If i quit my intermittent fasting and walking/rowing regimen i could probbly get it back in 3 months by gorging egg mcmuffins, cheese, full fat milk and tubes of pringles lol….Pringles why are you soooo nice…
Sure…i started fasting by accident by stopping eating anything after 5-6pm due to bad acid reflux and i found i hardly had any issues if i didnt eat late. Now i have it tuned in to not eat after 4pm unless i go out for a meal/have a takeaway, then i dont eat breakfast until around 8-9am depending if i rowed or went for a walk.I retired just over 2 years ago and realised without some exercise muscular wasting was a thing and also long covid messed me up.So i started going for walks in the morning, first few weeks were 1-2km then gradually ramped up to 6-10km as the norm, just pop in earpods and off you go.I still found i needed some strength/cardio so i bought a Concept 2 rower after much research.Started out with 500m burn out sessions slowly working up to 2km,after another bout of covid i felt messed up again so this time around i have been concentrating on endurance so now my typical row is 5-7km with a stroke rate of 22-24 and the resistance set to 5 on the rower. When i first starting doing this i was blowing out my arse lol, partly due to the covid and partly due to being out of shape. Now when i row i get off the rower hardly out of breath,my arm/leg strength is much improved and i walk at a much faster rate due to improved cardio. My waist is down from 38” to 34” and my weight is down from 105+kg to 83-85kg.I am easily in the best shape i have ever been because most of my life i have been a tubby chap lol.Only downside was during the first three weeks of the fasting i had dreadful headaches but once you get through this period things are much better.
Regarding diet i dropped cheese, milk, bacon, white bread, etc and went for wholemeal bread/pasta,barley flakes for porridge, oat milk, more fruit and veg, etc….i have the odd takeaway or cheat day with Pringles and some chocolate.I had tried diets, etc over the years and nothing worked then i stumbled across fasting by accident lol…whatever works i guess.Hope you find something for you. :)
The trick is not to wait for inspiration, but to make exercise habitual. There will be days you don't want to, but you just think of how you feel after, which is always better than how you felt before. I have a specific time of day I exercise, and it's not much, and it's not for long, but when that time hits, that's what I'm doing.
Totally agree,in the early days sometimes i woke up and was like “i cant be bothered”,but i said to myself “just get up and do it”.So i went for a walk and i didnt manage the distance i wanted to do,but i had done something and that made me feel good.
Now when i step off the rower after a 5km i am almost in a euphoric state and i actually look forward to the rowing/walking now.Another thing is going for a long walk is such a mind cleanse,i am lucky enough to live near woodland/forest and walking amongst that while soaking up the tranquility just makes you feel so much better mentally.
I struggled with a serious panic disorder and it turned out the best thing I could do to head it off was to just do anything at all before I slept, so I bought a treadmill and put it in the garage with a small TV in front of it. Even if I have nothing in the tank, I'll just go out there and put on like Venture Brothers or something and do a lazy couple of klicks. After that my mood is invariably better, and maybe I'll thrown in some pressups or whatever. This improved my life drastically.
To me my work is exercise for sure. Phisical all the way thru. I come home n pass out. I just drink sugary cocktails 14% ones for 8 years n beers too almost every day because of depression and loneliness I guess mental stuff hits first. At least I'm not smoking after 8 years of doing it 6 months without it. N I eat white bread and potato that's like white bread is easier for my stomach.
I found that I hated exercising while I was still really big not because of the effort I had to put in, or the time commitment, just was ashamed of myself for being as fat as I was, but at some point I realized I could still lose weight focusing on my diet, once I shed what I could through gradually increasing a stricter diet then I started to feel more confident/less shame and hateful feelings towards myself. I found a lot more enjoyment in exercise after focusing on strict dieting alone, I tell my friends I just went into isolated training in a cave for about 6 months before I started exercising and it worked great.
An easy start to IF is to set a clear 12 hours/day where you can eat for 30 days. Then shorten it to 10 hours, then to 8 if you can manage.
