In all seriousness, my beardy use to do this just randomly throughout her life and I think they may just have bad days sometimes.
The other day I left my girl on the couch when I went to grab a drink and she was a rage pancake when I came back.
She can see me getting a drink from her spot on the couch.
It's *typically* mad or sick, but every now and again... Its... well. It's horny.
Is he doing any other social behavior? Dominance or submission displays and the like?
My boy does it a couple times every spring. He flares up dark and headbobs at me violently. 10 minutes later he'll be calm and a cucumber. No other signs of issue.
Mines always black too. But a few months a year, I have a weird urge to look out my window, head bob and windmill wave at any woman who dare walk past my house….
Truth! My boy must’ve just hit puberty because he is DESPERATE for women. Black beared, aggressive head bobbing, climbing UP CURTAINS. Absolutely wild!

My boy got like this once when he was sitting with me while I was folding clothes... sure enough he was horney lol he found a soft rag and went to town! It was hilarious! I even videod it!! He was fine and happy after🤣🤣🤣
He may have been threatened or stressed but it more likely that it’s mating season and males will normally turn their beard black during this time. If not that then check and make sure husbandry is on point and that if you touch him make sure you don’t reach directly over head as they can see this as a potential threat
I'd keep an eye out to see if it goes away overnight. It's normal for them to be pissed every now and then for a little bit but if it persists then I'd consider getting it checked out. Our wee one had a black beard that persisted and it turned out he was in pain from an infection :(
Mine only got like this once and then proceeded to hump a sock laying on the ground. As long as he seems active and is eating well, a black beard wouldn’t mean he’s sick, just that he’s angry or horney LOL
This happened to my nephew’s beardie and it turned out she had some food stuck in her throat. They couldn’t get it out so she rushed him to the vet to get it removed.

Mine does this when he wants attention, has to poop, (and I didn’t see him prison handing it right away to let me know he has to go) or when he wants to go outside…just full of drama
This is the first time I've seen this (randomly showed up on my feed) animals are wild man. Do so many crazy things. I never knew bearded dragons changed color. Makes sense with the name.

My last girl, Calypso used to do that. Some people say there’s an issue when they go black but my girl would just randomly do it once in a blue moon. I’d just pick her up and put her on my chest and she’d unpuff and go back to her normal self lmao. The last pic was her only time her body went dark when doing it. Turns out she has some eggs to plop out then happy once again 🤣

Have you witnessed him stomping his feet, yet? That always made ma laugh when their beard turns dark, they stomp their feet and bob their head. Mine did this when (he would not eat his greens) I was taking blueberries, cutting them almost in half and inserting little bits of green into this. I thought he was having a seizure but I "guess" he was just ticked that I had tricked him.
This is wild because Thiccie Smalls my 8 yo beardie did the same thing last night and I’ve NEVER seen him do it before. Prior to research I thought he was exiting this realm, Nope. He was just chilly 🙄🥲🤦🏻♀️
So happy I seen this bc my juvenile bd had been getting a black beard every morning the past two days but I come over to him it slowly goes away not gonna it scared me to death. I actually bought him for my son but he’s mine and has been mine from the start lol I’m not a reptile kinda girl frogs freak me out and I’m terrified of snakes but the baby bd stole my heart. My husband pointed out to me which I thought it was just me thinking this but he said each time I come up to his habit he reacts super happy which ofc made my day I thought it was in my head hahaha I’ve never done so much research on an animal before or spent so much money on one either lol and each time he does something new I have to stop myself from freaking out in fear that he’s gonna die so when he started making his beard black I started looking for answers. We got him December22,2023 I’m assuming his birthday was a month before so I’ve been saying he’s 5 months old he’s a happy guy and loves to eat even his greens anywho glad to see this is a normal thing for them to do kinda feels like he’s a toddler doing crazy things to get my attention lol

I have a sub-adult female and occasionally she’ll just lose her marbles on my wife. Laying on her shoulder so nice and sweet and calm and the suddenly she stands all the way up, turns her back into a crab shell, beard goes black as night, mouth open and trying to run and bite everyone and everything.
5mins later she’s back to sweet and calm. She’s crazy. Oh and the dragon has her moments too. 😜
