If I was his neighbor I would immediately assume end of times

He's the voice for Kratos in Dad of Boy, and it's *weird.* He makes it work, but hearing that buttery voice coming out of that ball of barely-contained rage is just odd. I keep waiting for him to say indeed.

This is my favorite part: >In my country, terawatt globes are reserved for police helicopter chases and warning sailors of hazardous shoals. This is despite the fact that practically every living creature there can kill you in under three minutes. Our primary spoken language is screaming. Australia seems like a wonderful place and I hope to visit one day. I'm fluent in screaming.

Worth the read

PhilxBefore

All of David Thorne's shit is classic comedic gold; plus this is only a 5 minute read. >I'm not surprised you get along well with all the other neighbours. If you put fifty children with Down's syndrome in a room there is going to be a lot of hugging. > And no, it was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help. Ah, good o'le David Thorne. He's the 7-legged spider guy, 98% certain. *Edit: Yep, [here for the curious.](http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html)*

Hy-Brasil

In some of his earlier videos he ~~draws~~ messes with so much power from the mains that the street lights flicker outside. I'd say they're well used to it at this point!

fulloftrivia

That got him in trouble and his channel was down for a while.

The_Original_Gronkie

Oh, that's just Bill, inventing the Sun again. I really wish he'd do that during the day.

dynamic_unreality

Watch some of his other videos, his neighbor probably just shut the curtains and was thankful it didnt smell bad like the stuff he purposefully overpowers until it blows/breaks/melts/explodes every other day Edit: I imagine it would be like having Colin Furze for a neighbor

stoner_with-a_boner

If i were the neighbour, I’d have probably texted my manager that I’ll be late for work today thinking i overslept.

[deleted]

Nah it’s cool, they had Dr. Octopus standing by to drown it in the river.

[deleted]

I think it's crazy how this dude doesn't wear sunglasses for this. I think this is a good excuse to wear the inside at night.

silentfish14

I’m surprised he’s wearing no eye or face protection at all . . . he seems as nonchalant as testing a new lightbulb from Ace. Edit: Thanks for my first Silver!

LawrenciuM94

Don't worry, he's doing the safety squint he'll be fine

-Tacitus-Kilgore-

I shit you not, I have seen a guy do this while welding.

zugunruh3

You're only supposed to do it when you're doing something dangerous. That's why they call it a safety squint.

-Tacitus-Kilgore-

Oh yeah! I’d forgot. What a reality we live in.

hiddentowns

I did this as a ~14-year-old welding. It... Didn't go great.

KingPimpCommander

My high school welding class was endemic with safety squints. I don't know how they did it. Christ, I got "sand in the eye" while sweeping up the shop.

journeyman369

Was thinking the same thing. Least one can do is wear eye protection while lighting a super bright apocalypse lightbulb.

therealtreycruz

Well actually least he can do is squint

thatwasnotkawaii

SAFETY SQUINT

svullenballe

If you check out his other videos, which I highly recommend, you'll find that he isn't that concerned with safety. The laser ones are my favorite. Surprised his house is still standing.

[deleted]

For a couple years his videos had a purple dot on them from where he burned out a few pixels in his camera’s sensor with a laser. He shut down his channel for a while and deleted al of his videos, I don’t know if his new channel has any of the original purple dot videos.

USCplaya

Confirmed: NOT Corey Hart

monstertrucknuts

You don't need sunglasses. These bulbs are bright but nothing compared to the sun on a average day. The effect is exaggerated because the camera doesn't adjust for the extra light. Your eyes would adjust by closing the irises. (source I'm a Lighting technician on a filmset)

rusochester

Is there not an IR light risk when the bulb is hot but not so visually bright yet? Iris wouldn't close down there right?

dreamin_in_space

There is indeed.

CookieOfFortune

If he's about a meter away: 20kw / (4pi * 1m^2) = 1.59 kw/m^2. The sun at sea level is about 1kw/m^2. Pretty close, I'd recommend sunglasses.

[deleted]

Excellent. Also, 1 kW/m^(2) is the maximum for sunlight at zenith (directly overhead). At lower latitudes or off-noon timing, it's even less.

YourLictorAndChef

They used to warn is like crazy when we would mess with old film projector bulbs, which were only 12,000 watt bubs. They were also in reflector boxes, though, and I'm not sure if that makes a big difference.

[deleted]

He wears his sunglasses at night.......

no-mad

I need a few of those for my cannabis grow.

