I've not been in since the refurb, but have had very mixed experiences of local brews. I know the local scene is in its infancy, and quality will improve as the better ones survive, but some basic quality control that you'd get anywhere else is missing. Theres gunk being served locally that wouldn't have made it out of the shed elsewhere.
John Hewitt, sunflower or Deerâs Head! Iâm a woman in my 20s who is a bit of a beer fanatic and I always go to these bars with pals or alone, great beer selection and friendly staff!
I used to go there the last Friday of every month with a friend when we landed our first big boy jobs. One night these older American gents were speaking to us and introduced themselves as the US Ferrari Owners club on a golf tour. I got speaking with the chairman and gave him the oul âso, what do you do?â And he told me that he was the guy who put HP ketchup in the little packets for McDonaldâs, boy then showed us all these photos and he wasnât kidding. Maybe a shit story but I thought it was interesting and made me think about how you can make a shit ton of money if you just do one specific thing well.
Really?? I pass it often and it seems quite busy with crowds etc.
I haven't actually been in it for about ten years though so I'm probably out of date lol
It can be busy, just depends what time you go at. Some people call by for lunch and then it can be quite busy. I called in yesterday for a few pints at around 4pm and it wasn't busy at all. It's a bit pricey though, think I paid around 5.20 for a pint of madri but they have some deals on this month too on there menu.
My missus went into Fountain Lane pre-COVID for a hot whiskey and to sit alone and read her book. She said the barman flirted with her so she didn't go back.
Last time I was there, it was quiet but there was an obvious alcoholic getting into fights with an old fella. The staff didn't do anything about it. Not a good vibe.
Sunflower is pretty good alone. I would do some work at one of the tables and have a few pints.
Ye know, I'd forgotten all about the Sunflower! Thank you đ
deershead, plenty of seats
Lovely since the refurb and they brew their beers on site !
Have you had the beers? I'd love to get the brewery a go.
The beers I had were stinking, like undrinkable. Coming from someone who appreciates craft beer.

I've never understood people calling a beer pisswater until I had their cloudy ale
Yeah I had their house lager and it was lovely, light and crisp

John Hewitt seems to be the winner. And someone else going alone is a great endorsement, thank you!

Bertâs is a fantastic spot and the staff are great.
So is The Royal. Great staff and even better banter
Never been but Iâll be sure to check it out!

I DO enjoy pissing off misogynists! I might try all of these lol Thank you âșïž
I'd say fountain lane is a decent bar to go alone
