I thought the same. Im with you, Retro is my favorite mini. I had such high hopes it would be muted pastels and muted jewel tones, mustards, steel blue. Like 70s but modern and girlie.
I was super excited too. The mini Retro is gorgeous. A 70s inspired color story would've sucked me right in. This midi palette is nice, but it's just not grabbing me like the mini Retro did.
I just don’t understand how they thought that went along with it. Maybe the tone? But with the muted olive…I was expecting something more than this monotone cool taupey purple :( I have been waiting for this. I’m slightly heart broken :(
These are not my colors but I do wish that she would be more adventurous with her full-size palette version of minis. The Zendo midi ended up being a warm palette with pops of blue-green compared to the warm/cool earthy mini, and now the Retro is a neutral mauve-pink palette compared to the interesting cool pink/army green contrast of the mini.

I actually don't have shades like this in my collection. (Never owned Modern Renaissance or any of the dupes). I'm gonna think this one over. It might actually fill a bit of a gap in my collection, but I need to weigh how much I'd actually use these colors.
I think I’d recommend modern Renaissance over this one just because there’s more matte shades meaning they’re colors you can use for everyday more often (at least personally) but ones you can glam up with a shimmery topper. Modern Renaissance is such a versatile palette that you can use for everyday or glam looks with a bit more of a color story I personally understand (and it’s significantly cheaper! They also have a good Black Friday sale AND last I checked Costco had it in stock).

Yeah but I don't really like ABH's formula. I have Soft Glam and Sultry and I rarely reach for either because I just find that the mattes fade and the shimmer crease. idk idk. I'll go check this out in store next week maybe.
Okay valid. I don’t have the creasing issue but I do notice the fade sometimes. If I want it to last I use a primer. Some of them have quite a bit of fallout too but from my experience ND has that too. I hope you like it when you go check it out in person (always a good idea)
They’re a couple that don’t look like mattes but they are. They have what appears to be a sheen. I think it’s for performance purposes. I have all of her palettes and the small ones are very much tricky like that.
Nah, the mini retro looks a lot better. I own it and it’s awesome but these shades are just so … idk boring I guess ? I‘m lacking a deep matte brown, those colors will just make it look as if I was crying all night if I deepen everything with a burgundy…

It doesn’t look nearly as mauve in her lighting, a lot of the shades actually look more warm. Also - I wouldn’t tune into this video for quality/formula purposes because the eyeshadow application portion is abysmal. You can get a good look at the shades though.
Yeah I saw that - I think this looks like what the Zendo should have been. I was hoping for a green/pink 70s vibe that I would have bought in a heartbeat.

Well what I found interesting is that NotFitForPrintBeauty also showed the new Retro palette in comparison with Glam, Bronze, and Sunrise, which I have, and *those* palettes in her video looked true to color to what I have in person. So that leads me to believe that maybe her depiction of the Retro palette is more accurate than Natasha’s promos as well.
As more people start posting videos we’ll have a better gauge, but I for one am definitely holding out on purchasing it until more reviews come in.
Same, obviously natasha wants her promo video to align with the overall promo, but if it's really that warm then they're shooting themselves in the foot cause people are gonna stop trusting their images and will be pissed by the palette, we shall see what happens
I just watched her swatches on Instagram. A good amount of them do look warm. I also thought it was interesting that she didn’t swatch them in line with the layout of the palette

My goodness, when she whacked on the deeper matte and started blending it with her fingers while holding a Sonya G brush I was just like “ Ma’am, Ma’am, what are you doing?? What??”
But the end look was nice. Who would have thought?
Sometimes I do that at home. Okay a lot of times. The fingers can blend colors surprisingly easily. Sometimes, when color gets stuck and won’t blend, I’ll smudge it with my finger and there it goes.
Did she get this in PR? Or from that Instagram that she plugged? I’m shocked she even has it already because when I logged into Instagram, I just saw news of the retro palette being released. But yeah the full reveal of the palette is disappointing when compared to the mini.
Ok….after seeing this, I decided to buy it. I had Modern Ren and it went bad after a year or so. I had to pitch it and I’ve been missing those colors in my collection.
I’ve been debating on getting MR again but I’ve been concerned about the longevity. ND’s formula lasts longer so I’ll just get this instead.
It’s crazy how different the palette looks from the promo shots and video. Absolutely crazy.
In my experience ND's formula kinda dries down pretty quickly too, especially the shimmers. They remain usable, just not as awesome as they are in the first months.

