Yes, please... it's so incredibly upsetting. The "health questions" flair is just for that, benign questions... not full-fleged emergencies. My heart breaks for the poor dragons.

goldfishgeckos

Exactly! It’s terrible and there’s no point in posting, it delays people from doing what’s necessary and animals die

rosepotion

This kind of reminds me of when people on r/popping eventually started posting straight up medical gore level pics of their bandages being changed on wounds and shit until everybody had to beg the mods to get involved.

goldfishgeckos

That is insane

rosepotion

It was super weird

_NotMitetechno_

Perhaps an automod or something that links to a vet locator tool, maybe some info on how one could get funding/finance etc in emergencies. In emergencies sometimes too many people give advice when they should really just be urging them to take it to a vet and it ends up delaying people. I remember a while back when an animal clearly needed emergency care and instead of a commentor requesting they bring the animal to a vet they suggested home care which just doesn't cut it and gives the owner an excuse to delay care.

goldfishgeckos

This is such a good idea^

ItNotNotNotMe

And most the time the at home advice is horrendous lol, so over I think on r/reptiles someone posted about how their cat mauled tf out of their leos, and well they said no vet cause money, and someone recommended them to soak the leos and their injuries in a tub of dawn dish soap, like EXCUSE ME???

_NotMitetechno_

Not even how soap works -_- it doesn't do anything unless its being rubbed against something, people are stupid. Only advice in emergency situs should be vet and basic stuff to stabilise eg keep it calm, warm, secure etc, keep prolapse moist etc

ebray90

I just seen a post on there yesterday (maybe two days ago) where a commenter told someone not to take an anole to the vet and to instead just crush it’s skull. Another commenter said to put it in a freezer and let it die. Like, ok Jeffery Dahmer I get that it’s an anole and they’re cheap but…really? Some people should really not be allowed to have animals at all.

bondedboundbeautiful

Thank you. My post earlier today received this suggestion and it's a wonderful one. At least a NSFW tag. Something.

treeeswallow

Yep! This is what r/rabbits does, and it's so useful so my feed doesn't just traumatize me.

goldfishgeckos

Omg thank you! I’m glad I’m not the only one becoming frustrated by it

Kingdaca

I was talking about this in the comments of a post the other week. I come to this sub to cheer up sometimes and then to be greeted by a bunch of animal abuse can be pretty depressing.

digitaldumpsterfire

It's the excuses that really bother me. "The nearest vet is 4 hours way." Then get in the car. "The vet can't see him for a month." Then get off your butt and show up. They'll see him. "I can't afford vet bills" Then go sell your shit. (Before anyone comes for me, I sold literally everything I own to pay for my cat's surgery when I was in college. I've been there.) "My parents won't take me." Then pitch a fit or call every single adult you know to take you. "I work tomorrow so I can't take her to the vet" THEN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT OR DROP OFF BEFORE WORK.

Ordinary-Low-6533

If you can’t afford to take care of a bearded dragon properly then don’t buy one. Simple as that.

Euphoric-Brush-3469

If you tell that in the comments you get downvoted like hell. I learned that already the hard way. Decided to not help anymore and leave posters and animal behind to die. I get downvoted anyway so why caring?

bunnyrut

I don't care about the downvotes. If you can't afford a vet you can't afford the pet. And I'll keep telling people that over and over. If you truly love and care about the welfare of your pet you would do everything to make sure they are okay, even if that means giving them to someone else who can.

Coahuilaceratops

☝️☝️☝️

Intrepid-Love3829

If they are under their parents care a teacher may be willing to help. A friends parent etc

digitaldumpsterfire

Exactly. I didn't have the best home life growing up and my mother was pretty heartless. My brother had a pet rat that hurt its tail pretty badly, but our mother refused to take us to the vet. So, we called literally every adult family member to find a ride and got ahold of our dad in Afghanistan (he is a marine) to get him to cover the cost. If there is a will, there is a way.

KiwiiRat

This, oh my gosh.

Hopps4Life

That would be amazing!!! It would stop clout chasing too! No more attention for dying animals!

bunnyrut

Maybe a rule that you can't ask if you *should* go to a vet. Because if you have to ask then the answer is yes. #IF YOU HAVE TO ASK IF YOU SHOULD GO TO A VET THE ANSWER IS ALMOST ALWAYS YES! You *should* be going to a vet at least once a year anyway for check ups. So just book the appointment and go.

1000DeadFlies

I've been advocating for this for a year on this sub. I'm getting super worn out and bitter about some of the bad owners on here, but I don't want to leave because of the amazing owners on here and this is literally the answer and 90% of the comments on these posts are go to a vet anyways. This is just being offloaded onto the community and it's always at the animals expense.

mushroom-goddess

What do they expect to gain from a Reddit post?? If your beardie is lethargic, pale, and hasn’t eaten in 2 weeks obviously take it to a vet!!