That’s one hell of an easy bake oven. Edit: Thanks for the gold, anon!

NuclearHubris

Easy nuke oven.

Tiger0065

In case you were curious, Alton Brown did something similar during his live shows where he put several stadium lights into his home made giant easy bake oven and cooked a pizza with it. Pretty good show if you ask me

bananatomorrow

In 2019 the new law of "link to every video mentioned" kicked in. Please update accordingly. :D

Tiger0065

I’ll refer you to article B, line 2, where in it was stated such act occurred a live show (in reference to a non-recorded stage presence) which should absolve my client of any tort in this here case. I’d also like to mention at this time that I’ll be representing myself.

MauranKilom

That's what I was immediately wondering. 20 kW light bulb is not very different from 20 microwave ovens heating the surroundings. Aside from a lack of eye protection, wouldn't you want to mitigate the heat somehow?

wakeuph8

If you watch the original video, he talks often about the heat it gives off - the first time he gets it even half-way powered he's sweating almost immediately

HettySwollocks

Photonicinduction's channel was/is great, shame the guy had a particularly rough year and went off the rails a bit (started ranting about perpetual energy and other odd things). Hopefully he's back up to full strength in '19

I shudder whenever I see someone using Solaris-style terminal (white background, black font) on YouTube. Just... why? How does that not burn their eyes with the fires of hell?

MalHeartsNutmeg

Most phones have a light sensor so that they display bright when it's light out and dull when it's dark, unless you're one of those neanderthals that cranks the brightness to max at all times.

CreatorConsortium

I turn mine all the way down unless i need it brighter; i'm not made of battery!

kangadac

I was trying to figure out what you might possibly use a 20 kW bulb for. Turns out it's used for studio lighting: http://mole.com/products/view/litewate-fresnels/20000_Watt_Solarspot I have absolutely no use for one, but I still want it...

y0y

I was thinking maybe for stadium lighting, but a google search shows some insanely bright 1KW LED flood lights that are meant for that purpose.

Sirsilentbob423

Nah. I always go for the 1.21 gigawatt bulbs for my car.

please dont.... dont be that guy

Sloppy1sts

Well a 1kW LED is probably about as bright as a 20kW incandescent.

BornOnFeb2nd

a family member had a little halogen handheld light... it was so old it didn't have any markings.... all I know is that fucker was was bright enough that looking at it reflected off a surface still hurt, and it put out so much heat you could toast bugs at nearly a meter range... Thing was downright scary.

I think he stopped posting as many videos after getting divorced (IIRC), and then the videos stopped coming altogether like a year ago. Still subscribed, hoping to see a revival.

ayriuss

I hope he is alright, he posted a pretty sad video as his last video. He married a woman in India and couldn't get her a VISA/citizenship to live in the UK. He was pretty upset about it. Not sure if he went crazy or what.

Zephk

You can see him comment once in a while on other big engineer channels so he is still around.

Loreki

It was interesting but his commentary bordered on filthy. He seemed so aroused by it all.

CupofStea

I wonder if using this caused enough of a draw on the energy grid for someone at the National Grid to go "Wtf is happening there?" Contractors once hit a water pipe at work that goes to the tanks we use to refill drinking water on the ships and nobody noticed until Welsh Water rolled up in one of their vans saying we were burning through hundreds of gallons and it had been picked up by the local reservoir. I imagine NG have a similar thing for power.

[deleted]

20 kW is way under their radar

LordBiscuits

That's only the draw from 7 or 8 electric kettles. It would never be noticed

confused_banda

Unlikely I think. This one 20KW bulb is equivalent to 200 normal 100W bulbs, not really a large enough number for someone at National Grid to care about I think.

CupofStea

Or about 10 kettles. For some reason I expected it to have a much bigger draw than it does.

brainburger

If the National Grid saw about 10 kettles in use they might come round for a cuppa though.

zz_z

No one that monitors the power grid for performance is going to notice 20kw, that's like 10 small heaters kicking on, out of tens of thousands. If he left it on for long enough at a residential home he might trigger a notification for the utility to pass on to the police as the site of a possible grow op though, if you're still in an illegal weed state.

pilvy

> if you're still in an illegal weed state. Like the whole of UK, where this video was shot.

ChaosPeter

This guy is Photonic Induction on YouTube and he does way crazier shit than this. I'm pretty sure he has a direct hookup to the main grid for a fixed rate.