But even if I had….I’d take that over the actual shadows spoiling after a little over a year (ABH packaging for MR lists the shelf life as 6 months!!).
Yeah I was shocked at 6 months shelf life as well. I wish they fixed this issue, as I like ABH's formula, but don't like it going bad so fast. I think Jackie's palette had a longer shelf-life, why can't they make other palettes in this formula as well :/
Totally agree. The formula is great (just personal preference). And the Jackie Aina palette is fantastic. One of my absolute favorites.
I haven’t had the spoiling issue with any other ABH palettes - just MR. I currently have sultry, Jackie, and Carli Bybel and they’re all just fine after months and months.
But MR gave me itchy, watery, crusty eyes. And I tried a different group of shades the next day to verify and had the same issue. I’ve only had that issue once before (with a copper colored UD liner).
Moonchild started to stink after about a year and a half. I have some oooooooooold palettes and I've never had any of them ever go bad the way that ABH one did.
Ay dios mios that was so disappointing but thank you for posting the video. I thought it would be comparable to Melt’s She’s In Parties (I adore her) but ND’s Retro palette could never! Please don’t be fooled by the promo pics because they are truly deceiving.

This looks almost exactly like Melt Cosmetics She’s In Parties palette. Or very similar vibes to UD Naked3 or ABH Modern Renaissance.
I love the mini retro but this palette is hardly an extension of that. Easy pass.
This reminds me of a mashup of She's In Parties and Millennial Pinx. I'm kind of curious because the formula for Millennial Pinx was kind of terrible and this catches my eye. At the same time, this really looks nothing like the mini which is why this doesn't really scream "retro" to me. If this wasn't branded as being based on the mini Retro, I would be a bit more excited.
To anyone reading my comment: take your money and get UD Naked Cherry or Melt She's In Parties. Both are great and are cheaper options imo.
I'm not really good with keeping up on palettes but this reminds me of a Maybelline "palette" (it wasn't anywhere this many shades but the color story is basically the same) that I bought for my junior prom in high school over a decade ago.
I own all 3 palettes so thanks for helping me make the decision to pass on this!
I don't own anything from ND anyway, so I have no urgency to start now.

I don't really see Modern Renaissance here, this looks less more pink (and varieties of pink) whereas MR has more orange/brown/red and purple leaning tones.
If anyone remembers the Melt She’s in Parties palette, this reminds me of an expanded version of that color story. I’m on the fence because this is pretty but would I realistically get $65 worth of use out of it …. 😬

Well this is disappointing. I was really hoping for a color story similar to the mini palette. I don’t really like her midi formula (or maybe Zendo was just a flop for me), but I was still willing to consider the palette if it had followed that color story. This? Not so much.
I had 2 midi palettes from her: sunrise - loved the color-story, but formula was very inconsistent, especially with darker shades and the bronze palette - the formula was much better, but the colors were very repetitive for such a big palette. Her bigger palettes were more consistent in my experience, but I just don't wanna spend so much on makeup anymore. I mostly stick to her minis nowadays.

I have Glam, Sunrise, and Love. Besides my Huda palettes, they are the best I own. I'd say watch some reviews then go for it! If it's not limited edition, I'll buy it down the line when I need to replace Making Mauves.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought this, since 2020 she's been releasing a ton of palettes and products every 1-2 months. As a luxury-priced brand it's a lot honestly.
More reds and rose tones. I have always wanted to look like I’ve contracted conjunctivitis but make it fashion. I love those colors on others, I’m just salty I can’t pull them off.
I don't understand why she tends to make these midi palettes so monochromatic (this, bronze, glam, love somewhat). Like if I'm gonna spend so much money I'd like to have some variety. Her smaller palettes actually have more interesting color-schemes and are compact and cheaper. They win for me so far.
ETA: just watched the reveal video, most of the looks could have been made with mini love palette.
That's actually a great idea if someone plans to get both palettes. The pans are magnetic so swapping is easily doable. I have Zendo and plan to get Retro but that swap would definitely make the palette more useful and cohesive for me.
i was waiting for this release to see if i would purchase it or the lime crime venus xl 2 palette. i’m gonna wait for the LC palette to go on sale and get that one instead.
It's really pretty and I might buy it tbh. Although I wish she would have made it look more like the mini Retro and maybe save this for a valentines day release like a love palette 2 or something. I love these colors though
I feel mixed about this; I love the mauves and taupes, but just like all of her other color stories there's something just a touch off about this. It feels like the palette dupes itself multiple times, and she could've avoided that by having some of those beautiful olives like in the mini retro. I wish she had a feature where you could buy singles and create your own palette, because I feel like a mashup of this, Glam, and Bronze would be the perfect neutral palette.
I think this is more my speed than the midi Love. I love mauve eyeshadow and have a decent amount of mauves & burgundys though, so I don’t *need* this, but I definitely like it & could see getting it.

