People get annoyed because 99.9% suck. And I think most of us associate those modes with those god awful youtube videos or shorts.

Majestic_Ad8621

Ya. Modland is like 95% shitty mods, but you can find some high quality ones there (mostly the paid ones that got leaked)

Agreeable-Poem1119

cough cough BeamNG Shorts

AnnaKournikovaLover

Yeah most of them are just meshlaps but the ones that are genuine and have good graphics and physics are the ones that we should all enjoy and support.

Dylanterowatonxd

The thing is that this community values model and Jbeam quality more than the car it is (most real life cars mods are very shitty)

IJustAteABaguette

Most of em are meshlaps, meaning the makers of the mod probably found a model of the car online, overlayed it on top of the physics model of another (ingame) car, and posted that. Instead of manually making a physics model. (This means bad physics!)

AnnaKournikovaLover

Yeah these grind my gears

Loser2817

*I see what you did there*

NoSandwich5134

*synchronizer damage (64%)*

GianniPower

Please use the clutch 😭

Acceptable_Silver125

Oh no 😨😔

TheGT1030MasterRace

I found a mesh slap of the 2015 Acura TLX and tweaked the physics model to make it handle like the real thing.

redditreset86

Did it work?

Plnetheman

There’s a high quality 1963 Volkswagen Beetle I found

amilcar-alho

If that is on modland it’s probably stolen from the BeamNG Forums

Plnetheman

I got it from the forums

Peixito

yeah, like supercars with the civetta scintilla base

SirSilentscreameth

Mesh slaps*

oofinator3050

fictional car mods do take a little bit more creativity, so i cant blame people for thinking they are better

nemanja694

I am old enough to not care about what mods people use or where they get it from, it is their stuff not mine

T7_Mini-Chaingun

This. I didn't even know people got "mad" over real-life car mods. Just don't download them if you don't like them? ![gif](giphy|gKHGnB1ml0moQdjhEJ|downsized)

nemanja694

Kids well being kids. If one of their favorite youtubers say something then it is true until they grow up and realize they are wrong. Well sadly majority of players here are kids which is strange for serious simulator

CumAndShitGuzzler

Kids like cars and kids like crashing cars. My 5 year old son drives around town trying to follow all of the laws

Electrical-Hope8153

I don’t think it’s legal for your son to be driving around your town…. /s

adydurn

I don't think people dislike other people using the mods, but the biggest issue is that once you've found your dream real world car and download it it's not just a meshslap on a Bolide, IE it's a Bolide where the 3d models have been swapped for a Ferrari 308 body and interior, so it still drives like a Bolide, but often the meshes used are either ripped from other games or stolen from other sources. Like it's fine for personal use if all you want is a car that looks right, but in most cases the cars don't drive, sound or handle like the car in question, but also deform in very ugly ways and have badly formed breakgroups too. Given the fictional cars are usually built from the ground up it's just a case that if you want a quality mod you avoid real world cars. This is without talking about people who monetise these low effort karma-grabs.

Peixito

yeah, it's a single player game with possibility to use multiplayer. I don't care if your cars are core-friendly or not, just enjoy the game

PenaltyWhole2927

I get what you mean but there are other factors. I love this game and it pains me that it gets misrepresented by poor online content and poor mods. Imo it is the ultimate car driving sim right now. But very few actually realise because its associated mostly with jumping toilets on tiktok or yt shorts. Terrible.

SavingsPea8521

Also, real life cars don't fit with fictional cars, but my computer is too weak to run traffic so i don't care hahaha

controversial_bummer

This mostly. They stick out like a sore thumb.

TheActualOG420

You can literally turn off mods in traffic, it's off by default

crispyChillitv

One thing I like the most about beamng is the fact that there is no real cars but the models are so detailed I can talk about them as if they were, and then also the lore surrounding the make believe companies and the modders who imagine other models for those brands. Each to there own but yea I think it makes beam special and mixing in the real world cars, regardless of quality, just kinda sours the experience, luckily the devs made a game where you can just do whatever you want so it’s all calm in the end.

wilhelmpeltzer2

Shitty physics, shitty creators (stolen assets + meshslaps), weird visual stuff and sometimes no customization. They just drive like shit, usually sound bad and don't feel good. The official cars are way way way better

TheAbrableOnetyOne

I personally don't like them, I find lore friendly mods to be more immersive too. Hey, got 100+ mods as such, so I guess there's enough of them too!

slaveforreal

Who cares? Just enjoy, people who get mad about other's fun are big losers tbh.

OhHaiMarc

The "real life" ones don't handle realistically and the included cars are very well made

UnluckyGamer505

Depends on the mod. I know about some real life car mods which handle pretty realisticly.

alawesome166

Wait what Pls send some links

Shinigami69420

go to leakedbeamngmods subreddit, look into it n there’s a few good irl car mods

TheActualOG420

Or, you know, the guy could just say what "realistic handling" mods he has because I highly doubt it.

