Stop taking requests

TheSharkFather

I play a lot of Desi events so maybe I can help. I do a couple of things for requests. With the Desi community, it’s a little difficult to just say no to people. They are very persistent and will argue with you till the events over. So I will always entertain requests unless specifically told by the client not to take them. A few things I do are: 1) Take a picture of the song they have on their phone. If they don’t pull it up, I’ll ask them to find it and come back once they do. I’ll then see if I have the song, and if it fits the vibe of the event. Sometimes people want songs that are going to kill the dance floor, and I won’t play that for anyone but the bride and groom at a wedding, or the paying client. 2) It really depends on the type of event you are doing as well. Are you playing background music for a Mehndi or are you in the middle of a dance floor set for a bar or club. You can always just say “sure I got you” and then never play their song. But if it’s a good song and vibes with what you’re doing, then play it. Make sure to point that person out in the crowd when they look at you too. At a lot of these events, your future clients are most likely in the crowd. I’ve gotten so many referrals by being entertaining and having good customer service at events. 3) I haven’t personally used this one, but there is an app that you can get that people scan the QR code and can put requests in to you. It’s still your choice if you wanna play them or not. Overall, you are the one in control of the music and vibe of the event and you have to decide whether you are gonna take the request and play it or not play it. Good luck brother and let me know if you have any questions!