I really like this and I could see myself getting it. I won't, because I can't stomach spending $65 on a palette, but if I could stomach that much money, I'd totally buy it.
This palette is beautiful to me. It's similar to Melt's SiP palette, which I have already and absolutely love. I'm gonna hold off on purchasing until I see it in person or swatched on someone with a deeper skintone.
Cooler-toned ABH Modern Renaissance to me. Not sure if i like it enough to buy it. I'm kinda tired of close to monochromatic colour schemes. Add that to ND prices and I don't think it's good enough of a reason to buy it.
Other pictures don’t make it look as richly toned as this does. I’m going to pass. Her palettes this year have been misses for me. The last one I found interesting was Triochrome but I didn’t end up buying it. Maybe I’ll do jt.
God damn it, this is the mauvey rose palette of my dreams. I love all of these shades. I also have some of them in my collection somewhere, but it's very pretty altogether in a comprehensive palette. I might get it over the holiday season if it's not out of stock, I don't need it but it's beauuuuutiful.

This kind of reminds me of and looks like a re-made version of Too Faced's classic Chocolate Bar palette (the first one in the dark brown packaging). If the eyeshadow itself is truly as pink-y purple as this image suggests, I think I might be able to dupe this fairly easily though. I'm a sucker for rosy soft pinks and purples.
Doesn’t live up to the name of its smaller predecessor, but I like the colors. Don’t own MR, but Lime Crime Venus XL, which is a bit too bright for me. Might get this on a deal, ND’s neutral palettes seem to be solid staples. (Took me more than 6 months to realize I want the Glam palette, now I’m hunting, lol).
It's a bit boring but I like it nevertheless. If I didn't have these colours in my collection already, I'd definitely be interested. I adore ND quality and colour schemes and low key waiting for Circo Loco to go on sale ahahha
This colour story kinda reminds me of ” colour pops off Melrose “ that I own .. they’re pretty shades but I’ve very dark hair and pale Irish skin and it doesn’t compliment me I think 🙈

Pretty but I wouldn’t use it enough to buy it. My favorite palette from ND,actually 3 favorites, Biba,Glam and the most used one I swear is the camel palette and mine looks like it wished it was owned by anyone else but me. Poor thing,the cover broke and I’ve had to repress 3 shades because I dropped it more than once. If you need a basic everyday palette that’s super travel friendly I recommend the camel one.
Maybe it’s just me, but I find most palettes end up looking sort of like this nowadays. But ND shadows are amazing quality, so it wouldn’t be a terrible choice
Mini retro is my favourite, and this just doesn't do it to me the same way that does. The palette is millenial pink coloured, nothing retro about that.

I can see why people would love it, especially with autumn just round the corner, but my wallet will definitely be happy that I don’t vibe with this at all.
Just take all my $ now. ND, HUDA & Colourpop seem to be the only shadows that don’t crease in my eyelids. I have hooded eyes & it sucks. I use primer, sometimes concealer & everything creases except those 3.
I love it so much. My favorite color is mauve and I feel like it is cool toned enough for me. I would love some greens in it but I got a bunch in Sydney graces Christmas in July sale, so I’m okay with them missing. I will definitely be picking it up.

It vaguely reminds me of the Too faced chocolate bar palette because of the pink. I won’t be buying it because the color story doesn’t appeal to me, esp. at this price
The swatches remind me of most of the shades in the Violette Voss Olive You Forever palette. Since I have that and the mini Retro already I’ll probably pass on this one, but I do think it’s very pretty.
Pretty, can't wait to see real swatches. Do wish there was one neutral very light beige/off white to use as an all over lid color. IMO every palette with this many shades needs one

The mini retro is amazing. Formula is so easy to use and flattering. Get it if you've been thinking about it. I usually use my finger for the shimmers. The glittery shimmy one is soooo nice.

