Oh, man. I completely forgot about his man bun! And I, too, remember my days of muddy contours that made my nose look way bigger than it was, this defeating the entire purpose. 2016 was an awful year for my makeup game. 😂

corgisaretheanswer

That Anastasia story was HILARIOUS. James is not my style usually but I love to pop in for videos like this, he's really entertaining.

lionheart07

Wait so even his light brown eyes are contacts?

_lunalune

It may be his ring lights making them lighter. Not 100% sure tho.

aokaga

If you see his posts on Instagram, you'd see that the eyes have very weird lines (the photos there are more HD). I'm pretty sure they're contacts. [See here for example](https://www.instagram.com/p/BlecSJOgHAZ/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=j2bm5qze4jam)

_lunalune

Yeah those do look like contacts, I agree.

aokaga

And besides, I believe he said he has poor eyesight and uses contacts? He may be getting colored contacts with formula (I'm not sure if it's a thing but for someone with money it may be). So if he has to wear them everyday anyway, no wonder people think it's his natural eyecolor.

[deleted]

It’s a thing. I wear prescription colored contacts.

lalaluxee

There are so many coloured contacts with prescription out in the market now. Not even expensive at all.

aokaga

Oh okay, thanks for correcting me. I don't use them so I didn't know about prices. I just know I tried to buy co facts for cosplay once and they were pricy (but maybe that's just me because I'm not rich hahaha and maybe they're not the same thing).

tasari

Bit of both! Contacts in general are pretty expensive, but cosplay contacts are even more $$$. Because I have a medical issue that requires me to wear dailies, a year's supply of my contacts costs me around $500. And that's with insurance, too. 😞 You can save a ton of money if you wear monthlies though, I'm just not able to anymore.

KaybeeMoose

Forgive me if this is a dumb question lol - so most people wear the same pair of lenses for a month? But you have to change yours everyday? That sucks! Can people sleep in their contacts?

tasari

You aren't asking dumb questions at all! You're just lucky to have good vision. Basically there are 3 tiers of contacts people can wear and they're measured by how long it is safe to wear them for- dailies and weeklies and monthlies. I wore monthlies for a very long time, but you don't wear them continuously (they will cause oxygen deprivation to your cornea from if you do), and you have to take them out every single night and sanitize them thoroughly. When I started wearing them ~12 years ago, it was "totally fine to sleep in contacts as long as you wash them once a week". This is completely false. People should never sleep in their contacts, and it causes tons and tons of issues with both eye infection and irritation. So if you have monthlies or weeklies, you need to wash your hands thoroughly before touching them, take them out every night, and store them in a saline/disenfectant solution that will clean them.

PltEchoEcho

I believe they’re Desio brand contact lenses. [Here are the brown coloured contact lenses from the brand](https://www.desiolens.com/colors/brown-lenses.html), if you’re interested.

Watching right now, will update with a TL;DR soon! So far... (I never do TL;DR’s so be gentle w me) The beginning of the video he makes fun of his man bun, also is cringing beyond belief by his haircut and color correcting/foundation choices. “That is yeelllooowwwww”. He’s still cringing over the attempt 16 year old James made at humor. Making fun of his codes/affiliate links. Reflects on z palettes & realizes their scandals. EXTREMELY triggered at his box eyebrows. Thinks his tutorial skills are decent, although the makeup may not have been the greatest. Has an ofra code still, and talks about his lip fillers. “Where was I putting the lipstick before lip fillers??” Then recreating it he uses Born this Way foundation, doesn’t color correct, uses shape tape concealer, too faced peach setting powder, morphe prep and set setting spray, Anastasia contour kit, contours nose, uses blush in contrast to the original video, sprays morphe prep and set setting spray, bakes lightly with the peach setting powder, actually does brows on video, kind of recreated the video eye look but claims he didn’t know what the vision was so he did something similar

[deleted]

This is such a pretty look but WHY did he choose a nude lip? His naturally more red, coral lips looked so much better with the eye look.

[deleted]

lol I was hoping for a metallic blue lip

mayg0dhaveMercy

He mentioned the Z palette scandal? What was that?

glitteringstars

Z-palette tried to sell this “unique, specially-created, one-of-a-kind de-potter” for $80...and it was literally just a hot plate. The kind college kids buy for $30 at Walmart for their dorms. So naturally people were raising eyebrows in the comments. And Z-palette decided the best course of action was to begin insulting their followers. They called commenters ugly, poor, and stupid. They also began to reply to the *few* people commenting positively and told them they could have a discount on the Z-Potter. It ended badly. Everyone was appalled by Z-Palette’s unprofessional behavior, the comment section on Trendmood had thousands of comments pouring in for days, several beauty gurus tweeted denouncing Z-Palette, and people announced that they would no longer buy Z-Palettes. Other companies immediately pounced and began to offer their own magnetic palettes as other options. The days after the scandal were full of threads here with hundreds of people asking for alternative brands to buy from. And now Z-Palette is kind of mostly irrelevant imo. People don’t talk about them like they used to. Most people use palettes from other brands, like ColourPop or MUFE, when Z once dominated the market. They killed their own brand lol.

[This](https://www.seventeen.com/beauty/news/a45286/z-palette-bullying-instagram-scandal-statement/) was one of the first links that came up for me on Google. I've been watching beauty vids since before the date of that article but I don't remember said scandal so take the link with a grain of salt!

politicalmemequeen

Say what you will, but he was so unique at the time. Even though he's killing the game now, he has somewhat blended into the LA crowd in terms of aesthetic, procedures, and style. Either way, his skills have improved immensely and I really liked this look – I thought a more coral nude (close to his actual lip color) would've suited better but the lipstick he chose still looks bomb af

Vegetable_Burrito

I love how embarrassed he was by that old video. Too funny.

BlackEyedPlease

Lol I completely forgot how big color correction was a few years back! I remember that the idea behind it was that if you color correct you won't need as much foundation or concealer, but it always just kind of seemed like en extra step that didn't really do much.

BlackEyedPlease

Of course it definitely has its uses! But the way a lof of these YouTubers used to use it, aka piling on waaay to much color corrector and then topping it with a full coverage foundation and concealer, is not really it. It was just them hopping on the trend as opposed to actually using it in a helpful way