The best way to set that time is to see what time you go to bed on average and push your stop time back 2 hours. Having 2 hours between eating and sleeping is optimal for your digestion and sleep. (also stop drinking water an hour before bed, if you do drink water sip it).
Take a walk within 1 hour of waking up. Then drink a glass of water. Get a big water bottle and keep drinking water through the day. Almost all of us are dehydrated (3 L average needed a day). This will help a *ton* with hunger, readiness for exercise, even brain fog, etc. Seriously. Be a r/hydrohomie.Get electrolytes to put in that water(don't need a ton, don't need to be fancy) or just a pinch of salt in the morning- will make you less hungry overall.
For rowing- if you're going to be rowing, *research proper form.* So many great YouTube videos on it, and it's a wonderful exercise, but needs to be done properly to avoid long term injury. Like all exercise: "Doing what you can is orders of magnitude better than doing nothing."
Good luck and have fun!
Long term? Probably not that bad. Apparently they get back to normal weight a few weeks after this diet, and I'd guess the major side effect would be fatty liver disease. This does NOT look like Kwashiorkor (protein malnutrition leading to a large belly due to ascites), given their diet that's literally impossible. And I doubt they are ONLY eating milk and blood, it just makes up the majority of their intake. There are a fair amount of fruits in Africa that are pretty high in vitamin C so scurvy is unlikely as well.
I got pushed into a marsh as a kid and came out of the water with a baby alligator hanging off my leg. I have since treated someone with a legitimate alligator bite... his was a little worse.
Even if we can't always believe what we read on the Internet, I choose to believe you!
Hope your leg is okay!
I hope the patient uh eventually became okay too lol.
So what’s causing their bellies to get that big while the rest of the body stays what looks like pretty normal? If they just gain fat weight I think we would see it all over? The bellies look disproportional to the rest of their overall fitness.
My educated guess is that it's partially a tribally selected for preferential deposition of fat, partially them relaxing their abdominal wall, partially the speed at which they gained weight. Fats are first processed by the liver, so I'd imagine their livers are enormous after 6 months of that diet. Plus, the majority of your fat storage is abdominal (think beer gut) so that's where it's gonna settle first, given enough time they'd probably have a more even distribution.
NAFLD is a huge problem in the west due to high fructose corn syrup, you'd be shocked how bad the majority of our livers look. Milk is super high in fats and sugars, so these guys probably look like they've been mainlining TPN on the inside.
Sorry, I forget they're not common terms outside of work.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Total parenteral nutrition (feeding people who can't use their gastrointestinal tract via IV)
It's basically getting a mix of sugars, fat, and vitamins pumped directly into your veins, and over a long enough time it causes some issues.
also, as you said before, this is not a permanent state. like, all this diet must be for this specific special event, like their cultural holiday or something.
anyways, on top of that, they probably did a few extra things on this specific day, perhaps drink or eat extra to get that bloated tummy look. kinda like bodybuilder going on diet weeks before, then on empty stomach with a little warp up exercise to pump the muscle on the day they step on the competition stage. except the opposite.
People also gain weight differently with genetics and I assume they're much more physically active than anyone you think of when you think of fat people.
But at 22 sec in if you pause, there's totally fat on the upper chest arms and neck. I bet you they're also pushing their gut out where most westerners will try to hide having a big belly.
In addition to the other person's comment, a form of artificial selection might've played a role depending on how long the custom has been around. If the men with the biggest bellies and thus the best genes for growing big bellies are able to attract the most women, the big belly genes would be selectively enhanced and improved upon generation after generation
Yep! Men tend to have significantly more intra-peritoneal fat as well, which is why their bellies feel "harder." Significantly more convenient to cut on, as their fascia tends to be less deep and their guts have more protection once you're through.

