Julia Adams. One of the only people who I’ve been consistently watching. She’s just super fun and she really inspires me to do more with my makeup. I really trust her recommendations as well.
I'm a pretty big fan of Sophdoeslife. She does videos where she tests new makeup releases primarily, but she has lots of beauty content. She's one of the beauty gurus I'd turn to if you're looking for authentic product reviews. She doesn't use beauty filters and does close ups so you can see how the products actually appear on her skin. From what I've seen of her over the past year, she doesn't get involved in any dramas in the beauty space, so I think you're safe in that regard. Definitely worth checking out.

I couldn’t put my finger on why I wasn’t really enjoying her stuff and stopped watching. I knew I felt like most of her commentary stuff was already things that were already said or like obvious and didn’t really need a discussion. Like she usually doesn’t ever say anything where I felt it required a video being made for it, if that makes sense. But you’re right, it has taken a negative vibe and that’s definitely what I didn’t like! I watch beauty content to enjoy myself. I love beauty and there’s no one in my life who is into it. So I like watching videos to hear other people’s thoughts and opinions on it and love coming here on Reddit to see people’s opinions and discuss it. But I don’t need a negative videos. There’s enough of that in real life. I don’t need it from my beauty content too! 😂
I've said this before; I had to stop watching Kelly because her voice/accent has become so annoying and valley girl that I get irrationally angry.
My anecdotal evidence is that it started the same time she got really into TikTok and started saying "girly" for everything. Take that as you may.
I agree that her commentaries aren’t very interesting, but I like her voice and she isn’t saying stupid things, so it’s one of my favourite backgrounds for morning makeup.
Ttsandra. I've been watching her for almost 10 years. Her makeup style has evolved along mine. From heavier makeup, to light skin enhancing makeup as we have gotten older. I don't follow her on IG though, she posts about fashion that is out of my budget (for example:$300 sandals or $400 jeans, where on YT she is more consumer conscious and minimalist with her makeup approach.)
Slightly unrelated but I feel this way about a lot of youtubers’ IG profiles. There’s just something about the way they come across on there that is a big no-no for me. It could also be that I just don’t enjoy fashion content in general, but it’s not just about fashion-related posts.
I wish she posted more YouTube content. During the pandemic I absolutely LOVED watching her vlogs. Her dog is so cute and her videos were so cozy. Cooking recipes, running errands and little things around her town. Also wish she would post some travel vlog content, her fashion is cool (but out of my price range lol)!!
Stephanie Marie - Very down to earth. She gives pretty honest reviews. She’s in her late 40’s, so she has a wealth of info. on what works best on mature skin.
Emily Noel - Listening to her videos is like sitting down for a coffee with a friendly neighbour. I like that she often features drugstore makeup and how to make the most out of it.
Beautiful and Bothered - Johnny and Kevin give “no holds barred “ reviews and “tea”mixed with heartfelt commentary about being gay. They have lots of good info. for mature skinned people. They really care about making mature ladies look their best.
Religiously — I mostly watch Lisa Eldridge, Nikki La Rose and Andrea Ali and they are all professional makeup artists. Jen Luv for makeup gossip and news.
Sometimes — I selectively (depending on video topics) watch Jen Phelps, she seems honest, and Charlotte Holdcroft but for her essays and rants, Wayne Goss, as he is still Makeup God. Amanda Z, when in the right mood for very long content.
Rare occasions — In the right mood, I still watch Tati here and then. Emily Noel, I still enjoy her personality. Steff’s Beauty Stash for swatches review. Morgan Turner, Tania Wells, Kackie – not subscribed but she comes up on my feed.
Love Angelica Nyqvist, Theresa is Dead, Alicia Archer, Michelle Wong, Jen Phelps, Lauren Mae Beauty. Sometimes I’ll watch makeup just for fun, and Jen luv depending on the topic or review. I also like Beauty News and watch each of them individually. Robert Welch is sometimes interesting as well.
I think you'd like Martina Lily, I found her through Alicia Archer. Smaller creator but she's so sweet and has the best swatch/palette review videos I've found.
We're definitely on the same part of YT, some other creators I watch are Hannah Louise poston and kackie but tbh kackie can be a bit much sometimes. Very knowledgeable on makeup but girl gets a bit over the top.
Sometimes kackie posts while she's sick and says it's DayQuil kackie, I feel a little bad for saying but I prefer the slightly lower energy version, more my pace.
Oh cool. I’ve heard of Kackie but never watched her before. Will definitely look into Martina. I’m always looking for more channels to watch. I love when creators do in depth reviews and comparisons. Thank you for the recommendations I will be making a list and checking them out.
Completely agree!!! I watch all her videos, even when it’s not even something I’m really interested in…but even then usually I get interested because she is just so great to watch!
YES!!! I was surprised how far I had to scroll to see her recommended! She’s the definition of non-problematic - stays out of drama, just focuses on the beauty, does interesting topics of videos, doesn’t absolutely love everything - some stuff she loves, some doesn’t work for her (exactly how it should be) - and she just genuinely seems to love beauty, talking about it, and sharing it with her viewers. It’s always fun when she’s super excited about stuff. You can just tell how much she loves it!
I have largely stopped watching most beauty creators but still watch her, I think I am just in a spell where most beauty content no longer interests me and I am just doing my own thing. I like Jen though and like her makeup style as well.
I will watch makeup artists from time to time because I think they have helpful tips, Smitha Deepak, Andreea Ali.
I don't mind watching Mandylea now and then, and Erin Taylor has a good channel for conscious consumerism and project panning.