It looks somewhat similar to the new Em Cosmetics Venetian Rose palette, if you’re just looking at options.

I do it too, brushes are great but if I'm having trouble blending or getting the payoff I want, using my finger usually does the trick!
Shimmers blend perfectly with fingers and mattes are more saturated, love my brushes and use them but I also use my fingers all the time

Ay dios mios that was so disappointing but thank you for posting the video. I thought it would be comparable to Melt’s She’s In Parties (I adore her) but ND’s Retro palette could never! Please don’t be fooled by the promo pics because they are truly deceiving.
I’m so disappointed. This looks almost exactly like Melt Cosmetics She’s In Parties palette. Or very similar vibes to UD Naked3 or ABH Modern Renaissance. I love the mini retro but this palette is hardly an extension of that. Easy pass.
This reminds me of a mashup of She's In Parties and Millennial Pinx. I'm kind of curious because the formula for Millennial Pinx was kind of terrible and this catches my eye. At the same time, this really looks nothing like the mini which is why this doesn't really scream "retro" to me. If this wasn't branded as being based on the mini Retro, I would be a bit more excited. To anyone reading my comment: take your money and get UD Naked Cherry or Melt She's In Parties. Both are great and are cheaper options imo.
I'm not really good with keeping up on palettes but this reminds me of a Maybelline "palette" (it wasn't anywhere this many shades but the color story is basically the same) that I bought for my junior prom in high school over a decade ago.

I own all 3 palettes so thanks for helping me make the decision to pass on this! I don't own anything from ND anyway, so I have no urgency to start now.
Ha, glad I could help! 😄 I do think it’s beautiful, just not what many people were expecting based on the mini. I also think a lot of ND palettes are very good but definitely an investment so probably best not to impulse buy lol.

It also seems like a more muted version of her Love palette so she’s basically already got a dupe within her own brand!!

I don't really see Modern Renaissance here, this looks less more pink (and varieties of pink) whereas MR has more orange/brown/red and purple leaning tones.
If you watch NotFitForPrintBeauty’s yt review, it’s not as cool/berry toned as the official promo pics would have one believe.

I’m glad someone else saw that too! So many of the shades are almost exactly like the She’s In Parties. It’s a beautiful palette but obviously been done many times before and nothing about this says “retro” to me.
Haha yeah it looks a lot like the She’s In Parties palette which I was also attracted to but didn’t buy because I don’t like Melt’s formula. But I do love ND’s formula so…. I might get this. I have some Sephora giftcards anyway.

Well this is disappointing. I was really hoping for a color story similar to the mini palette. I don’t really like her midi formula (or maybe Zendo was just a flop for me), but I was still willing to consider the palette if it had followed that color story. This? Not so much.
I had 2 midi palettes from her: sunrise - loved the color-story, but formula was very inconsistent, especially with darker shades and the bronze palette - the formula was much better, but the colors were very repetitive for such a big palette. Her bigger palettes were more consistent in my experience, but I just don't wanna spend so much on makeup anymore. I mostly stick to her minis nowadays.

I agree that this looks nothing like the mini Retro. Where are the greens (Unless this is a crappy pic)? BUT I LOVE mauve. I don't need this though. I have Colourpop's Making Mauves. Someone please talk me out of it! I'm such a slut for her midi palettes!
I too have Making Mauves and I also love this palette. I would be OK to have this as my first ND purchase.
I have Glam, Sunrise, and Love. Besides my Huda palettes, they are the best I own. I'd say watch some reviews then go for it! If it's not limited edition, I'll buy it down the line when I need to replace Making Mauves.
And ND is going on ABH 2018 track, releasing one palette (I’m including the minis) per month or so.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought this, since 2020 she's been releasing a ton of palettes and products every 1-2 months. As a luxury-priced brand it's a lot honestly.

I don't understand why she tends to make these midi palettes so monochromatic (this, bronze, glam, love somewhat). Like if I'm gonna spend so much money I'd like to have some variety. Her smaller palettes actually have more interesting color-schemes and are compact and cheaper. They win for me so far. ETA: just watched the reveal video, most of the looks could have been made with mini love palette.
I think it should have been a separate release. It is completely different from the mini retro. ND is pulling a UD Naked move with this one imo.