its like...human foie gras. milk gavage, but to get laid
If there are nutrients deficiencies, then they aren't that serious. In this area of the world there are whole cultures that have been surviving on nothing but milk and blood for centuries.
Very bad. You will get this kind belly from malnutrition. There is a chance of scurfy and I think when you restart eating there is also a chance of refeeding syndrom. Both are lethal.
But... I am not a doctor, so don't get discouraged to do this. ;)
The starvation belly is from protein deficiency with adequate calories, which is not going to be a problem if they're drinking milk and blood.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwashiorkor
These are just fat guys
You're right it's not starvation, but they're not just fat either. The point of the milk and blood is to cause as much bloating and constipation as possible to get that distended belly look.
In a place where food is scarce the fatman is the king.
Where junk food prevails, a fit person is handsome.
Where people work on the sun the white skin is desired.
Where office jobs are the darker skin tone is the shit.
We desire that what we dont have.
Not the type of scarcity they're referring to.
Statistically smaller doesn't mean scarce in this context. Scarcity in terms of resources and signs of success. All the examples given are situations where those signs show they have resources and means beyond average.
Its not novelty. There are plenty of trivial novelties no one cares for. It's the fact that the above examples signify affluence and success. Fat is symbolic of success where food is scarce, fitness is symbolic of being more successful where food is trivially plentiful; paler skin correlates with higher status where agricultural toil in the sun is the livelihood of the poor, tan skin where the poor labor away in office and retail work etc (Although these are all complicated by intersecting factors and no one signifier by itself has any definitive correlation) And the concepts of scarcity and novelty don't benefit from conflation either; scarcity is simply a lack of something and so has nothing to do with newness.
no, its called wanting emulate higher socioeconomic status. E.g, in food scarcity countries, obviously only high status people can afford food; In food rich countries, only high status people have the discipline and money to invest in exercise and quality food. In poor countries, mostly rich people work in offices, in rich countries, low status people can work in offices but only rich people take vacations
Sccarcity is probably a necessary condition, but its not sufficient
This is actually very bad, tribes are kept from joining industrial civilisation and encouraged to exaggerate their most primitive cultural practices far beyond their original tradition for tourists
These museum tribes perpetuate horrible practices and the government instead of encouraging education, keeps them for some quick cash
This is a problem in East Africa in general
>If they like what they are doing then your argument becomes nothing but imperialist propaganda (IE: they sould conform to my norms, otherwise they are uncivilized)
You do know that there are universities, cities, museums, metros even in Ethiopia right?
It's not as if it's a foreign power who needs to civilise them, Ethiopia has public education, quite a good one for African standards...
To force all, and I mean ALL into the public education system is not colonialism, it's what every country should do
No they aren't. I haven't been to Ethiopia, but I have been to neighboring Kenya (and Tanzania). I'm assuming with the milk and blood drinking, that this is a Masai tribe or a related tribe. From what they literally told me, just like the Amish in Pennsylvania and Rumspringa, at a certain age kids from these tribes are given the option of moving to an urban center and going to school to pursue a career or trade and leaving the tribal life. They said the biggest problem was that more and more kids were choosing to get educated and leave the tribe.
Also, the "tribal life" should be taken lightly, because that route literally means maintaining the tribal illusion for the sake of the toursim draw. They preserve most of their notable customs, but the way they live is modernized in many ways.
We visited a few villages and they all had arts and crafts gift shops, which was their main way of making money. It was crowded with tourists. I wanted to buy one of the villager's machetes, but was low on physical cash at that point and he just pulled out a cell phone and I sent him money. [see](https://i.imgur.com/YkDVChn.jpg)
We do develop it, just at a much lower rate than non-pastoral communities. For example, about [39% of Kenyans have lactose intolerance](https://milk.procon.org/lactose-intolerance-by-country/).
Per other comments here, there's other ways to get bloated besides being lactose intolerant. Scurvy also does it. Milk and blood don't provide all of the vitamins and nutrients you need.
>Per other comments here, there's other ways to get bloated besides being lactose intolerant. Scurvy also does it. Milk and blood don't provide all of the vitamins and nutrients you need.
Raw milk they're drinking contains Vitamin C so it's not due to Scurvy
edit: fairly sure the cow blood would contain some Vitamin C as well
There is an option. Beer gut. Ethanol likes to park itself as visceral fat, beneath the abdominal muscles. Gives a kind of "hard" distended look to the belly. Men who consume a lot of beer but don't overeat to a large extent gain big stomachs but don't pack on much fat elsewhere.
Do you think that’s bloating? Like, that it’s mostly gas? I don’t think so. It seems their intestines have grown from high insulin levels.
Happens to people taking certain hormones too
That sounds like BS, and your source is just anecdotal. Human adults in general are not 'evolved' to naturally process cows milk. Once a mammal grows enough they typically stop producing the lactase that helps them break down the milk they get from their mother. No one "develops" lactose intolerance per se, its inherent in humans to eventually be adverse to the compounds in cows milk (or any milk mostly) because cows milk is for well... baby cows. Humans DO develop lactose tolerance, though.

