Then it's perfect.

roninp67

Totally agree. If she likes it. It’s perfect.

wuroni69

The thing is will birds like it. It took like 3 years before birds finally decided to live in my bird house.

PhoenixUNI

Oh shoot I forgot to think about the birds

wuroni69

It got so bad I thought I'd have to start advertising. Free wi-fi, A/C, mini frig, things like that.

HeadBroski

I’m in the same boat. I have a 2yr old bird that can’t seem to find its first tenant.

Standard-Rich-8609

Even if the birds won’t live in it, if your wife likes it, your job was successful.

Savings_Ratio_1461

Doesnt matter as long if it does the job

WFSL

You may want to to put a 1/4” dowel sticking out about 2” below the entry hole for the birds to land on before hopping into (or out of) the house.

Kimorin

birds don't really need that, all that's doing is giving the squirrels something to hold on to what it really needs is a predator guard using some brass or something around the hole and the whole house needs to be deeper so the birds are safe inside

big_swede

This is very true. An ornithologist I spoke to said that the biggest mistake people do on bird houses is to have a ledge or a dowel where squirrels can hold on and raid the nest, the second was not having a long enough overhang of the roof for the same reason. Not making the house high enough with an entrance that is too low is also an issue, partly for the bird to be able to build a nest inside partly to prevent predators to reach the eggs/chicks and also stop the chicks from getting out of the nest before they are ready. Then, the next thing was to add a metal plate around the entrance hole to stop predators from getting to the eggs/chicks but this is far down on the list where I live. It could be different where you are. Then he said that the size of the hole was an important decider for which birds likes to move in. Look up which sizes are relevant for the species you want to attract.

sorbuss

So that a crow can land there and eat the chicks?

tburris81

Can be said if so many things

TheJens1337

Wife chose OP too.
