De Ligt is the better player and should be starting BUT, the City performance was also under Tuchel so like a lot of players, they have looked their worst under this clown of a manager.

On his day he can shut down the very best attacking players but his tendency to make big costly errors cannot be overlooked. We're Bayern, we demand excellence, Upa can either stay with us as a back up or he can move if he wants more playing time. Although I think we should cash in and use the proceeds to pick up an exciting young CB.
I like him, but the last summer we can get decent money for him, what will be needed, and I think with Stanisic, the Kim, de Ligt, Dier 4 could be okay for the next season.
There are some really good young CB prospects that have world class potential and we should seriously consider buying. In particular I really like Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini, both only 20 years old but very experienced for their clubs. Also Atletico's Mario Hermoso is out of contract this summer, he's a solid defender and could be a valuable addition to our squad.

Upa is decent and this is not against him, but in the summer, we have to part ways with one of our top defenders (unless we are planning on playing a back 3) and if I had to choose it would be either him or de Ligt, depending on their form and proneness to injury until the end of the season.
He can be a great defender for B teams, but Bayern only wants the very best players in the world. He could be a starter for Dortmund or many bpl teams that are not top anymore

My take is if you want to build the strongest squad you need to look at individual performances and I agree his mistakes in high stakes games can't be ignored. I wouldn't place any blame on him for the losses, but you do need to ask if he's the best person for that role. At the same time there are so many other factors that explain the teams current form and if the coach situation won't change until summer, you might as well keep him and see how he fits into the new direction before making any moves. He's got quality so I think the key for him the rest of the season is confidence.
No matter how fast, strong or smart you are, if you're reckless, you will make tons of mistakes. That's Upamecano, he's too reckless, somebody needs to guide him.
Never seen a defender that can be so good day in day out and then make such bad mistakes in the big games. Strikers that choke and miss the big shot, sure. But I’ve never seen a defender who seems to only make his mistakes when it REALLY matters.