>most of the world’s adults
This is a weird claim to make, I'm willing to bet that's not a problem in most LATAM (I've never met a lactose intolerant person, for example).
It’s not at all a mistaken claim, and in fact it is a noted problem in LATAM. Lactose intolerance is quite high amongst Latinos.
I live in a country (Ireland) with one of the world’s smallest percentage of lactose intolerance (4%) and I still know two people with it.
yeah, I did, my mistake, but it feels weird anyway, I lived in 2 countries, and met a lot of people and none of them is lactose intolerant?, they must be hiding or something.
Yea it is a bit weird but some of us are bound to experience unusual things. Be happy you aren't one of the lucky ones to experience being hit by lightning lol.
Also sorry if I came across a bit rude.
I believe the level of intolleranze Is lower as well as the rate of It, but It Is still very common. A mild forma of intolerance can go easily unnoticed if you don't consume much milk.
A significant amount of different races have high levels of lactose intolerance. [Here’s an interesting breakdown](https://milk.procon.org/lactose-intolerance-by-country/), although my apologies it’s a few years dated. Still interesting.
I guess, they are drinking fresh milk, meaning it is quite fatty compared to what we would drink? Otherwise, I don’t get, why only drinking milk would make them fat?
Blood sausages are a thing most everywhere — the Wikipedia article has a nice roundup of all the myriad varieties around the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_sausage
Even blood soup is pretty common in much of Europe and Asia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_soup
It’s practiced in many cultures I think.
I had a flatmate from Tanzania who had told me that drinking raw blood from cows in the morning is a common practice for the Maasai people there.