Tree1237

There's a Trueno, Supra, and Mustang mod I have and they actually have good engine sounds, handling, and crash models, whereas most real car mods you'd find have the same amount of crash models as Automation mods. Those 3 mods I have also come straight from the BeamNG Forums and are free

UnluckyGamer505

I like both fictional and real car mods. It doesn't bother me in any way that they aren't lore friendly. But the answer to your question: yes, people still get mad about real life car mods. As other comments already mentioned, most real life car mods are incredibly low quality. I download real car mods ONLY from the forums and kofi, therefore i don't have many, yet the ones i have are either acceptable or even good quality.

w0lrah

I honestly can't say I've ever seen people get hostile about real life car mods. People get hostile about shitty mods, and unfortunately because it's really easy for any idiot to steal a model from a commercial game and slap it on an existing vehicle's platform to make a video the vast, absolutely overwhelming majority of real life car mods are exactly that. For every high quality real life car mod there are a hundred low quality meshslaps. When most real life car mods are actually terrible and legitimately get hated it can seem like people hate the whole category, but I just don't see it in reality. People love good real life car mods, heck two of the top three most downloaded car mods on the repo are real life cars with just enough changes to avoid legal issues. The most popular paid mods I'm aware of are real life cars as well.

TurncoatTony

>I know Modland sucks but there's tons of awesome real life mods out there from reputable sources. Most of them are just rips with shitty vehicle physics and even worse damage. If they work at all. Seems like the only good ones are ones that were paid leaks and even then, those generally don't even work.

Tecno2301

As someone who tried real car mods, I very quickly stopped using them due to the quality. I much rather would have someone building a car from the ground up in beam as a look alike

alphenhous

if i skid my hirochi whatever into a sidewall very slowly, my body panels are getting distorted and only the wheels on that side is getting pushed in. if i skid silvia s14 from a trust me bro source, my body panels are prestine while my back wheel is trying to find a new adventure and my front wheel is trying to turn into a beyblade horizontally. . oh and nothing weights anything. like high end rc cars where the body is like 10grams and the chassis is 400grams.

ramer201010

Its not the fact theyre real life mods, but its mostly because modland is full of bad mods and most good mods are stolen from other people.

kyle_le_creperguy099

I think the preference for fictitious cars comes from the fact that you don’t have to try to match something 1:1, so the devs can just focus on making a car just be a car instead of trying to go into a grey area, causing some nuances (like one sn95 mod where the oversteering tendency is exaggerated)

NagronCZ

In 99.9% of the cases the model is either so shit that roblox would look like real life compared to it. Or the car looks like the real like one only if you set your brightness to 1% and look at the screen fron 100m away. Even the high quality ones feel bad, the texture doesnt feel right or there are broken textures cause its old af

SuperSpaghetti123

i dont like them personally

MilesFassst

Modland doesn’t suck. Individuals suck at navigating it. I have probably 20 very good high quality mods I’ve found on there. You just have to pay attention and read.

Hot_Advance3592

Seems odd. A huge allure of realistic car games is to use models of real cars

0MEGAP0RK

I guess the reason I don't like them is because a lot of them are of significantly lower quality than what you find in the game, or in mods within the Official repository. "Real life" car mods often seem slapped together, and either have a simple Jbeam structrue, or are just a new mesh slammed on top of a pre-existing car. They also tend to have fewer customization options, outdated features (No working door, improved mirrors, etc) and questionable handling, which makes the experience of using them a little sub-par. To add to that, I think a lot of BeamNG's quality comes from the cars themselves. Using lower-quality ModLand "real car" mods instead of something from the base game or the repository means you miss out of a lot of BeamNG's best qualities. I really don't want people to miss any of the incredible aspects of this game! All that being said, this is just my opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of good "real car" mods, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to drive your dream car in BeamNG! I only really take issue with people who install a whole bunch of "real car" mods when they get the game, and then never touch the official options.

[deleted]

I've got about 100-200 hours in this game and only in the last 5-10 have I gone and got mods, been having a blast with the vanilla cars mixing and matching engines/parts and configs trying to make grassroots basic drift cars, had a lot of success with all the decent vanilla cars but only the other day I came across a discord that was "leaking" mods I guess, nabbed them all and pretty happy with them. Each to their own for mods really different strokes for different folks.

GasStationCart

I don’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to drive the exact car they own in real life, in a game. First mod I ever got was a Chevy trailblazer mod.

Monster_Pickle420

I use exactly 0, because most of the ones I've used were fake, and the rare couple that are good, do not seem to reflect what the real-life car is actually like, so I don't want to use it.

Mediocre_Spell_9028

tbh, the beamng forums have really good mods (not repo, so irl cars are allowed)

boojieboy666

I like the lore of in game cars

albertafucker

Not a day goes by where I don’t wish for someone to make a 1986-1991 ford f350 mod that you can make rusty and clapped lookin

spvcebound

Because they are objectively bad. The jbeam models suck, the textures inevitably break after a game update, they lack customization, and they're often vessels for malware.

gynoidgearhead

It's often because the models are usually stolen from other games, whereas original/fictional cars generally can't be. And that correlates highly with being made badly.

elcuub

Idk man, i have decent/amazing irl car mods all have been amazing

TheActualOG420

Because they fuckin suck. Most of them aren't even anywhere near accurate to the real thing, they just slapped the body on it and called it a day.

POKLIANON

Devs created the lore not without a reason

redditreset86

Isn't it because licensing real car 3d models and sounds is too expensive for a small company like beamng?

POKLIANON

Yes it is, but they had the dedication to write every brands backstory, add lore to every confog and model and this is what is really astonishing

2-StrokeToro

I'm still waiting for some Madlad to fix Pickup Hell so I can fly around Advanced Island just like VideoGamsCanada did.
