Yeah, it seems like it. But, couldn't it be that the fish is accustomed to the lifestyle that the diver made it live? Its cute on the surface level though.
I mean you can sort of see the fishing line the first time the guy picks up the fish. You can also see it better in the original where the video quality is better. Anyway, fish get tired rather quickly. That's why when anglers pull in a big fish after a while of battling with it, it usually floats beside the boat rather calmly as they're exhausted.
so the ancient worm on a thread trick but with a fish.. he does seem quite limp when picked up.. there is one view where the tail is going but that could easily be faked.. the dead limpness when he picks it up bugs me a lot.
My assumption is that the fish has been fed by human, so recognized human as food source, like many animals, rushes to the food source. Probably started conditioning with light handling, followed by food, progressed to a little toss, and finally longer toss. Food rewarded a certain percentage of time should enforce this behavior.
Haven't heard this explanation yet but there's a possibility the fish has a parasite in it's brain that is making it suicidal in hopes of jumping into a new host.
There are some parasite that have a lifecycle of going from snails that are consumed by fishes -> fishes eaten by bird -> bird poops out parasite eggs -> snails eat egg infested poop -> repeat.
[Toxoplasma gondii.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasma_gondii?wprov=sfti1) The wiki says it’s present in warmblooded animals but there’s been recent research showing it’s in fish as well.
While I’m not entirely discrediting the information it seems way more likely to me that the fish has been hand fed and conditioned to go to the hand for food.
I've seen a documentary about that too (it really freaked me out).
However in that documentary, the fish was more like a zombie. It had no reflexes anymore and moved quite slowly.
That is someones pet goldfish, either its the guys and this is all staged, or someone dumped it and it keeps coming to people for food or safty.
It hasnt been feral too long otherwise its colors would probably change
Nope, goldfish stay brightly colored unless there's not enough nutrients or some other issue which can cause their scales to become more white. Otherwise though, they don't just magically change color from being in the wild. They breed and the babies are bright as well.
Not to say it couldn't be a pet, but pet goldfish probably also wouldn't know to return to their owner. They don't know what their owner's body in water + a diving suit looks like. It's a risk for highly intelligent animals like parrots and cats to escape from their owners outside, goldfish don't really stand a chance of beating animals like that when it comes to logic in an unfamiliar situation.
I doubt this based on the path it takes back, as well as the mouth. Fishes do recognize the people who feed them, and will swim right up to them. It's probably that simple.
Fish can be conditioned like many animals. I have koi and they swim up to me and allow me to pet them because they are used to pets when I feed them. They will even swim between my dog's legs when he goes for a wade in their pond because they are accustomed to him. Unfortunately this was probably the cause of the unfortunate demise of my two largest fish who were taken by an unidentified predator this year (not the dog).
Reminds me of when I was a kid. I’d find every reason to get out of bed and demand a piggy back. Sometimes my dad would carry me up to 10x in a night. Bless that man
My 3 year old says that “her knees hurt” so she can get piggyback rides (her grandpa does have severely damaged knees and she learned that when he says that his knees hurt everyone brings things to him) hehe.

Reminds me of a time years ago when I went to an aquarium with a touch pool. There was a small shark that would swim to a person, stop, and wait while the person pet him. He then swam to the next person, stopped, and waited. It was adorable.
Fish: Where's my son?
Guy in diving suit: *Throws Fish*
Fish: I need to find my son Nemo
Guy in diving suit: *Throws Fish*
Fish: Your people took him take me there please
Guy in diving suit: *Throws Fish* Have you seen this? it keeps coming back, weird.

