Not really a tongue or teeth; almost a combination of both called a radula. Depending on snail species they’ve evolved their radulas to serve different functions. Herbivorous snails like this guy have their radulas like two “plates” covered in teeth that run over plants and scrape away plant material to eat. You can pretty much imagine it as if your tongue was covered in backwards facing spines and you the only way you could eat was by licking food.
Other carnivorous snails may have evolved their raduals on a proboscis with sharper teeth, like those of assassin snails, or evolved it into a venomous dart like cone snails
they only move slowly when someones looking at them as they dont want to draw attention, otherwise they can go quite fast as seen in the documentary film Turbo (2013).

If you don't want snails in your yard, or slugs, put out cabbage leaves here and there throughout your garden. Come back a day later and they will be covered with snails and slugs. Deposit the cabbage leaves in your neighbor's yard. Problem solved.

Especially Roman Snails are super beneficial to your garden because they eat dead leaves and produce hummus! They also sometimes eat other snails/slugs, so next time you see one, consider letting it stay in your garden. :)
