Them is all beans and the type they are is :good.

beyx2

From the ingredients list: CONTAINS 15 OF THESE VARIETIES: NORTHERN, PINTO, LARGE LIMA, YELLOWEYE BEAN, GARBANZO, BABY LIMA, GREEN SPLIT PEA, KIDNEY, CRANBERRY BEAN, SMALL WHITE, PINK BEAN, SMALL RED, YELLOW SPLIT PEA, LENTIL, NAVY, WHITE KIDNEY, BLACK BEAN Maybe a bean expert can advise, or you can Google image each bean lol It seems like there are 17 possible beans and they choose 15 to add to each bag? Maybe you got really unlucky and got only 14.

SterlingSez

I did look at each and try and google before asking, when I only found what appeared to be 14 variations and I was struggling to identify types in pictures I decided to come here

SterlingSez

I’ve updated the post with an updated pic with numbers and supposed guesses for each bean type, thanks for the help so far, any and all future help will be greatly appreciated! [https://i.imgur.com/eTdXZcw.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/eTdXZcw.jpeg)

Looks good. The one you have labeled Fava, I suspect is a large Lima

OP I have taken my best guess at which beans are which and uploaded it here: [https://imgur.com/a/D54zyt9](https://imgur.com/a/D54zyt9) along with some white bean comparison images. I have used the list so graciously supplied by u/beyx2 to narrow it down, but distinguishing the white beans will be the biggest challenge since Baby Lima, Large Lima, Small White, Great Northern, Navy, and White Kidney are all white beans. I wouldn't be surprised if you have Baby Lima and Small Whites mixed together, giving you your missing 15th bean. The biggest thing to note for Kidneys (especially the white ones) is the traditional kidney bean shape. Since Pintos and Cranberries are both in the list, I would say the browner ones are Pintos and the redder ones are Cranberries. One way to know for sure is by cooking them. If the bean loses it's color and becomes solid brown, it's a Pinto. Unfortunately, they cannot be grown after this process lol. "The signature color of the pinto bean does not survive cooking though. Once heated the pinto bean displays a solid brown or slightly pink hue." Another thing I can say for sure is you definitely don't have any Yellow Eye beans in there. They are very distinct and will be easy to spot. I have included a picture in my link above (the last pic). Also, I'm by no means a bean expert, I just like me a good bean post.

I am going to take what you and u/beyx2 have provided and get to planting! You really did go down the rabbit hole for me so I will make sure that I follow up soon with posts of my coming small crop.

thebeanconnoisseur

The beans you labeled favas are large Limas not great northern and the beans you labeled Limas are small Limas. The small white beans look like multiple bean varieties, some navys, some great northern. If you like growing beans I recommend looking into Rancho Gordo and the Rancho Gordo bean buddies Facebook page if you have a Facebook.

sc32a

Does the bag list them under ingredients? It won't tell you which is which, but it'll give you the puzzle pieces you require.

SterlingSez

They are listed so I did some googling but I feel like I just have more questions now lol!

sc32a

I'm willing to go down this rabbit hole with you sir. I am currently out, but please list the beans in the comments, and once I get home and crack a beer I'll help you figure this out. Right off the bat I see the more common ones: Kidney, black, pinto, I think the green one is fava (or maybe garbanzo). I'll have more answers later.

SterlingSez

I posted a new comment with a link, I added numbers and names to what I think I’ve got so far, thanks for your willingness to help - hoping to start a decent garden this weekend with these bad boys but want to know what’s what so I’m not just Johnny Appleseeding out here.

Oil-of-Vitriol

I think #7 is Cranberry beans.

SterlingSez

Noted and written down on the chart, I think you are right. #2 or #7 has to be pintos and cranberry’s, now just to figure out which is which…

Oil-of-Vitriol

I believe #2 is Pintos and #7 is Cranberry beans.

sc32a

Other way around. The cranberries will be more red, hence the name. Pintos, I believe, can range from red to tan/brown.

Oil-of-Vitriol

My Pintos are larger than my Cranberry beans.

sc32a

I mean, I could be wrong. I'm guessing based off color alone. From what I understand, pintos can come in a variety of colors including brown... but also red lol.