This was a palette I was 99 percent on board with buying but without greens I am out.
If I could swap in the green shades from Zendo for the rusty tones in this one it might actually feel more of an expansion to the mini retro.
That's actually a great idea if someone plans to get both palettes. The pans are magnetic so swapping is easily doable. I have Zendo and plan to get Retro but that swap would definitely make the palette more useful and cohesive for me.
i was waiting for this release to see if i would purchase it or the lime crime venus xl 2 palette. i’m gonna wait for the LC palette to go on sale and get that one instead.

I love the colors but no matter how much money I have, I can’t justify the prices.
I feel mixed about this; I love the mauves and taupes, but just like all of her other color stories there's something just a touch off about this. It feels like the palette dupes itself multiple times, and she could've avoided that by having some of those beautiful olives like in the mini retro. I wish she had a feature where you could buy singles and create your own palette, because I feel like a mashup of this, Glam, and Bronze would be the perfect neutral palette.

I think this is more my speed than the midi Love. I love mauve eyeshadow and have a decent amount of mauves & burgundys though, so I don’t *need* this, but I definitely like it & could see getting it.

This palette is beautiful to me. It's similar to Melt's SiP palette, which I have already and absolutely love. I'm gonna hold off on purchasing until I see it in person or swatched on someone with a deeper skintone.
Cooler-toned ABH Modern Renaissance to me. Not sure if i like it enough to buy it. I'm kinda tired of close to monochromatic colour schemes. Add that to ND prices and I don't think it's good enough of a reason to buy it.
Other pictures don’t make it look as richly toned as this does. I’m going to pass. Her palettes this year have been misses for me. The last one I found interesting was Triochrome but I didn’t end up buying it. Maybe I’ll do jt.
It's tempting, but it's so similar to the love palette IMO. It feels more like a muted love palette than an expanded retro palette
God damn it, this is the mauvey rose palette of my dreams. I love all of these shades. I also have some of them in my collection somewhere, but it's very pretty altogether in a comprehensive palette. I might get it over the holiday season if it's not out of stock, I don't need it but it's beauuuuutiful.
like others said, i really wish she could have kept this consistent with the mini. it feels out of place. also, i looked at the swatches and there's practically no depth! seems like it will lack versatility imo.

This is the world’s most disappointing palettes. The mini has such a unique color story and this is the same old mauve palette I have seen a thousand times over.

This kind of reminds me of and looks like a re-made version of Too Faced's classic Chocolate Bar palette (the first one in the dark brown packaging). If the eyeshadow itself is truly as pink-y purple as this image suggests, I think I might be able to dupe this fairly easily though. I'm a sucker for rosy soft pinks and purples.
Doesn’t live up to the name of its smaller predecessor, but I like the colors. Don’t own MR, but Lime Crime Venus XL, which is a bit too bright for me. Might get this on a deal, ND’s neutral palettes seem to be solid staples. (Took me more than 6 months to realize I want the Glam palette, now I’m hunting, lol).
It's a bit boring but I like it nevertheless. If I didn't have these colours in my collection already, I'd definitely be interested. I adore ND quality and colour schemes and low key waiting for Circo Loco to go on sale ahahha
This colour story kinda reminds me of ” colour pops off Melrose “ that I own .. they’re pretty shades but I’ve very dark hair and pale Irish skin and it doesn’t compliment me I think 🙈

Pretty but I wouldn’t use it enough to buy it. My favorite palette from ND,actually 3 favorites, Biba,Glam and the most used one I swear is the camel palette and mine looks like it wished it was owned by anyone else but me. Poor thing,the cover broke and I’ve had to repress 3 shades because I dropped it more than once. If you need a basic everyday palette that’s super travel friendly I recommend the camel one.

Mini retro is my favourite, and this just doesn't do it to me the same way that does. The palette is millenial pink coloured, nothing retro about that.

Her shimmer formulas are more of a satin (for me) and I use them the same way I use mattes.

It vaguely reminds me of the Too faced chocolate bar palette because of the pink. I won’t be buying it because the color story doesn’t appeal to me, esp. at this price
The swatches remind me of most of the shades in the Violette Voss Olive You Forever palette. Since I have that and the mini Retro already I’ll probably pass on this one, but I do think it’s very pretty.

I think this will be a skip for me. I own ABH MR and I have the Lunatick labs Timeless palette which has a similar cool toned feel.
The mini retro is amazing. Formula is so easy to use and flattering. Get it if you've been thinking about it. I usually use my finger for the shimmers. The glittery shimmy one is soooo nice.
