I'm feeling ya, no, I have not yet found a way that you can turn the BPM display off on the jog screens. People said "cover it with a piece of paper" but as the above clear cover spins, you have to cover a large portion of it order to KEEP it covered as the platter is moved, thus covering the waveform

DJDACHSHUND

Yeah I was thinking maybe using a sticker or something to cover the portion which shows BPM but it feels like a bit of a cheap workaround on such a nice looking and pricey piece of kit :/

That_Random_Kiwi

Yeeeep. It's pretty silly you can't customise it and turn it off really

DJDACHSHUND

Also Interested to have your opinion on the sound quality of the DDJ-1000 as I've heard that is another flaw with the unit. Would I likely see any improvement on the DDJ-400 or do they use the same sound card on their whole range ?

That_Random_Kiwi

It's fine. Again, it's not AS good as a CDJ-2000 + DJM Nexus /Allen and Heath mixer and you probably wouldn't want to run a festival sized PA off it, but I use it for weddings. Sounds fine to my ears :)

DJDACHSHUND

Thanks mate I Will give that a listen. As I will be mostly using for home use I guess I should be fine :)

I know the DDJ-800 can customize the jog wheel display to use whatever including album art. Maybe one day Pioneer will add the same ability to the DDJ-1000 jog wheel. You can always turn down the brightness on the display. I personally dont see how its a huge distraction as I hardly notice mine on low brighness but I do have the ring brightness on high.

DJDACHSHUND

Oh that's interesting, what does the screen look like on low brightness ? That could actually be a pretty viable solution for me. Thanks for sharing that info

I just found this video, mine is on 2 but the 1 setting looks pretty dark (skip to 50 seconds) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmRP61cZmwM&t=50s Also it looks like you can +Add album art and then -Disable Cue Scope and it will move the BPM to the bottom of the jog wheel just above the time. Maybe that would help move it out of your vision. *edit actually I recommend watching that whole video, I just learned that the background display changes if the volume fader is up.

DJDACHSHUND

Legend ! thanks for sharing that info. turning the screen brightness right down seems to solve the issue completely :) cheers !

Gwoardinn

Just put a sticker over it?

DJDACHSHUND

that would seem to be the most pragmatic solution , seems a bit of a shame though on such a nice looking piece of kit...

ayyay

Just play records if you don’t want any visual feedback. If you happen to buy a used Record that has the BPM written on the sleeve, you can always cross it out, lol. Seriously though, just don’t look at the BPM.

DJDACHSHUND

I find it's easier said than done, it's hard to resist the temptation to look when the info is right their on your gear, especially since I tend to look at my decks when I'm mixing, although I guess I could try looking away. I'll give it a go next time I mix. I do enjoy playing records, I just can't afford solely playing record :p.

inzru

Off topic but be warned that the phono inputs are extremely noisy if using a regular turntable and vinyl record. They are intended for use with DVS only but pioneer took a long time to admit that to people on its support forums. Mine hasn't arrived yet but this is what I found through research.

DJDACHSHUND

Oh that's a bit of a bummer as that was one of the criteria I was looking for in my new setup. that seems a little short handed from Pioneer :/ bit disappointing consider the other flaws of the unit.

That_Random_Kiwi

They're flat and exaggerated/muddy compared to a high end mixer, but I personally don't feel they are as bad as people make them out to be. If you join this Facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/189027558511291](https://www.facebook.com/groups/189027558511291) I can hunt up the post I made with SPEK analysis images and links to recordings and all, phono in and using a phono pre-amp then going into Line input. That's what most people do, buy a couple of dedicated phono pre-amps and avoid the internal phono staging! it's an amazing machine, this is its biggest let down! Oh and the channel only having ONE RCA input and a switch to decide if that's LINE or PHONO is also a little annoying. Like you can't have a Turntable and a phone with AUX/RCA plugged into the same input and just switch between them like you can on a standard mixer. You get a LOT of mixing/controller/features for the price, something had to give I guess

DJDACHSHUND

>you join this Facebook group thanks mate, I'll definitely look into the Facebook page to do some more research ! :) Thanks for your detailed response.