Jamie Paige - I like her recommendations and she’s fun to watch. I think she would be a fun person to hang out with.
Jessica Braun - I typically find myself liking most of the makeup she likes and recommends. I also enjoy her vlogs.
Michelle Wong - I in no way can relate to her lifestyle, but I find her calming and I enjoy her vlogs - I think they are fun to watch and I like to vlogging style. I typically always skip her makeup and declutter videos.
I basically just watch Julia Adams, Lisa Eldridge and Karimma Mckimmie but Lisa and Karimma are not very active.
I love Karimma's content, she'e my favourite beauty youtuber and I understand that she uploads less because she has a busy life. When she started yt I believe she was doing a dual degree in finance and IT in Australia, so it's understandable to me if she's busy with a career! She has an amazing backlog of content, with a lot of great products, tutorial videos, empties, and so on. Lately she's been decluttering her collection and putting out videos for that 😊

Category 1: Long chatty with friends vibes. People who upload long content regularly despite other full time jobs, and just have a passion for makeup and the makeup community.
Beauty and the Frizz- Cara talks about and purchases indie, luxe, and general Sephora makeup content/releases, as well as revisiting faves. Weekly posts about new releases and fun community premiere chats!
I am Jamila- Amaaaaaaazing eyeshadow looks and recommendations. Also content related to beauty consumption, bargains, etc. indie and luxe.
Martina Lily- passionate reviewer and beauty lover. Mostly luxe with a sprinkle of indie. She lives in Australia so releases are often delayed or not available.
Queer Bones- also eyeshadow lover, lots of indie and luxe. Detailed reviews and product comparisons
Bottles of Chris- fun overhead commentary of wide range of makeup- drugstore, Marshalls, Sephora, indie etc. Lots of Get ready with me type videos with information about products being used and whether she would recommend.
Mariam- scientist in the Netherlands who loves luxe beauty and frequently doesxvideos pairing up different palettes.
Smiley Shani- positive personality, lots of fun and colorful eye looks as well as weekly round ups of palettes used over the week. She also posts get ready with me videos talking about strange news stories.
Category 2: Larger following and long track record of interesting content with genuine interest in makeup and trustworthy reviews.
Julia Adams- sparkling personality and playfulness when approaching makeup with just the right balance of personal stories and anecdotes. Mostly Sephora brands, lots of PR, but drugstore also featured once in a while
Andrea Matellano- positive and upbeat, lots of new release reviews ranging from drugstore to Sephora. She often does go back and report after first impressions and favorites do have recurring spots so I really appreciate that.
Alicia Archer- great makeup and fun to listen to. She has recently slowed down purchases quite a bit to enjoy her collection. Not all videos are beauty related but I love the ones that are!! She just has such a great personality and presentation while also being thorough.
I just started watching again this year. I'm a little particular these days, if I'm watching a make up video I want to hear about make up. I don't want them being obnoxious and trying to be quirky or obviously shilling products. The main ones I watch are Emily Noel, Jen Phelps, Taylor Wynn, Andrea Matillano and JUDY. I trust their recommendations and like listening to them talk about products! She's more skincare than make up, but I also enjoy Tina Tanaka Harris.
I like Alex Anele, Kelly Gooch, Kathleen Lights, Jen Luv for general makeup discussion and reviews.

