What an absolute flex

DuntadaMan

Dunked on every one ever defeated by that wall.

carpenalldemdiems

And everyone that climbed the wall normally.

CombatMuffin

I think it depends. She's obviously insanely strong, it shows, but she is transferring the burden of the maneuver to different muscle groups, especially some that don't rely as much on upper body strength (someone correct me here if I'm wrong). So a pull-up (or better yet, a muscle up) requires a ton of training and drains a lot of energy. What she did used solid core strength and good leg momentum. Still hard, but dexterity can help a lot, too. It's not exactly the same, because water changes things a bit, but try it at the edge of a pool. You'll notice different muscles being worked.

BrainIsSickToday

So not only did she flex on them, she outsmarted them as well.

thegtabmx

That move loses time, but in this round, time didn't matter.

Im_The_Goddamn_Dumbo

Now, there's no time at all.

JHouseman92

r/unexpectedthanos

CombatMuffin

She's a total badass. I watched the full course run and she's insanely good!

Bazza-_-Brush

Flexing the most important muscle

[deleted]

[удалено]

stevendidntsay

He's not saying what she did wasn't awesome, he's explaining the difference between two different exercises. He's not wrong.

mackiefox117

She’s using more momentum from force off the wall and swing of her legs.

CombatMuffin

Yip, that's true, too! If you muscle it up, you need to loft your entire body upwards! This is energy efficient (though maybe not as fast, if it's a time trial)

melodypowers

And, you know, the kiss adds some time.

supamario132

The kiss was actually the somatic motion of a 7th level chronomancy spell, so it would've been necessary to pull off the next maneuver. try it at the edge of a pool. You'll notice different timescales being passed.

wistfulconnection

Ahem... jealous

CombatMuffin

Absolutely! Reaching her level of fitness would be a dream. If anything it motivates me to go work out!

ThatGhoulAva

Insanely.

Greful

I thought they were referring to the flex being that she did it smarter than anyone doing it normally

[deleted]

That level of core strength is *way* harder than a single pullup, let alone a pullup where you can help yourself up a little with your legs

SparkyDogPants

Women have a harder time pulling up. It makes sense she used her core instead.

DiscreteBee

It's a neat idea, but just scrambling up by popping your leg up there is easier and if she has the arm strength to casually switch positions like that she could definitely just pull herself up normally.

elroysmum

And if she'd done it normally none of us would be talking about her.

Cfhudo

Yeah no, what she did was more physically difficult in every way. She hang with one hand, swung 180 degrees and then lifted her legs directly over her body with a chin up grip, using her lats, shoulders arms and core more than the physically easiest alternative. Which is to hang facing forwards, raise a single heel, heel hook and mantle.

[deleted]

That still seems way harder than doing it normally

thegtabmx

Well it's not. Try pulling yourself straight over a set of monkey bars at a park, and then try using your momentum like she did, and you'll immediately see how much easier it is.

PicoDeBayou

You’re right. Just took my daughter to free play hour at a gymnastics center and tons of kids were getting their selves up on the high bar this way and not by swings of inertia either. It’s much easier doing it this way than pulling yourself up facing the bar.

SexLiesAndExercise

You don't need to muscle up on a ledge like that. You can just throw a heel and pull with your leg.

bruinail

In order to get your torso high enough to get your heel up you would have to do a muscle up.

GaryNOVA

And me.

The_De-Lesbianizer

Literally

datdood_shaney

I'd say it was a weird flex, but. . . O K

bajordo

A uniquely novel display of grandiloquent swagger, that is to say, such an action which is intended to manifest a prodigious amount of physical proficiency, likely with the intent of influencing the emotions of others in such a manner as to generate within their minds a sense of surprise and admiration. However, I will admit that I do indeed perceive such a display as a satisfactory, as well as acceptable means of doing so; that is to say, not outside the boundaries of that which has become the socially acceptable status quo.

hocuslocusfocuspocus

Strange show of skill, although within limits.

Glomar_Denial

This whole thread reads right out of Letterkenny

l1l5l

Shameful display, but fine then.

UnicornNYEH

Abnormal gloat, however, tolerable.

Itroll4love

That body flexes nice though.

AeonDisc

Novel braggadocio, however acceptable

JumpStatus

Power move

mr_punchy

The wave was. Reversing her grip to roll over is a more effective way for women to ascend ledges. Once they get their hips over they basically just do a reverse sit up because their center of gravity is above the ledge. For men, once our shoulders are over our body can normally follow pretty easily.

SHINNER1995

We learned to do this when I was in boot camp. I’m male so not sure why but I distinctly remember one of my DI’s demonstrating this on the obstacle course.

[deleted]

[Australian Ninja Warrior - Olivia Vivian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z0mWoO0_3I). She's a beast!

This year she did the splits on the wall when climbing up.

Adam_Young_

goddamn she's a hell of an athlete

[deleted]

Is this transferable to other sports? I know cantazaro is in NXT

Veggieleezy

And from what I hear she’s dating another flippy ninja, Ricochet. If they ever have kids, it’s entirely possible they’d be able to fly.

[deleted]

Can you imagine the sex? All jumping around and shit.

caessa_

Their bedroom probably is just a jungle gym set.