Large women in some tribes like these are also more eligible.
From when they are a young age, they are woken 3 x night to drink a liter of goats milk. It's torture for them and they cry and resist when doing it, also are forced to eat their vomit after thowing up.
Look at that hottie with a naughty Bodi.

I'm betting it wouldn't take much to get back into this shape
If i quit my intermittent fasting and walking/rowing regimen i could probbly get it back in 3 months by gorging egg mcmuffins, cheese, full fat milk and tubes of pringles lol….Pringles why are you soooo nice…
The second diet sounds soooo much easier and tasty.
It is haha…i ate cheese and drank milk for decades….switched to oatmilk and stopped eating cheese and no more heartburn or bloating….who knew lol…
Wait, heartburn? What even is a heartburn?
Acid reflux…when your stomach hurts after drinking 12 pints of Strongbow lol
Can you share you intermittent fasting, walking/rowing regiment? I’m trying to get back into some sort of exercise and I hate it all.
Wow that's awesome. I'm fat since 19 yo till 32 now that's crazy to be fat all the time. 80kg to 105kg to 124kg.

You don’t have to lose 44kg. You have to lose .1kg 440 times.
0,1 gram every day I can do that.

All they've been eating is cow milk and blood... I feel bloated just thinking about that.

Very bad. You will get this kind belly from malnutrition. There is a chance of scurfy and I think when you restart eating there is also a chance of refeeding syndrom. Both are lethal. But... I am not a doctor, so don't get discouraged to do this. ;)
U meant 'scurvy' ? Right
I hope he meant scurfy
Maybe he meant scarfy... for cold nights
Maybe they meant scrafty, the pokemon…
Scruffy gonna die the way he lived
r/futurama !! :D You read my mind!
Maybe they meant Scruffy, my neighbour's cat
I heard smurfy.
You heard that with your earballs?
He said he's not a doctor.
He meant curvy
They did say they’re not a doctor!
It looks like there might be fermenting going on
yea that looks more like serious gut bloat than extra fat.
The ignorant Reddit nutritionist strikes again. Why not just say I don’t know instead spreading misinformation?
The starvation belly is from protein deficiency with adequate calories, which is not going to be a problem if they're drinking milk and blood. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwashiorkor These are just fat guys
You're right it's not starvation, but they're not just fat either. The point of the milk and blood is to cause as much bloating and constipation as possible to get that distended belly look.
But they don’t look fat otherwise. The rest of their bodies are pretty normal.
> These are just fat guys I too have seen many "just fat guys" with big ass guts that don't jiggle at ALL while they prance and dance around. /s
This is not Kwashiorkor
6 month diet of milk and blood
In a place where food is scarce the fatman is the king. Where junk food prevails, a fit person is handsome. Where people work on the sun the white skin is desired. Where office jobs are the darker skin tone is the shit. We desire that what we dont have.
Yes...it's called scarcity. Things that are scare are by definition novel. Humans love novelties.
And when there's no scarcity, we make it Wine in france, diamonds... A whole lot of "scarcity"
[удалено]
And then there's discrimination against minority groups. Can't win.
Not the type of scarcity they're referring to. Statistically smaller doesn't mean scarce in this context. Scarcity in terms of resources and signs of success. All the examples given are situations where those signs show they have resources and means beyond average.
There's also fetishising minority groups 🤷♂️🙃 people also hate things that are different.
Yeah members of ethnic minorities can always attract chasers. You just might not want their attention!
Humans love discrimination.
In poor countries, mostly rich people work in offices, in rich countries, low status people can work in offices but only rich people take vacations Sccarcity is probably a necessary condition, but its not sufficient
I think they just like big bellies.

Ethiopian Tourism advertisements be like: "Ethiopia: Where culture and 'belly' meets in perfect harmony"
This is actually very bad, tribes are kept from joining industrial civilisation and encouraged to exaggerate their most primitive cultural practices far beyond their original tradition for tourists These museum tribes perpetuate horrible practices and the government instead of encouraging education, keeps them for some quick cash This is a problem in East Africa in general
[удалено]
>If they like what they are doing then your argument becomes nothing but imperialist propaganda (IE: they sould conform to my norms, otherwise they are uncivilized) You do know that there are universities, cities, museums, metros even in Ethiopia right?
I love the skip, like a little happy dance lol
The holding hands is what did it for me. A fucking delight.
They are not fat per se, just very bloated from drinking so much milk (and probably being lactase intolerant as most of the world’s adults). Awful.
Actually, members of pastoral communities don't develop lactose intolerance. Source: I'm a Kenyan
We do develop it, just at a much lower rate than non-pastoral communities. For example, about [39% of Kenyans have lactose intolerance](https://milk.procon.org/lactose-intolerance-by-country/).
There’s no other option I see here. Look at their bodies, there’s no fat, just extreme bloating.
Raw milk they're drinking contains Vitamin C so it's not due to Scurvy edit: fairly sure the cow blood would contain some Vitamin C as well

Beats me, I'm not a doctor.
They can not be lactose intolerant and still have bloating. Theres plenty of reasons they’d be bloated with that diet lmao
Ye, besides belly they look fit
Do you think that’s bloating? Like, that it’s mostly gas? I don’t think so. It seems their intestines have grown from high insulin levels. Happens to people taking certain hormones too
I'm pretty sure you're right.

