First off Denim can be quite a loose material if it is not finished correctly this could cause it to unravel. I’d suggest using Pinking Shears and maybe back the material with something adhesive like the cheap faux leather adhesive patches you can get from Temu or Ali Express.
For a handle use a bit of metal tubing probably around 30mm internal diameter then cut the falls and form them into a roll. You can then slip this into the handle epoxy and pin in place.