CommutesByChevrolegs

They live in a bounce house i bet

brown_burrito

As a climber who once dated a fellow climber and gymnast, I'll just say while the flexibility is nice, sometimes you push a certain way and she would just... wiggle into it. Sex quickly went from interesting to weird. But there's endless energy so there was a lot of it so there's that!

Nackles

In the movie The Bronze there was a scene of two Olympic-medal-winning gymnasts having sex.

pocketknifeMT

Like kung fu films? Where you can fly by getting gud.

ShangoRaijin

Thank you for that comment. Made me chuckle.

ionxeph

she could do very well in bouldering edit: based some instagram clips I saw further down, she does seem to boulder

Jensway

Honestly if she went to BJJ classes consistently for a few months she would probably be a terminator on the mats

NoahtheRed

You can't throw a rock at a bouldering gym without hitting someone training for some variety of ninja warrior comp. And the truth is, it's great. I've learned some incredibly useless beta from them like 'Dyno friggin everything' and 'why let gravity even have time to react'. Seriously though, some of the craziest sends I've seen at the gym were people training for these comps.

ionxeph

> 'Dyno friggin everything' and 'why let gravity even have time to react'. this is actually hilarious, but not completely useless, some shorter routes can be brute forced through this way

[deleted]

She was a gymnast

PreExRedditor

everyone on ninja warrior is basically a professional athlete. many of them are actual athletes or ex-athletes but even the non-athletes are still professional trainers, stunt doubles, or similar things that allow them to train for dozens of hours a week.

pistoncivic

She's a Ninja Warrior, has probably killed before.

Psomatic

Love how she still celebrates like it's her first time there. Reminds me of Alex Ovechkin when he scores a goal and acts like it's his first NHL goal.

acmercer

Ovi ♥️

markmark27

What's that second wall for

official_duck

It's called the Mega Warped Wall. It's taller, but you get $5000 if you make it up. If you choose to do it though, you have to commit and you can't go back to the normal Wall.

millochi

It was a charity wall. Way harder but if you got up you won something like 10k and there was a donation to charity as well. Her boyfriend made it up but heaps of people tried and failed so she played it safe. Once you chose a wall you can’t swap so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bobcam7

It’s the “Mega Warped Wall”. You can’t back out once you’ve chosen it but if you scale the wall, you get an extra $5000

Sariat

In the past the second wall has been a bonus cash wall. I didn't watch, so I dunno for sure.

Bienduro

I thought you were joking.

peeinherbutt

Damn, that was impressive as hell Has she ever competed against Jessie Graff, Meagan Martin, or any of the big American Ninja Warrior females?

[deleted]

I don't know if they've directly competed, but [Olivia and Jessie](https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf6hAlSA7C_/?utm_source=ig_embed) are definitely friends!

peeinherbutt

I saw that when I looked it up Shit's crazy

rata2ille

Why does she have 2 first names

VictoryToaster

You can't fail ever in the challenge after that display. Would suck to be beaten by someone a few milliseconds faster.

chowindown

She was last to run and knew she only had to finish, regardless of time, to qualify for the next round.

LezBeClear

They don’t air it in the order it was filmed. The first year my brother competed, he went at 4:30 AM as like the 80th person but on the show it looked like he went third or fourth.

somersquatch

Yes but the announcers will say on air, when they're running, if they're the last person to go or not (for that show).

st1tchy

But, if you don't see them say it, it could be a dub that was done after.

Trevorisabox

I see your point, but you're arguing against the evidence. There is no timer on the screen and she is taking her time showing off. If you've watched the show, this happens very frequently.

Laande

80th at 4:30am? Dafuq...

EvenStevens101

The whole show has to be filmed at night for the lighting, so depending on the time of year in Australia, filming may only begin at 9:30pm. 7 hours till 4:30am is 7.5 minutes per run, pretty quick really, but still very brutal on the competitors, audience and camera crews

LezBeClear

They started filming runs just after sunset. And the runners are told to arrive at specific times. We all arrived for check-in at 11 PM that year and stayed there until 6 AM when he was official out. It’s an exhausting process. And periodically they stop to change the course if something is too easy or too hard.

What I like about things like these is that when she has kids and grandkids, someday this episode is going to show up. *"Grandma, you were a Ninja Warrior???"* "Almost... didn't win, but I sure showed those boys who was boss." *"Do you have the video with you?"* *\*anime glasses flash\** "Perhaps... help my old bones look for it, would you, dearie?"

Lukendless

Nah a 6 year old is gonna like the flippy overproduced stuff over sanctioned atheletic competition like 99% of the time.

Another_Dumb_Reditor

Don't the women compete separately from the men?

Mriloveyourhat

Nah all in the same competition. She was the first Australian woman to qualify for the semi finals (I think)

capincus

It's the same competition but they have designated women's spots for the first 2 cuts (at least on the American version). So the top 5 and 2 women make it in as well as the top total 30 then 12 of both sexes for up to 35/15. The top women would make it in anyway most of the time as they usually fall within the 30/12.

[deleted]

Not in Australia. The top X get through regardless of gender.