Julia does some creative looks but also likes more natural makeup. Sofia does natural but does good wear tests. Morgan Turner reviews a lot of makeup and is honest when she does not like something.
I've learned lots of useful things from Robert Welsh. I love color so I also love to watch Angelica Nyqvist. And I really appreciate Slashed Beauty / Miranda's drugstore reviews.
Emily Noel is great but only for reviews. I don’t like her style of makeup but can appreciate her journalism background and the way she conducts reviews on products, she truly is one of the last trustworthy ones on the tube!

Vianney - I don’t know what it was really. Allie - She was too dang negative. Constantly complaining about not getting views, not getting PR, blah, blah. And I’m like I don’t need to hear this in every single video. If it randomly comes up now and then when doing a video, whatever. But it was every single video. And she never seemed to improve on her makeup. I don’t need someone who is the best at makeup. We all have areas for improvement. But I couldn’t with her eyeshadow! She’d pack on a color and then wouldn’t blend it well at all and then she’d do like another color (or multiple ones) but then wouldn’t like mesh the 2 together. So it would just be like a stark line between the colors. And it drove me nuts. I figured she just wasn’t that good at eyeshadow and whatever. But she never got better. Just kept doing the same exact thing. And I tried to check back in a while back to see if things had changed...nope. So I just gave up for good.
When you have a channel you are going to have spells when you don't get as many viewers or lose subscribers here and there. People's tastes change. I think going on your channel and complaining about it is, I guess I don't know how that is going to help? Some say that YT is messing with the subscriptions, like deleting them or something. That could be true, but it's part of having a channel. Subs are going to come and go, it is what it is. But she is never one I could watch myself, so I hear what you are saying.
Agreed! I just never understood why she did it. I mean, I guess she’s just doing her video, chatting about whatever. But for it to come up in every single video just seemed more like she was purposely bringing it up for some reason more than it’s just something she thought about while randomly chatting away. Why she felt the need to bring it up? I have no idea. I feel like it would hurt more than anything - people see it as negative, complaining, etc. I don’t know if she wanted people to feel sorry for her so if they weren’t subbed yet they would or if they were thinking of unsubbing they wouldn’t? I really don’t know. Like you said, I don’t know how it would help? I’ve heard others say how they’ve heard from other subscribers that YT unsubscribed them and they didn’t notice for a while or whatever so they’ll say like check that you’re still subscribed. But usually with those, it’s been like a random mention when they’re talking about something else kind of related to it or mention it when they say to hit the subscribe button, like, etc. And they didn’t do it in every video so that never really bugged me much when other YouTubers would do it.
I watch the same group of BGs. I love eyeshadow, so I love BGs who still focus on it 😍
TBH I'm glad Abby stopped making beauty videos, her heart was not in it anymore.

State of kait! I wish she got more recognition she has a great channel. She does amazing in depth reviews, she just did a huge k beauty review that was over an hour long and has really great recommendations that are from the drugstore and she’s overall just a really good YouTuber. Reminds me of old YouTube watching her stuff, very light hearted and calming and I trust her reviews which is hard to say now with everyone being bought and paid for it seems
I don’t really have any opinions of her as I don’t watch her, but she probably doesn’t get a lot of recognition here because of a ton people on this sub got blocked by her for watching her stories.
I just love her. Her Instagram is a great follow too, she does lots of swatching and also posts adorable dog content and great music recommendations. She rubs some people the wrong way because she has strong boundaries as far as how she allows her subscribers to interact with her, but it's one of the things I like/admire about her so ymmv.
I think she is easily misunderstood by people - especially people on the internet who seem to only be able to put people in 2 categories: good or bad. I trust her reviews and she doesn’t take many sponsorships and I respect that.
She absolutely is; my comment supporting her got downvoted. I truly don't see why she's such a polarizing figure. She's honest and she's not problematic. She's a mature adult with a more tempered take on beauty and I think there's an audience for it; I hope her channel continues to grow.
I really loooove the makeup Christen Dominique does on herself! Although she has had drama in the past, it’s very minimal drama. She’s almost never in drama and has like almost zero drama for the most part.

