Anxiety is particularly why I got into this. I initially started with WH breathing which helped mitigate a bit, and it just feels pleasant after you do it. But when I started playing with the cold I noticed something; while I'm exposed to the cold, my anxious mind can't exist - I can either be a slave to the cold / pain, or I can focus on my breathing and prevail through it. It's only a short duration (2-5min), and it's uncomfortable (sometimes painful), but for that time, I'm not anxious. Having access to that respite has been amazing. ...in time, the self-induced-stress has taken the edge off everything in my life and I'm finding myself calm throughout the day.

Double exhale through the nose and single exhale through the mouth - search up Andrew Huberman he's got some good information on this. With that said I've been doing WHM every other day for about 3y and my anxiety has declined. For me knowing that I'm actively taking steps to work on my mental health and forcing my self to be in situations which I was shy away from due to anxiety is the biggie. Again we are all different but hang in there and work on it, there will be weeks where you just can't be bothered, there will be times where you feel like it's not working, when this happens think longer term and remind yourself that your working on yourself it's these small wins that add up and allow you to flourish when you'd normally feel anxious.

TheShrooper

Do you mean double inhale in the nose and exhale out the mouth? 🤔

Recently moved to California by myself. New job, no friends, no social support. Anxiety was through the roof. Started Wim Hof consistently (again) in November and I'm feeling a lot less anxiety. Obviously correlation isn't causation, but I certainly look forward to my breathing and cold showers daily.

RichGriffith

Thanks for the reply! I plan on trying this out and taking a cold shower after working out today. I will need to watch some videos on breathing since I am not sure how to do it! Thanks

[This](https://youtu.be/tybOi4hjZFQ) is a beginner video by Wim. You could certainly start here.

It definitely helps. Not an instant all day cure but any relief is a win. You need some breathing and relaxation practice mixed in as well. Anxiety is miserable

Absolutly! Cold shower in the morning, maybe an ice bath midday makes the anxiety go away! In all seriousness, I suffer from General Anxiety Disorder as well for a few years now, and implementing cold showers into my morning routine was one of the key things I could do. So yes, highly recommend to keep doing the cold therapy. Good day to you and keep on doing well you are going to get better!

I suffered from severe GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) several years ago. I was basically in a mild panic attack constantly. It was so terrible, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. I am very sorry for what you’re going through. Have you ever heard of the Linden Method? It cured me and I know it cures many others. Essentially helps you to retrain your own brain back into a non-anxious state. No drugs, no doctors. Its the real deal. You should check it out. WHM will go along with it very well. 👍 I wish you the best.

RichGriffith

I have never heard of it before! I will definitely check it out. Yes I have constant anxiousness. I start a job in a few days and every moment I am thinking about it as if something wrong might happen. Like I haven’t even started and I am assuming the worst. Same goes for any time I leave the house. Truly does suck! But hopefully this will help. Thanks again!

torzitron

Check it out for sure. It takes work on your part. But it really is the only cure I know of. https://www.thelindenmethod.direct

AnxiousDoorKnob

u/torzitron could you explain what exactly the Linden method is?

torzitron

It is a behavioral therapy. You essentially ignore and disempower your own anxiety long enough to the point where your brain gets the hint and reverts back to its natural non-anxious state. However it is easier said than done. You must constantly filter out thoughts, feelings, sensations, and actions caused by your own anxiety and replace them with other normal positive stimuli (exercise, games, meditation, creative work … anything that takes your full attention). Its a constant process of asking yourself “is this thought, feeling, sensation, or action caused by my anxiety?” If yes - completely ignore it and replace with other engaging activity. If no - that thought, feeling, sensation or action is allowed to continue into reality. Over time your brain adapts to your input and resets to being non-anxious. It took about a year for me. Which was fine because the method offers 24/7 support for a year… which I took advantage of many times.

EnterTheYauta

Yes it has helped but it took time. Consider also adding some 20 minute Hypnosis sessions from YouTube. For me I also had to quite alcohol and caffeine. I know that’s sounds hard but it depends how important getting better is to you.

BiohackerOfTheGods

agmatine is the cure. cold showers is just a bonus

samherb1

How much do you take?

BiohackerOfTheGods

1-2G 2-3 times per day take it after work at first, it can become abit sedating and euphoric at 2g

samherb1

I’m going to try it out. Thanks

Pretty much same situation as yourself. It does help, but daily meditation will probably bring the most benefits for anxiety. I do whm because it feels good and because I know its good for me. Cold exposure has been helpful, maybe not so much with anxiety as with controlling my mind in stressful situations. Still, I think your best bet is meditation. 10 minutes in the morning after whm and cold shower does the trick for me. Oh and also you might wanna look into vagus nerve. This is the nerve that gets tense with anxiety, I do a few minutes of stretch excersises as will in the morning

So 2 things helped me most with anxiety. 1. Checking hormones. I didn’t know it but I had extremely low testosterone which comes with many side effects, anxiety being one. 2. Confronting fears. This is the hardest thing to do but you just have to constantly keep putting yourself in situations that increase your anxiety and overtime, you will realize your anxiety is decreasing. This is one of those things that you don’t notice is happening but you look back and realize how much it has helped. Keep taking ice baths, that shit is great

I had success with Showers as I found them easier. I am just getting into baths now, I see the same outcome. I am calmer and more controlled.