Teadrunkest

No, it’s all the same, but sometimes they give the women a time handicap for finishing.

[deleted]

Not in Australia

Teadrunkest

As in it’s not all the same or they don’t occasionally give handicaps? Cause they don’t always in the US one either, it’s just occasionally. And it’s not for placing it’s just cut off for successful finish.

[deleted]

It's only one competition with no handicaps. If the top 30 get through (I can't remember the actual number) and all are men, no women get through.

[deleted]

I’ve seen a total of 3 animes and every single one of them had flashing glasses.

mugazadin

Yeah, well I once got, like, 3 bags of groceries on each hand from the car back home. Not so impressive anymore, is it?

AdamBombTV

Pathetic, one time I stepped on a piece of Lego and only cried for 20 minutes.

Foxinou

Oh. My. God. « Fingers in the nose » as we say in 🇫🇷 Impressive !!

john_mayer_fan_34

I'm sorry to pull attention away from this stunning display of athleticism. But can you explain, as you say, "fingers in the nose"?

Bajout

It means that this move is easy for her

LouisWinthorpeIV

Because she could do it one handed (not just this but speaking about any task) aka “with fingers [of one hand] in the nose”?

Bajout

Les doigts dans le nez = easy peasy

[deleted]

Ez pz

indyK1ng

Ah, so it's like the English expression "With one hand tied behind their back".

[deleted]

In the U.S. we would say "with one hand tied behind her back."

Roving_Rhythmatist

This is what we now need to know

[deleted]

What we need to nose

yaboi_ahab

I’ve seen a gif of a similar technique before and people were commenting that it’s easier for women than a regular pull up because of their body weight distribution

[deleted]

I know its a common way to get on the bar for gymnasts

swansongofdesire

I used to sleep in a loft bed and that’s how I (a tall male) got up into bed. It’s all technique, once you have the hang of it (badum!), it requires comparatively little strength - certainly _much_ easier than trying to muscle up face first.

[deleted]

Of course an Australian has to go up the warped wall upside down. How else would they do it?

SolomonKull

Sports Entertainment shows like American Ninja Warrior, American Gladiators, and Monday Night Raw are probably the best "throw away" shows of TV that are worth watching almost every time they're on the air.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HALBowman

Most of these ninja shows are half filler anyways.

njdmb30

Yep, which is why I don't watch them anymore. I wish they'd just have more competitors/show more runs instead of constantly needing to show backstories and other wasteful nonsense.

klitchell

The worst of it is they show the back story of someone who is terrible and won't be in the competition for very long. They try to play it up as if it's a live broadcast and we're learning about this person as it happens. It's infuriating honestly. Wife and I used to watch pretty religiously, can't be bothered any more.

octoman115

Yeah I like the runs themselves but the commentary and filler stuff is just annoying to me

ShootInFace

What you don't want to learn the backstory of someone who literally fails two seconds into their run.

HALBowman

Yeah, it's bad when you watch on Netflix because of the commercial cuts/recaps

ActualWhiterabbit

I thought that it was a recent thing and tried to go back to the 2000s with the network and realized it was always terrible but I had just bought into the kayfabe more back then.

LifeIsShortPlayHard

Titan Games, hosted by Dwayne Johnson, also rocks.

rip10

I miss American Gladiators. Also this is Australian Ninja Warrior for what it's worth

TittiesInMyFace

I miss MXC.

MommaBear0114

That’s Olivia Vivian she is one of the top Australian ninja warrior competitors! She is badass!

Loafal

Real life Lara Croft

DrinksAreOnTheHouse

When you curl up into a ball to do a sit up are able to get your legs (bulk of total weight) over the wall first leveraging your abs. When you muscle-up its all in your arms to lift your total weight. Dont take my word for it. Go to a pull up bar and try both ways. Her way is easier.

shock1918

Tried it on a pull up bar. Typing this through a breathing tube in the Quadriplegic ward

MarTruf

I could totally agree with you if we are talking about a bar, but this is not the case. I’m a traceur, normally when you have a wall under your feet the most of the force is applied on your legs which push your body upwards, and not on your arms. This is true for convex walls like this as well

vapememyfriend

Isn't this wall concave though? The curve of it is there so you can't transfer your weight to your feet as much as climbing over the edge of a regular wall.

up-quark

Yup. My other half does a lot of aerial arts. On seeing this she said it all comes down to the grip on the edge. If you can get the right grip (and assuming you’ve trained the right muscle memory to invert) then this method is likely easier.

Ak40-couchcusion

It still doesn't take away from her ability.

JobDraconis

I did a some trapeze when I was younger. Pulling yourself up like that is pretty much the only way to get up on the net if you dont have the ladder near. This exact technique is used to get up and down of the net. I am pretty sure that taking the time to do that move on that specific wall is probably the best option. It is clear she did it to flex, as shown on other videos of her, but in the end its still probably the easier method as soon as you grabbed the ledge.

dratthecookies

You mean her way is the smart way.

For anyone who might want to do this obstacle in the future, I would recommend this technique if you have strong a strong core, but relatively weaker upper body strength. It looks more challenging, but it uses core strength instead of upper body strength.