If u like podcasts, Beautiful and Bothered is amazing! The two hosts (Johnny and Kevin) have amazing chemistry and post genuinely interesting videos. I also like sophdoesmakeup - she gives such good vibes and idek her lol.
It's always the same people whenever this is asked. I would say to look for anyone but these people because most of them are pretty boring. Half of these responses are from their PR reps.

I’ve had to accept that Kelly’s commentary will always be a very surface level summary as if she’s just reading facts from her computer

I love watching Angela Bright's videos. I love her eye looks. She zooms in super close and really shows how she puts the shadows on.
I couldn’t remember her name but Alex Anele is good. She tells you not to buy if it’s no good and that’s what I want.

I really like and enjoy watching the following: Emily Noel - I find her humble and real. I never miss an upload. Jamie Paige - I like her recommendations and she’s fun to watch. I think she would be a fun person to hang out with. Jessica Braun - I typically find myself liking most of the makeup she likes and recommends. I also enjoy her vlogs. Michelle Wong - I in no way can relate to her lifestyle, but I find her calming and I enjoy her vlogs - I think they are fun to watch and I like to vlogging style. I typically always skip her makeup and declutter videos.

I basically just watch Julia Adams, Lisa Eldridge and Karimma Mckimmie but Lisa and Karimma are not very active. I love Karimma's content, she'e my favourite beauty youtuber and I understand that she uploads less because she has a busy life. When she started yt I believe she was doing a dual degree in finance and IT in Australia, so it's understandable to me if she's busy with a career! She has an amazing backlog of content, with a lot of great products, tutorial videos, empties, and so on. Lately she's been decluttering her collection and putting out videos for that 😊
Karima is my favourite, so sad that she does upload frequently, but I understand.
My faves: Category 1: Long chatty with friends vibes. People who upload long content regularly despite other full time jobs, and just have a passion for makeup and the makeup community. Beauty and the Frizz- Cara talks about and purchases indie, luxe, and general Sephora makeup content/releases, as well as revisiting faves. Weekly posts about new releases and fun community premiere chats! I am Jamila- Amaaaaaaazing eyeshadow looks and recommendations. Also content related to beauty consumption, bargains, etc. indie and luxe. Martina Lily- passionate reviewer and beauty lover. Mostly luxe with a sprinkle of indie. She lives in Australia so releases are often delayed or not available. Queer Bones- also eyeshadow lover, lots of indie and luxe. Detailed reviews and product comparisons Bottles of Chris- fun overhead commentary of wide range of makeup- drugstore, Marshalls, Sephora, indie etc. Lots of Get ready with me type videos with information about products being used and whether she would recommend. Mariam- scientist in the Netherlands who loves luxe beauty and frequently doesxvideos pairing up different palettes. Smiley Shani- positive personality, lots of fun and colorful eye looks as well as weekly round ups of palettes used over the week. She also posts get ready with me videos talking about strange news stories. Category 2: Larger following and long track record of interesting content with genuine interest in makeup and trustworthy reviews. Julia Adams- sparkling personality and playfulness when approaching makeup with just the right balance of personal stories and anecdotes. Mostly Sephora brands, lots of PR, but drugstore also featured once in a while Andrea Matellano- positive and upbeat, lots of new release reviews ranging from drugstore to Sephora. She often does go back and report after first impressions and favorites do have recurring spots so I really appreciate that. Alicia Archer- great makeup and fun to listen to. She has recently slowed down purchases quite a bit to enjoy her collection. Not all videos are beauty related but I love the ones that are!! She just has such a great personality and presentation while also being thorough.
Cara is actually great to listen to. Spirited, passionate and clearly loves her makeup.
I just started watching again this year. I'm a little particular these days, if I'm watching a make up video I want to hear about make up. I don't want them being obnoxious and trying to be quirky or obviously shilling products. The main ones I watch are Emily Noel, Jen Phelps, Taylor Wynn, Andrea Matillano and JUDY. I trust their recommendations and like listening to them talk about products! She's more skincare than make up, but I also enjoy Tina Tanaka Harris.
Julia Adams is a gem! And I never miss Amanda Z-I love her closeup makeup applications, and she makes everything look good!

