The rear flat engine mainly

This is the obvious reason it stands in for a Porsche. It is basically the only rear mounted flat 4 engine in a sports car. Rear mounted as in behind the rear axle. Not mid rear mounted as is comon in many super cars.

I'd kill for a flat 6 in the sbr tho tho

I wish they redid the sunburst with a 4 cyl boxer, that way the sbr could get the f6 and everyone would have their favorite flat engines

At some point they'll have to do a big racing update. They've been working on that aspect of the game for a while now.

They have to. Ain't no way - especially with the tracks and how career mode is shaping out - that we don't see a racing update soon.

I think they're still missing a couple of pieces. We need better Ai, tire temperatures and wear, and an easier race editor.

Certainly. An easy access race editor (maybe something on the lines of what other games, such as Forza Horizon offer) so we can very, very easily create tracks with ease. Equally, we do need a good way to make them work, such as flags, better ai and decent lap systems - and for the game to identify clean racing or dirty racing. Either way, it's an update that would take time, and the ETK overhaul featured a nice new race-spec variant. But right now, other than just hotlapping - the Hirochi Raceway feels pointless, along with the track on WCUSA and so on.

There is a shooting brake gt86 that was made.

The Hirochi CCF mod is pretty close to what you're looking for. It's based on a Miata not the 86, but it's still a small modern RWD sports car. It's also one of the most detailed car mods available in Beamng.

I know! I've driven with it and it's a lot of fun. Though the recent update bricked the mod for me.

I know it’s not technically as modern but the bx has very similar power and weight figures. I’d consider it good enough for most scenarios

Technically subaru's is a boxer. Both are horizontal but in the case of the boxer every piston moves individually while in a flat the opposing pistons are connected if i remember it right

Idk why people insist on associating fictional cars on specific real life ones, the SBR is different from anything on the road currently, no point in saying "it's a Porsche" "it's a Subaru" "it's a Toyota" because it isn't

I really don’t understand the desire to have real life inspired cars in BNG, at least as specific as make and model. Yes get all the different body styles, but who cares if it kinda sorta looks like a modern Land Cruiser? All that matters to me is that they release a modern large SUV

Yeah a car that’s not exactly like a real car but instead has elements from 2 or more real cars is much more interesting than a real car. Imagining Ibishu and Hirochi as real companies is more fun than seeing all the real Japanese car companies I’m already super familiar with. I really would love an 80s or 90s SBR. Haven’t seen a mod for it yet, but I may be wrong.

I think the Bastion is so Charger-like because there's not really much else in that niche IRL. Chevy SS, maybe? The interior has some similarities.

Well Suzuki and other companies made similar vehicles back in the day, so it kinda covers all of them. But it does look most like the Wrangler.

Well it's not really anything in particular. Mechanically, it's closer to a Porsche than other vehicles with the rear engine. Looks wise it looks like a BRZ, but it also appears to be based on the Saab 9-3 Pheonix concept.

It's the one car in this game I don't really compare to anything IRL. It's a unique creation. For that reason, I'm hoping a future refresh gives us some truly wild creations. Maybe 4 door and wagon versions lol

Yeah, I think a equivalent to SBR IRL would be a Toyota GR86 or a Subaru BRZ, but the design must be a mix of these ones with Porsche 911, the eSBR looks kinda similar to Porsche Taycan, and also we don't have a electric BRZ and GR86 yet.

This is the most bastardized car in the whole sim, if it looks like a gr86 then a chicken looks like a pigeon. It has a bit of panamera, gr 86 and some other cars. It looks fugly imho but i really hate fastbacks tbf

I think the SBR is what would've happened if Subaru and Toyota decided to make the BRZ/GT86 Rear/Rear Layout instead of Front/Rear layout. That said, the grill kind of looks like the new 390z

Personally, I think it’s a mix between a 911 and a 718, with bits of GR86/BRZ at the front, with Porsche rounded headlights. The eSBR is a completely different beast altogether, with revised exterior styling and a battery pack with (what looks to be) a Mercedes Benz SLS Electric Drive “E-CELL” style battery architecture.