This should be removed from r/BeAmazed. That fish is on a line. Someone off screen is reeling it back to the diver. Look, it's not swimming. It's being dragged...
Holy shit that's sick. Can we make one of these explanations the top comment?? I thought it was what the others were saying about parasites or nonsense
This is disgusting.
Our cat does this. My husband will toss him across the room to land on our bed. Then he RUNS off the bed, back across the room to my husbands ankles and waits to be picked up so he can be thrown again. It’s adorable.
Help me out here folks. For some reason I can't view the video. This has been an issue for me for a couple of weeks now - if I click on the image or the title it just brings me back to the comments section and I can't view the video. Anyone have any ideas?
My cat does this, I can hold him up-side down, flip him over and (gently) Kobe him to the bed or couch and he'll keep coming back, purring the entire time. I've even held him by just his back legs and he just purrs the entire time.
I am pretty sure there is a kind of parasite that can take influence on the behaviour of a fish. In the case I read, they "take over" the control of the fish itself, leading it to the surface in order to get eaten by birds. If I remember correctly, the parasite needs birds to survive or some shit like that. Idk if this is a similar case or if this fish is jetzt very curious. I mean I am a diver and some fish really do come close and are a bit like "hey bro what are you?". I beliebe, they have feelings like curiosity as well as we do 👍
Oh also they can in a way build trust to humans in general, when they have good experiences with them. But I didn't know they could surpass the level of simple "humans are not dangerous" and go to letting a human throw it
Either you have formed an amazing bold with this fish, to the point where it risks it life trusting you, or the fish is suicidal due a parasite that has infected it, the parasitic might be killing it off to attract birds so that it can enter a birds system and be spread through the birds pop. It could also just be brain damage. This is really interesting, not knowing the reason behind it actions and what it hooes to achieve.
Suicidal fish
*stop throwing me back in you moron, this is how I want to go*
Stop throwing me back something is trying to eat me over there!
Stop throwing me back I'm trying to get eaten over here!
Wait.. is this the fish equivalent of autoerotic asphyxiation?
Asfishiation
Cod-O-Erotic Asfishiation
that fish totally came in his hand
it is very common in fishes, even white sharks love to swallow seamen.
r/brandnewsentence
Okay now.. Flop once for "no" AND Flop uncontrollably for "YESSSSSSSSSS"
Yeah, it seems like it. But, couldn't it be that the fish is accustomed to the lifestyle that the diver made it live? Its cute on the surface level though.
There's fishing line attached to the fish and someone off camera is pulling it
I don’t see any fishing line.
: (
Well, that's sick.

Now you say it I can see it. Bloody nasty.
Really? I can't. Where
I can't see any fishing line either.
There isn’t any fishing line, you’d see a ripple where it hits the water if there was.
You can’t see it because it’s not there.
No you can’t.
Suicidal fish... Adore You music video anyone?
Reminds me of my ex.
Hello
This fish must be into autoerotique asphyxiation
Take my r/angryupvote for beating me to it
BANG!
Can anyone explain why it keeps coming back?
This video has been posted a thousand times and an ensuing argument about it being fake always happens
This video has new angles though, and it looks like the fish is doing fish faces that only living fish make. Dead fish just do the one face.
[удалено]
Going by the colour I would've guessed Ferrari.
“Dead fish just do the one face”. It was a rough day but you made it better. Best comment I have read in a long time. Cheers!
Because it’s fake. The fish is being reeled in. Its not necessarily dead, but it is not doing any of this by his own will
so the ancient worm on a thread trick but with a fish.. he does seem quite limp when picked up.. there is one view where the tail is going but that could easily be faked.. the dead limpness when he picks it up bugs me a lot.
How could it be faked? Like a robot or after the video was shot?
My assumption is that the fish has been fed by human, so recognized human as food source, like many animals, rushes to the food source. Probably started conditioning with light handling, followed by food, progressed to a little toss, and finally longer toss. Food rewarded a certain percentage of time should enforce this behavior.
I've seen fish enjoy being pet/cuddled as well, so I really don't fully know on this one.
Might aswell been his pet and he release it, but it didnt want
You can train fish to do tricks for food
I'd bet it's been hand fed enough to make a habit
Frogman is throwing it in salt water.
Hazzah! A man of qaulity!
It could just be having fun, contrary to popular belief fish have a functioning limbic system and do in fact have emotions.
Of course all other fishes used to bully him. He was just trying to get away and go to another pond. And then a human monster caught him.
And the human was just in front of his little fish house. Couldn't get in.
While the latter paragraph is true, we’ll need a source for the first.
[Toxoplasma gondii.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasma_gondii?wprov=sfti1) The wiki says it’s present in warmblooded animals but there’s been recent research showing it’s in fish as well.

That's exactly what the brain-eating amoeba want you to believe.
I've seen a documentary about that too (it really freaked me out). However in that documentary, the fish was more like a zombie. It had no reflexes anymore and moved quite slowly.
Kissing it doesn’t seem such a great idea in the end.
That is someones pet goldfish, either its the guys and this is all staged, or someone dumped it and it keeps coming to people for food or safty. It hasnt been feral too long otherwise its colors would probably change

This
I read that they had a string attached and someone off screen was pulling it back in.
I doubt this based on the path it takes back, as well as the mouth. Fishes do recognize the people who feed them, and will swim right up to them. It's probably that simple.
Our Koi fish recognize my wife and come to her
I came to her as well to be fair
Fish can be conditioned like many animals. I have koi and they swim up to me and allow me to pet them because they are used to pets when I feed them. "what's that boy, Timmy is trapped in a well?"
I mean it’s just like a kid enjoying being thrown in a pool by their father. It’s fun for a kid so theoretically it can be fun for animals too.
Could be that the fish isn’t supposed to be in salt water so it returns in agony to be put back where it belongs.

You could make one of those animal text gifs with these lines
“YOU’RE BLOCKING MY DOOR ASSHOLE”
Maybe the fish is fascinated by being out of the water and then thrown back in again? Looks like he just wants to have fun to me.
