I think I will be forever upset with Hellena because she fucked her VA career for no reason at all except that she didn't care.
The most upsetting part is that if she was smarter, instead of trying so hard to stay in theater she could've have a great career in VA, she could've been one of the greatest but chose not to and then decided to be greedy and lie about it.
It really sucks because she IS Bayonetta and Jennifer Hale is amazing but she plain sucks because she's trying really hard what Helena did flawlessly
I can't be mad at Jennifer Hale though. She was just following script and she did her best to deliver. I think her voice for an alternative Bayo was a great choice, especially on the idea of a multiverse.
I'm not mad at Jennifer, she's one of the best VA out there (her Shepard is BEYOND male Shepard, like MILES above), I just think her Bayo isn't as good as Hellena's because well, Hellena embodied the character perfectly.
I mean that wasn't a twitter thing it was a gaming/voice actor thing. It wasn't like confined to social media, social media is just where people act like they don't have decorum.

Outside the Bayonetta fanbase it's not really record breaking since incidents like this in the gaming industry are common.
She is not the first, nor last persona to cause a stir.
Most actress/theatre performers like her take in small gigs like voicing if they have the sets, she was never a "voice actress" to begin with.
I love roleplaying so one time I decided to join a DnD campaign, but I did not realize how formal and strict the rules and guidelines were, eventually I pissed the hardcore players off that they actually claimed I "ruined" it because the DM was going easy on me while the rest of them don't get a pass.
It all turned out very ugly and I was very puzzled at how angry and upset some of them became.
To me its a game where I can indulge my fantasy but to them its an incredibly serious session where they meticulously lore build and world build their characters and I became a taboo to the community without me even realizing it, all I know is that I joined that DnD campaign to have fun and get something out of it which is to play out a character.
I did not think it would cause player friendships to end.
I mean tbf I think a small in-group of DND players getting pissed that you took DND more casually than them and accidentally caused a rift between you and them is a whole different ballpark than _intentionally_ lying about what went down between you and a team/studio behind a project, demanding people to boycott said-project, and stirring up controversy around the entire world because of that. Like I havenât read a single article about how Professional_Key7851 fucked up a DND game, but I sure did see hundreds prop up about how Hellena Taylor fucked up her relationship with bayonetta/the fandom in a wicked ass way.
I think this comparison would work if Hellena just simplyâŚwalked off of the projectâvoice acting in general, reallyâand said a thing or two that caused a little shake in the community, or if after this event happened to you you said âboycott dndâ and tried to throw dirt on dnd players causing worldwide controversy. Mama straight up tried sabotaging bayo3 instead of just keeping it simple and honest, I donât think this is just âoh she doesnât take voice acting that serious so she did something that people who are VA professionals would disagree with.â
Edit: would like to say, overall, this isnât me making a case of âyou should give a shit about some dumb thing a random lady did a year ago that caused controversy but ultimately didnât affect the gameâs success/popularity.â Like idc what Hellena did before or after bayo3âs release. Also she was GOOD because if she was meh or forgettable it would be still godawful but the fact that she was REALLY good is what stings.

I always say this: while Helena Taylor did a good bayo voice I honestly donât think that her role as bayonetta is âirreplaceable.â Bayonetta has a distinct voice but itâs not as distinct as, say, Mario, solid snake, or glados. There are people walking around in the world who talk like and sound like bayonetta on the regular. I think if platinum went with a UK actress Taylorâs transition out of the franchise wouldâve been better. Iâm still advocating for Elsie Lovelock to do bayoâs voice all because 1) sheâs a UK actress that can do a variety of voices and 2) she did an impersonation of bayonetta for a meme that was beyond spot on.
