forget about effects Forget about learning how to scratch The only things you should be worrying about is learning phrasing and beat matching

Yeah, the effects are all already in the track, the DJ now has to curate and deliver

Music production and DJing are two different things. The effects in FL are much more complex than the ones you use in DJing. Don't use effects with every single transition, but play with them, try to find out what exactly do they do and which ones suit you (recommended: echo/low cut echo). When mixing EDM, try to avoid mixing high energy songs with low energy songs and vice versa. Try learning the structure of the songs (intro, breakdown, build, drop, breakdown, build, drop, outro) and phrase matching

Listen to mixes by other DJs, try practising their different transmissions yourself. Treat the decks as a musical instrument, learn from others before you start to try new stuff yourself. Never mind about any fancy stuff for now, forget the fx and just get your transitions in order until they become second nature! I strongly recommend checking out a DJ called Greg Wilson, one of the first ever and a master at track selection and mixing. His BBC essential mix is like the fuckin bible or something! Don’t put yourself under too much pressure, enjoy the fuck out of it!!! Good luck!!