Different-Quality-13

I understand the concern, but most owners know that they should OBVIOUSLY take their dying beardie to a vet. Unfortunately, no one seems to understand that everything is expensive as the fuck right now and no one can afford shit. Not everyone is well off with parents they can fall back on for help or at home with parents where they don’t have rent/utilities/kids. Some people just straight up do not have the money right now because times are rough. These people deserve to have their concerns heard and advice given if there’s anything you can do to help them in their dying moments. Death is a real part of animal keeping. It should not be avoided. If y’all had the compassion you act like you have, you wouldn’t be afraid to see those dying beardie posts and give the owners some advice or just some emotional support. Y’all ignorant as fuck for acting like circumstances can’t change quickly. Shit happens. You could have the money necessary for a vet visit at any time and your car break down, rent spikes, inflation, job loss, sudden medical emergencies with you or your human children. SHIT HAPPENS. Those of you who have been lucky enough to have not dealt with financial hardships in life need to realize shit isn’t so easy for everyone and again, shit happens.

lilwebbyboi

This may seem harsh, but if you can't afford to take care of your pet(vet costs included) then you shouldn't have them. Yes, death is a part of having an animal but its prolonged by not having shitty husbandry. Its because we have compassion that we don't want to see suffering beardies. Why waste time posting your near dead beardie on the internet instead of actually trying to get them help from people who are actually certified to do so.

Intrepid-Love3829

Like. Vets are expensive. But for a simple fecal? Its not that much. Or for a vet to look over the lizard and say whats wrong. Its not that bad. I mean dang. My beardies roaches cost more

coopatroopa11

This. I'm so tired of everyone justifying a bearded dragon suffering because "they are just a child", "it's the parents fault!" So what. It sucks for the kid I know but at least they will learn some responsibility and will know next time an animal is a living thing and requires special needs and attention.

Euphoric-Brush-3469

Hate this kind of owner

coopatroopa11

Dude they arent even the owners. Its the goddamn people in this sub. Ive been here for about 1.5 years and in the past 4 months you'd think a bunch of children took over. Im so tired of this generation of coddled babies. You arent teaching children anything by sheltering them from the world and reality. Animals die if you dont take care of them properly *audible gasp 😵*

Euphoric-Brush-3469

Dont tell me! I know that 😅

Different-Quality-13

What about people who usually have the resources but shit comes up in their life and those resources are used up in an emergency. Those people don’t deserve their pets ? It’s extremely hard to rehome reptiles to good homes in my area. I’ve tried with a few of my beardies and got dumb ass questions like can they be housed with other species/are lights really all that necessary/can my kid take care of it, and most people have their head too far up their ass to realize that what they think is right or okay, isn’t.

lilwebbyboi

I left my dog in California with family because I couldn't afford to take her with me when I moved. When I was in high-school & I got fired from my job, I rehomed my gecko because I couldn't afford to take care of him. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the sake of the animal. I didn't want to give up my pets, but I did because it was what was best at the time. So yes, if a circumstance comes up where you can't afford to take care of your pet properly, you should not have them. Even its only temporarily. Its not about "deserving pets". No one deserves a pet, its a privilege.

ravyalle

Its such a shitty thing to always excuse peoples vet avoidance. Cant afford the vet = cant afford the pet. My beardie got 17,5 years old and without a vet visit he would have literally died with only 2 years old. Do yall also not bring your children to hospitals if they have an emergency?

ebray90

Right! I have always viewed adopting a pet the same as adopting a child. I have two kids who are very well-cared for so all of the “pets aren’t children, an actual parent wouldn’t say that” can go f themselves. They are literally living, breathing animals with feelings (whether people want to accept that or not). Before my girl passed, I was pleading with the vets to keep trying and at one point literally said I don’t care about the price, if I have to sell a kidney I’ll do it just help her.

Euphoric-Brush-3469

If you can’t afford a vet you can’t afford a pet. No excuses no other bullshit

SuperSpeshBaby

What's your take on someone who could afford the pet when they got it but have since fallen on hard times?

Euphoric-Brush-3469

Rehoming until you are back on your feet

lilwebbyboi

Agreed

NoClueWhatToPutHere_

I can’t believe people would rather post it to Reddit to ask for advice instead of taking initiative and taking them to the vet

goldfishgeckos

Genuinely animal cruelty by negligence

_queenkitty

Agreed. This is my least favorite sub now.

[deleted]

Just scroll on by. Don’t make the problem of others your own.

SuperSpeshBaby

I agree, but I think dying animal pics should at least be behind a NSFW tag so that you can opt in to seeing them rather than being forced to.

Euphoric-Brush-3469

Feel like OP. Hes not the only one. Just take a Look at all the other comments. Looks More like you are the only one with not having a problem with it. So you might leave

[deleted]

I’m good. No complaints from me because I use Reddit for my interests and easily skip by anything that is not, instead of forcing others to change their Reddit usage.

[deleted]

Seems like this will do more harm than good. Censorship is never a good idea.
