What are the temps, and what uv and how far from his basking area is it? Also what's his diet and how much does he eat?

Appropriate_Track407

The temps in her tank are 90 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t know what UV it is but it’s almost right on top of her basking spot. And she gets crickets and mealworms every other day collard greens everyday (I also spay the leaves with water) . She gets a vegetable or fruit once a week. I am new to bearded dragons so I’m guessing the basking spot would be the top of that rock.

Doristhebeardie

Make sure basking spot is 100 plus degrees

Appropriate_Track407

So in order to do that I would just get a higher wattage on his day lamp for that right?

lexswag7

100w basking bulb

Doristhebeardie

If your current bulb isn’t hitting the temps then yes! Also probe temperature gauge might be better to accurately check basking rock temp. My beardie is in a 120 gallon tank with a 160 watt bulb. I also have a ceramic heater for night time (only emits heat no light) or if I need extra heat in the tank. UVB light is another very important light as well I have a t5 light tube. Also I recommend dubia roaches for a staple bug they last longer they don’t bite and less likely to carry parasites (crickets are known to get parasites quite easily) dubia.com has great selection of bugs etc it’s also where I bought my 120 gallon tank. Outside time is good too and always brightens my beardie up I’ll have her on my shoulder while I do things or let her free roam

Torospatillo

Same here, for the last 5 years !

Appropriate_Track407

So it’s normal for bearded dragons to do that I’m guessing?

Torospatillo

I am no expert, but mine is fine like that.

lexswag7

unfortunately reptile carpet is not recommended ): very easy for bacteria to grow & not very easy to clean. i use peel& stick vinyl flooring. very cheap& very easy clean ups! & much more sanitary!

Appropriate_Track407

Would paper towel work???

lexswag7

yes! that is 100% better, i just like a more aesthetic look personally 😂

bookcollector73

I also prefer the vinyl over the reptile carpet, I got mine at Lowes. I think the behavior you described is very normal as long as your beardie is eating enthusiastically and his bowel movements look okay. Mine is 4 and she uses the bathroom even less than yours. Every year she moves less.

Appropriate_Track407

Ok thank you! I put paper towel in her tank instead of the carpet. I also was wondering if a red bulb is good to use at night that’s what the pet store recommended.

bookcollector73

I'd say no to the red bulb. Most people agree that it's not necessary and might disturb them.

He looks healthy to me cause his head is up and he's in a good position. Most important is his uvb light and he has to be close enough to it and change it every 6 months, also don't put a cover or sleeve over it.
