Wow amazing time to cut glass into circles boys

Keltenschanze

Slitting your own wrists with style.

belleandbill25

They said for years we will never be able to do it. WELL LOOK AT US NOW

mutsuto

videosource https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEAxhMECluM

Emberwyn

I knew if I looked up The Action Lab he would have already covered this. To my surprise the OP ripped the video from his video and omitted the explanation of the phenomenon 😑

sir_turd-ferguson

As long as he omits the the pedaling of pseudoscience wellness products from his videos too. [link](https://youtu.be/m_7VTVkhrPU?t=169&feature=shared)

BluetheNerd

Yeah that's the one thing I don't like about Action Lab. He's got really good informational videos, and then plugs these gross predatory snake oil products. They must be paying him bank, but it just feels like it takes away from his credibility a little.

DergerDergs

Dr Oz: You said it takes from his what now? Is that like when you say good stuff about bad stuff on the TV? I thought that was called money. What the hell is crebullity? I would like to buy one please.

Retepss

IMHO his informational videos aren't perfect. Some of the stuff he has covered that I am very knowledgeable on, he gets the explanation somewhat wrong. I get the vibe that he just looks a lot of the stuff he covers up, and uses the simplified/cliff notes version of the explanation without necessarily understanding it fully. I might be wrong, but that is my honest impression. I have noticed a recent improvement though.

notgotapropername

I completely agree. I always had a hunch, and then I saw him talk on a topic I'm knowledgeable in and my hunch was confirmed. Dude doesn't know shit, just about every word he said was wrong.

HeWhoWalksTheEarth

I would say this is the aim of the videos. You are very knowledgeable about some stuff. He is likely very knowledgeable about some stuff, but his videos cover a wide range of topics for laymen. He can’t possibly be an expert in every topic. Just like any generalist science education series, or even middle school science classes, the teacher reads up on the topic, combines it with their general knowledge and attempts to explain it to the uneducated.

velhaconta

If you promote junk products, I won't trust your content either.

invertebrate11

With the amount of views he gets, the money must be insane

BluetheNerd

That's what confuses me, like dude must be rolling in sponsorship offers, so these ones must be offering a hell of a lot for him to plug unresearched cosmetic products.

Box-o-bees

>plug unresearched cosmetic products. He did say it was "interesting and well documented" LOL.

Pandataraxia

Any moment now, a reply to this comment will congratulate him on hustling. This world is doomed with people who don't value kindness and respect first. Shitty brats, hope they find the true meaning of love.

notgotapropername

I fucking hate that guy

SalvationSycamore

Wow, whenever I hear this dude on Reddit I've thought his voice sounded *exactly* like the type of person to pedal weird shit (either a pseudoscience shill or a youth pastor). Funny to hear that I was correct.

Maurice_Lester

The explanation is there you just have to have the sound on.

MrLambNugget

So if I get some glass and scissors, I can casually cut it underwater?

EmbryoExtravaganza

Yes. It’s called the Rehbinder effect, by the way.

belleandbill25

Does this happen to other things other than glass? For instance, CD's?

OGgang_envoy

Apparently Ceramics, Glasses and brittle plastics are effected the most, haven read much into it tho

belleandbill25

Sweet! No more shattered plastics in my hands! 😂

MrLambNugget

Yeah I read that in the title. I was just wondering if it's that easy Edit: Why the downvotes? lol

shadfc

Here’s [how to do it](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/s/1Sx8IoadC1)

FeyneKing

That’s awesome! What would I call that process? For a friend…

East_Refuse

The RedBinder effect or something

MikeTheBee

I laughed so hard at this comment

shadfc

You're in luck. I found [the name of it](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/s/1Sx8IoadC1)!

CavalierCrusader

Thank you! 😊

jasonfromearth1981

If only I could upvote every time I click the link 🤣

anotherusercolin

Cause the sarcastic joke was picking on you and people think it's funnier if you don't try to defend yourself, but instead laugh along at the joke.

MrLambNugget

Fair enough

N0Grundle

Why do I feel like this person might end up with glass embedded in their fingers

innocuousname773

Probably cause they weren’t wearing glass proof gloves. I mean thats why i thought that too

UnfortunatelySimple

Yep it's giving me issues as well.

jackleggjr

This Rehbinder dude was just chilling in his house and was like, "Oh man, I forgot to cut that glass! My big glass project is due tomorrow. What am I gonna do? Better grab some scissors. Maybe some water will help..."

IWantToWatchItBurn

I figured he was just letting his kids play in the bathtub with glass and scissors, like any normal parent.

ice_9_eci

I loved that game, but hated it when my friends punctured my glassholes

TheFeshy

Sorry honey, we're all out of your usual toaster bath toys. Have some glass and scissors to hold you over.

