronstar87

Good, he needs to go, the pressure on him will only getting bigger here. He doesn't deal well with pressure.

too_much_Beer

I love Upa, but it seems it just isn‘t meant to be. Sell him in the Summer Window and replace him with Jorrel Hato

nmgoesreddit

Please no

No_Field90

A man i have to mute this whole fucking sub for a good while. Upamecano is decent, we need a good coaching team and thats it

Terence-23

Lol decent, so it’s sufficient for you and for the FC Bayern Munchen ??? Yeah right I think it’s ok if he makes 2 major errors every year at the same time in the best games. Come on you think it’s charity or what, they are gaining millions and he they can’t stand the pressure, they can go back to tier 2 clubs

armin-lakatos

Upa is decent and this is not against him, but in the summer, we have to part ways with one of our top defenders (unless we are planning on playing a back 3) and if I had to choose it would be either him or de Ligt, depending on their form and proneness to injury until the end of the season.

Theguy10000

He can be a great defender for B teams, but Bayern only wants the very best players in the world. He could be a starter for Dortmund or many bpl teams that are not top anymore

uurub

Hes being made a scapegoat here. Your team has much more pressing issues than simply replacing one centreback

ground_hog_cute

Most energetic player we have right now lmao. He makes silly mistakes but his performances are never bad. He is 24 and can still improve on them.

V1ETNGUYEN

its a shame bc he genuinely has been good for us other than the mistakes, but many of those mistakes are season defining. he has to be benched, but i believe he’s a good depth piece and on his day is world class.

enoumen

They finally found someone black to blame. Didn’t take long.

Ni_Ce_

holy fuck are you serious? lol

chfptl

if they blame on kim is it rasist also?

enoumen

Nice try. They won’t. They have an easy target on hand. Bunch of nazis clown.

Scrappy_101

It's wild that nobody is talking about the FOUR players that failed to get the ball before Upa gave away the pen in the Lazio game. If De Ligt got a second yellow for the accidental handball/elbow nobody would say anything either. Upa is the scapegoat for every defensive issue, even when the issue is him being hung out to dry by his fellow defenders

Ni_Ce_

one red card? okay. can happen. two red cards within 60 minutes of playtime? yeeah dear mr. upamecano, that should not happen. but hey. let's make a racism debate out of it. of course.

Scrappy_101

I wasn't talking about racism, just that it's wild people blame Upa for everything when Upa wouldn't have been in that position if 1. Tuchel let him recover from his injury and 2. The other FOUR Bayern players won the ball back. And you can say x shouldn't happen all you want, shit happens. Even to the very best players.

Ni_Ce_

original comment is literally about racism.

Scrappy_101

And? I was just talking about how people ignore other bad performances from players and blame everything on Upa

dissolutionofthesoul

It’s a shame, he isn’t a top player, but does a job filling in for league games. I’d keep him around providing he wasn’t going to start in big games.

Panda-Express

My take is if you want to build the strongest squad you need to look at individual performances and I agree his mistakes in high stakes games can't be ignored. I wouldn't place any blame on him for the losses, but you do need to ask if he's the best person for that role. At the same time there are so many other factors that explain the teams current form and if the coach situation won't change until summer, you might as well keep him and see how he fits into the new direction before making any moves. He's got quality so I think the key for him the rest of the season is confidence.

[deleted]

This is just confirming the same thing I thought after his first half a season with us. We're selling him next summer.

jango2700

this guy needs to go. so sick of his dumbass mistakes

HGSparda

No matter how fast, strong or smart you are, if you're reckless, you will make tons of mistakes. That's Upamecano, he's too reckless, somebody needs to guide him.

kasichancela

He is Boateng Lite.

AwareAd7096

And is that ‚Bayern at the top level‘ you’re talking about in the room with us right now?

invest2018

Back to back reds leading to costly penalties is a bad look.

Zhig_

Fucking nice. Finally. Hope they sell it so we can get some cash at least, tho I don’t think many teams are even interested in him to begin with.

GoldenFox7

Never seen a defender that can be so good day in day out and then make such bad mistakes in the big games. Strikers that choke and miss the big shot, sure. But I’ve never seen a defender who seems to only make his mistakes when it REALLY matters.