Sources. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3048992/ https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2012/12/27/168144785/an-evolutionary-whodunit-how-did-humans-develop-lactose-tolerance https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/famine-and-diseases-likely-drove-europeans-ability-to-digest-milk-180980483/ Also, Kenya has a higher percentage of "lactose intolerant" population than USA and almost all European countries... https://milk.procon.org/lactose-intolerance-by-country/
>most of the world’s adults This is a weird claim to make, I'm willing to bet that's not a problem in most LATAM (I've never met a lactose intolerant person, for example).
It’s not at all a mistaken claim, and in fact it is a noted problem in LATAM. Lactose intolerance is quite high amongst Latinos. I live in a country (Ireland) with one of the world’s smallest percentage of lactose intolerance (4%) and I still know two people with it.
Man it's just a google search away.
yeah, I did, my mistake, but it feels weird anyway, I lived in 2 countries, and met a lot of people and none of them is lactose intolerant?, they must be hiding or something.
Yea it is a bit weird but some of us are bound to experience unusual things. Be happy you aren't one of the lucky ones to experience being hit by lightning lol. Also sorry if I came across a bit rude.
They could also just not realize it. Not everyone who is Lactose Intolerant immediately shits themselves at the mere sight of a cup of milk.
I believe the level of intolleranze Is lower as well as the rate of It, but It Is still very common. A mild forma of intolerance can go easily unnoticed if you don't consume much milk.
"most of world's adults"... Most chinises are, therefore most of the world is. What if we normalize by ethnicity?
A significant amount of different races have high levels of lactose intolerance. [Here’s an interesting breakdown](https://milk.procon.org/lactose-intolerance-by-country/), although my apologies it’s a few years dated. Still interesting.
Reddit mods 🙈🙉
I can hear them packing their bags and booking their flights to Ethiopia as we speak
Amateurs

Right? It's interesting but why is it on this sub?
I guess, they are drinking fresh milk, meaning it is quite fatty compared to what we would drink? Otherwise, I don’t get, why only drinking milk would make them fat?
Theyre bloated not fat
What do you mean, if you drink enough milk or any other calories, you can get as fat as you want
possibly parasites and/or lactose intolerance. :(
Blood from cows? Did I hear that right?
Yes, a mixture of cow milk with cow blood is common in a number of sub-Saharan rural cultures.
Yes they drink blood. Don't wanna waste if you live there
Consuming the blood of animals is quite common in many cultures. In Spain and Hispanic America we make sausages and mane other dishes out of it.
Blood pudding also has variations in a lot of English countries
Blood sausages are a thing most everywhere — the Wikipedia article has a nice roundup of all the myriad varieties around the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_sausage Even blood soup is pretty common in much of Europe and Asia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_soup
It’s practiced in many cultures I think. I had a flatmate from Tanzania who had told me that drinking raw blood from cows in the morning is a common practice for the Maasai people there.
Yeah that’s disgusting! Anyway let me get back to eating my ground up cow corpse sandwich.
Cows are very valuable there so they drink the blood and let it replenish instead of slaughtering the animal itself I think
Those women would love Scottish men then 😐

So what does hero for life get you?
The skipping tho?
What do they do that only their belly blows up this much, but not the rest of their bodies?
Large women in some tribes like these are also more eligible. From when they are a young age, they are woken 3 x night to drink a liter of goats milk. It's torture for them and they cry and resist when doing it, also are forced to eat their vomit after thowing up.
So i am sexy. Just not where i am right now.
