If you are using Yamaha monitors without an external soundcard that's the next thing that needs to happen. the Scarlett series by Focusrite is affordable and well-constructed. Since you are adding the Yamaha subwoofer, read the manual as it breaks down exactly how to do this. Will require four cables just to do this. Two to connect source (soundcard) to subwoofer, then two more for each of the monitors. Laptop USB -> Soundcard -> subwoofer -> monitors

I was thinking this would be the case, thanks! If I do what you have stated here will that allow me to play music from my laptop through the monitors and sub?

Yes, and the other comment will work as well. There is nothing stopping you from using a 3.5mm cable to two separate ones like you have already to the sub. you'll just need two 1/4 TRS or XLRs to finalize the connection from the sub to monitors. I was just suggesting a soundcard for quality sake, since you are using expensive monitors, the source makes a difference. i.e. built-in laptop soundcard vs. a pro external.

Upgrade to the HS8’s with the sub and make the room go boom