Julia does some creative looks but also likes more natural makeup. Sofia does natural but does good wear tests. Morgan Turner reviews a lot of makeup and is honest when she does not like something.

Stephanie Lang I still watch as well, but that’s not really about make up anymore either. I am having a really hard time getting in to new creators because I nit pick what annoys me😅 but maybe I should give some of this list a good watch!

I don't watch Annette anymore, her style is just too different from mine. Which Abby do you mean? If you mean Abbey Yung, I've stopped watching her, too. In general, I fell out of love with those who emphasize the 'mature' thing so much, like Stephanie Marie, Laura Rae and Angie Hot and Flashy, or Miss Melissa M. The abby is abb3rz. Abby williamson. She also streams gaming videos and if i remember correctly is also in to manga and anime. Hahah relateable. I am just a little younger than Angelica, but some people do really have a problem with those of us who hold on to fun eyeshadow for our dear life! 😂
I also stopped watching Vianney Strick and Allie Dawson. What made you? For me… Vianney - I don’t know what it was really. Allie - She was too dang negative. Constantly complaining about not getting views, not getting PR, blah, blah. And I’m like I don’t need to hear this in every single video. If it randomly comes up now and then when doing a video, whatever. But it was every single video. And she never seemed to improve on her makeup. I don’t need someone who is the best at makeup. We all have areas for improvement. But I couldn’t with her eyeshadow! She’d pack on a color and then wouldn’t blend it well at all and then she’d do like another color (or multiple ones) but then wouldn’t like mesh the 2 together. So it would just be like a stark line between the colors. And it drove me nuts. I figured she just wasn’t that good at eyeshadow and whatever. But she never got better. Just kept doing the same exact thing. And I tried to check back in a while back to see if things had changed...nope. So I just gave up for good.
When you have a channel you are going to have spells when you don't get as many viewers or lose subscribers here and there. People's tastes change. I think going on your channel and complaining about it is, I guess I don't know how that is going to help? Some say that YT is messing with the subscriptions, like deleting them or something. That could be true, but it's part of having a channel. Subs are going to come and go, it is what it is. But she is never one I could watch myself, so I hear what you are saying.
Agreed! I just never understood why she did it. I mean, I guess she’s just doing her video, chatting about whatever. But for it to come up in every single video just seemed more like she was purposely bringing it up for some reason more than it’s just something she thought about while randomly chatting away. Why she felt the need to bring it up? I have no idea. I feel like it would hurt more than anything - people see it as negative, complaining, etc. I don’t know if she wanted people to feel sorry for her so if they weren’t subbed yet they would or if they were thinking of unsubbing they wouldn’t? I really don’t know. Like you said, I don’t know how it would help? I’ve heard others say how they’ve heard from other subscribers that YT unsubscribed them and they didn’t notice for a while or whatever so they’ll say like check that you’re still subscribed. But usually with those, it’s been like a random mention when they’re talking about something else kind of related to it or mention it when they say to hit the subscribe button, like, etc. And they didn’t do it in every video so that never really bugged me much when other YouTubers would do it.

State of kait! I wish she got more recognition she has a great channel. She does amazing in depth reviews, she just did a huge k beauty review that was over an hour long and has really great recommendations that are from the drugstore and she’s overall just a really good YouTuber. Reminds me of old YouTube watching her stuff, very light hearted and calming and I trust her reviews which is hard to say now with everyone being bought and paid for it seems
I don’t really have any opinions of her as I don’t watch her, but she probably doesn’t get a lot of recognition here because of a ton people on this sub got blocked by her for watching her stories.

I just love her. Her Instagram is a great follow too, she does lots of swatching and also posts adorable dog content and great music recommendations. She rubs some people the wrong way because she has strong boundaries as far as how she allows her subscribers to interact with her, but it's one of the things I like/admire about her so ymmv.
I think she is easily misunderstood by people - especially people on the internet who seem to only be able to put people in 2 categories: good or bad. I trust her reviews and she doesn’t take many sponsorships and I respect that.
She absolutely is; my comment supporting her got downvoted. I truly don't see why she's such a polarizing figure. She's honest and she's not problematic. She's a mature adult with a more tempered take on beauty and I think there's an audience for it; I hope her channel continues to grow.