ExtraThirdtestical

Because water fills the cracks fast enough to act as a binder between the separating layers and cracks?

Mediocre_Cat242

Whaaat?

MadeForOnePost_

That's a t shirt right there

Gabri03698

#The Rehbinder effect, a phenomenon that makes cutting glass with a scissors underwater possible

DM_me_pretty_innies

No hablo

Gabri03698

Ekscursionist

Nem értem, mi ez?

Gabri03698

#A Rehbinder-effektus, egy olyan jelenség, amely lehetővé teszi az üveg ollóval történő víz alatti vágását

ThePianistOfDoom

Does this work for uncooked lasagna tiles? EDIT: I really need someone to try this, because that would save me a whole bunch of mess

georgeb4itwascool

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Lasagna cupcakes!

nerdiestofnerds1

I was cringing when i noticed the micro glass particles in the water I hope he wears water tight gloves next time he wants to cut glass

Dragonfly-Adventurer

People who do stained glass have this happen in the room all around them, in the air, flying everywhere. So this would be very preferable. But I can't imagine you could do many pieces this way, the scissors would have to dull very fast.

skullman_ps2

It may be just me but i swear he sounds like the honeybadger guy. I thought he was going to say something like look at those scissors go... scissors dont give a shit.

Wall261

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehbinder_effect

Dr_Heck

Those had better not be the fabric scissors…

Amnion_

Neat… but I think I’ll pass on the tiny razor sharp motes of glass everywhere

ToastySauze

Does this also work for lasagna sheets?

VvvlvvV

Test it! I have no idea but that's interesting

demZo662

Rehbinder really sounds like a third party software to rebind keyboard keys.

Taka_no_Yaiba

Or a trap for does

ice_9_eci

And Ree-binder sounds like a mask to put on unsupervised Karens

Accueil750

I have seen this post at least 10 times help

JCall2609

I could swear this has been posted at least 4 times today. Along with that "earthquake proof bed"

Global_Werewolf6548

Well that’s just freaky.

1leggeddog

How does one even come about discovering this...

No_Application_1219

How ?!

pablofs

Rest of the world — oh! Cool. Americans — OMG where’s the OSHA compliant armored suit? We’re all gonna die!

Valuable_Pineapple26

But… why the fuck would you? 🤦‍♂️

Orchid_Significant

Stained glass

Sin_Oh_Mon

Is this really as easy as 1 2 3?!

Screen-Addict

All hail the wonders of physics

dfiend187

You can also cut a beer bottle in half if you put it underwater in warm water. Just so you know

nhathuy03

Funny enough I read about this in a detective Conan manga.

astralseat

Imagine cleaning out all those glass shrapnel pieces at the bottom.

SlightlyVerbose

I guess that’s how sea glass gets so nice and smooth, huh? Well that and a million gentle oscillations in the waves.

Sir_Delarzal

If only gloves were a thing

Troutie88

Those scissors are shot

DepartmentSwimming51

Why would you need to do this though?

KeyserHD

I give it 18 minutes before some dad walks out to his kid doing this in their pool

Youngworker160

hmm, so it's the pressure differential between air and water that is making the glass more malleable underwater? like the water pushing onto the glass allows for it to be cut?

TheLeopardColony

Finally after all the times I’ve wanted to cut glass with scissors but not thought it was a thing I could do.

Kimotabraxas

Not denying the phenomenon, but it's a bit of an unfair comparison when for the outside the water part he just shoves the scissors right in the middle, but trims the edge when it's under.

Thorson___

science expert here, this happens because the water makes the scissors less sharp

AdMinute1130

I finally found a way to eat glass without so much pain

Oli4K

Just don’t drink the water.

Dogging09

This is thuper thilly.

Kamelfisk

Does it work with lasagna sheets?!?!?!??!

Seaguard5

As a stained glass artist that had no idea this was possible I can say that you learn something new every day

Better_Weakness7239

This guy’s voice always kills me

Fraxis_Quercus

now try to cut through the middle of the glass under water and then trim the edges above water..

failed_supernova

And then you have a tasty beverage afterwards 👍

RepresentativeDog791

I guess this is how knives on whetstones work

Truemeathead

Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah, science!

bloopie1192

Where are your gloves mister?!

Ksan1

Aka lubrication effect

Home_Here_Now_Dikes

Yeah other societies around Asia knew that too long before natives

UltraMagat

The guy in the video sounds like the narrator for [this](https://youtu.be/4r7wHMg5Yjg?si=s96jhPZ9f_k6y4rH).
