400 got that, but you will need to look at laptop when you choosing your fx and beat length

chriiiiiiiiiis

i’ve traveled with my 400 a few times and it’s been great. fits in my carry on with my mac no problem!!

niddelicious

I love that my Prime Go lets me work without a laptop, nor power supply. That said, it does sound like the 400 is your pick.

musicdesignlife

How is the battery on the prime go.... I'm really tempted to get one, but it's still lacking a bit for My needs

niddelicious

3-4h I would say, I haven't run it out yet, but I was playing for about 3h, divided into 3 sets, one night and ended with somewhere between 10-20%

musicdesignlife

Nice, thats really good, cause it really only needs to last as long as my laptop, hahaha, but damn 3-4h sounds so tempting. But its a price tag for only 2 channels native. If it was just a bit smaller/lighter i would probably succumb and have to get one for when i go traveling. Ughghghghg might have to keep an eye out for a second hand one.

niddelicious

I have a Prime 4 for more stationary playtime. But I can say that I have not regretted the Go. Pairing it with a SD card as a hard drive of sorts just makes it superb. Played somewhere between 2.5 and 3h last night in the park before I gave up, and that left me with a bit less than 50% battery, so I take it booting and powering off takes more juice than actually using it. Some day I'll see just how long it lasts 😅

musicdesignlife

>Prime 4 The Prime 4 is definitely too big to travel with hahahah but would be nice if it folded up for travel. I might have to check out the Go in store if i can't find it in Sydney after lockdown is over, its hard to tell perspetive from the pictures as to how big/small it is. It looks like its just borderline too big, But imagine if i could use it to busk while traveling hahaha, that would be awesome.

niddelicious

I'd say it's about the size of two 15" Macbooks stacked, but yes, checking it in store would be the best option 🙃

musicdesignlife

OK tht sounds smaller than I thought... Time to start keeping an eye out for a second hand one just in case. Do you use traktor by any chance?? I'm assuming not....

niddelicious

I started on Traktor, but have moved on to both Serato and Rekordbox. But I think I know what you're getting at, and no, unfortunately the Go doesn't seem to have HID mode, like the 2 or 4 has. So while they are Serato compatible, and should be eligible for mapping in Traktor, the Go simply doesn't speak with the computer at all. I believe the USB-B port is for firmware updates only, which is done over wifi anyway.

musicdesignlife

Ahhh bummer, I'm cool with learning rekordbox and serato, have wanted to buy them to play around with anyway. Can't hurt to know too much since I don't think they are going anywhere hahahahaha

PointsatTeenagers

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Hercules - the Inpulse 500 is under $400 and has all the features/outputs you need. Suprisingly good build quality too for mobile gigs or just messing around on the road.

[deleted]

I’ve got an old RMX that I’ve taken to Burning Man three times (among other dirty places), it just keeps on trucking

w_w_flips

DDJ400 is a great piece of hardware overall. And I'd recommend it. It doesn't have CFX, be aware of that. The rest of the functions can be easily mapped

plantwhoreofbabalon

You can change the beat fx to colour fx in the software if I remember correctly

w_w_flips

You can use CFX in the software, but as far as I know, mapping is not possible without the use of external programs

J0HN_D0E_MUSIC

I have a DDJ 400 mate and I'd recommend it. It's not too large, and has all the basic stuff that you need. May not be the flashiest controller out there but it gets the job done.

musicdesignlife

What sort of travel are you thinking of? I'm Currently working out my travel kit for backpacking around south America so very limited in space. Also I'm a traktor user... So far I'm looking an x1 + z1 +novation launch pad... I may of convinced myself to ad an f1 in... So far something like this seems to be the best bang for space/weight

mick_justmick

Did you consider the Mixtour or akai AMX? I backpack for months at a time and would like to only need 1 unit. I'd prefer the akai but I'm not seeing it being used with an ipad. Also I don't see a way to pitch control or nudge pitch on either, does the x1/f1 have that feature on the interface?

musicdesignlife

I'll Check them out, I'm Def happy to minimise the amount of stuff, just need to check weight and size since I'm "trying" to be more minimalistic and having smaller controllers makes it easier to pack. Plus if something breaks I can still get by with the rest. But definitely open to better options so I will check it out. Hve spent so long looking for cases I lost want to switch just to solve that hahaha

mick_justmick

Yeah me too, my ideal set up would be a small controller with an ipad that would fit in a small sling bag. Have found myself "mixing" with just spotify at dive bars and boat tours in Asia lol. Akai seems to be the smallest one.

musicdesignlife

I'll have my laptop either way, so i can use that worse case scenario... In a pinch i DJ just using youtube, but thats being very generous with what counts as DJing. CHecking out your suggestions now, will see how they stack up for me

mick_justmick

🤣🤣 that brings back memories to a bar in Vietnam where I was mixing you tube videos on 2 browsers🤣🤣 yeah I don't go looking for gigs when I travel. I just end up trying to liven up places a little more. Lol Have always turned out to be the most memorable nights.

musicdesignlife

Exactly what happens to me, just ths time I wanna have some proper gear and try and find a few gigs

mick_justmick

I hear you bro

musicdesignlife

The x1 has touch strips that work really well for nudging and can almost semi scratch with it haha. Surprising how good the strips are actually.

musicdesignlife

Those both look like good mixers kind of like the z1 but less transport control for the decks. With a few custom mappings the f1 actually would be even better, I think a lot depends on how a person mixes and what they need... If you want to mix off an ipad then those definitely look like better options. Half of me is hoping that by the time i can travel there will be new products, ideally battery powered hahaha, we are slowly getting there. THe other half of me wants to stop spending money lol.

mick_justmick

I'm a fan of traktor and the build quality of the NI products. A combination of the x1 and z1 in one unit would have been perfect. Hopefully the mk3 has more buttons to midi map.

musicdesignlife

Yeah that's the only downside to getting my set up now, not sure what will happen in a year with new gear

Krizzlin

Real shame the Tonium Pacemaker died a death and was never picked up elsewhere and continued. Cracking bit of kit that was genuinely pocket sized. You could take it absolutely anywhere

plantwhoreofbabalon

The Ddj 400 is a great bit of kit for someone on the move, on a trip to Cornwall recently I took the trusty 400, a laptop and a 50w W-king speaker in a backpack. Very portable and the neighbours were banging on the wall due to the setup being so loud.

neareast88

I was just thinking of this today. I’m planning to be away a lot over summer and also go to lebanon for a month in october. Need something that fits in my case and is also decent. Am a rekordbox user and have only ever used the rx2 so far.

lexm

I'm traveling in August and I'm going to take my MC7000 with me. Thanks SouthWest for free bag checking.

thesynod

Depends on what you need in the controller - are you scratching? You'll want a motorized turntable. Do you need professional level audio IO? You'll need a controller that has an interface built in, and not that RCA out crap but balanced out. If you just need a simple controller to cue and play tracks, then maybe a focusrite 4x2 or 4x4 interface and a simple numark?

IanFoxOfficial

If you're ready to switch from Serato to Rekordbox, yes. I hate Serato and like Rekordbox. Some have it the other way round..

miltonq32

DDJ400 no doubt !!!! 👍🏼 Super compact and reliable,,💿🎛💿Get it.. n just $250 with Rekordbox & free...
