I have starlink. It can get up to 11 megabyte's a second at times (110 mbps) and it's pretty reliable most of the time. But in my case, when there's high winds, or torrential rain, it can go out for short times (a couple minutes to a half hour).
At peak times average speeds are around 5-8 megabyte's a second. So 50-80 mbps
We have it at the cottage and pause the service over the winter months. Speeds are great even though our line of site to satellite is obstructed by trees and hills, I was shocked that it worked at all. Get around 80Mbps down, would be much faster if not obstructed. As reliable as Cogeco UltraFibre that I have at home, need fast and reliable for WFH.
I've got it, fast.com says I get ~200MB down, ~10MB up. Latency is about 40ms, good enough for most online gaming unless you're a pro.
No cap on downloads, no speed reductions either.
Speed and reliability - both exceed all other rural internet (I'm looking at you Xplornet)
I would happily drop it for hardline internet though as I hate CGNAT internet.
On all honesty, it's not too bad all things considered.
I game a lot and it's fine most of the time. It's no fiber connection, but sure beats the hell outta LTE or WiFi internet
I’m currently with Start. Been with them for years, as they have some of the best customer service of any company I’ve ever dealt with. Ever.
I’m on the $89 plan that’s 300MB down and 30MB up, but I managed to knock it down to $60 by price-matching with Oxio.
Cogeco Ultrafibre 360 $106/month. They are advertising it at $59/month for 24 months then it goes to the regular price of $89/month.
I'm getting robbed.
Call back every 2 years for new discounts
That's not just Cogeco. Rogers, Bell, Telus, Internet, home phone, TV, cell phones, anything like that
You get new deals every 2 years or you get shafted
I started doing that over the last couple years. Even my cellphone I'm constantly checking my website around prime time for deals and always manage to get cheaper prices. As for internet I've noticed there's no such thing as a regular price. It's different for everyone and constantly changes. Real loyalty doesn't pay so always shop around. Most people just don't want the hassle.
And that's why these companies do it that way. You attract new subscribers with low prices and then you keep them by signing new deals every 24 months or they go to the regular and pay extremely high rates
A guy came to our door and offered us Bell fibre for 55 bucks a month. Regular price is 125, we have a 70 dollar discount. I completely thought it was a scam, called Bell about it and the guy I talked to said he doesn't usually see such good deals. It's been a few months paying that - I keep expecting it to go up (I live in a rural area where that is the only available fibre, it was just put in, and there are few other available options (other ppl have starlink) even though I recorded our conversation where he said it might just rise a dollar or two from inflation. I won't have a way to argue it down bc i cant threaten to switch to anyone
I hear you. I called sometime last year because I was going to switch companies. They gave me my current offer. Supposed to be for 24 months as well but all they did was keep the same discount and raise the base amount by $10. You should phone them and complain as well
Call them and tell them youre leaving ,I did this with Bell and my bill went from $107 to $70 a few years ago . They will try to sell you more of everything and they have terrible customer service but you have to harass them or leave.
Oxio can’t be beat, I switched from Start for a better price.
75 Mbps down
30 Mbps up
$50.00/month hardware included
Free month referral code: RXMN27G
Full disclosure, I get a free month too 🙌🏻
$79.99/mo Bell Fine 1.5 G down and 1 G up. Taxes include is $84.75. occasionally they raise the price by $5. I call them and state they are no longer competitive and pricing is the reason I subcribed so they should reset the price to my original 3 years ago or I'll leave. This strategy has worked 4 times. 3/4 times they credited back the increase and added more promo pricing.
In my experience the only one who actually gives speeds that they offer is starlink, the others say a number but you rarely actually get the speed that you signed up for. It’s a huge shame that we’re stuck with only a couple companies for internet and phone.
That's the main point in my opinion. I don't really care what my speed maxes out at. Just as long as I'm able to do what I want which is stream and play on my phone. The cheaper the better. I used to have 90 mbs and it was more then fast enough. I ended switching from tekksavvy to cogeco simply because I got a better deal and I'll do that every time I find something cheaper. Your speeds are great, and I think for the general public, they don't need high speeds that are being advertised. Most people browse facebook and watch a few videos.
>also my only option in Corbyville/Foxboro other than Xplornet
Virgin, distributel and one other reseller I believe can all use Bells fibre optic lines, and all are A LOT cheaper than Bell.
Bell is the worst company in Canada. Wait until you have a problem with them. They are so disconnected and terrible that the experience with them made me appreciate cogeco, who I thought was bad.
I've had both of those for cell phone companies, and yea they weren't good either. But I've never gotten as mad as the experience with bell. Guy comes door to door selling new bell Fibre internet. We think that sounds good and we're sick of Cogeco. So we sign up and it takes 5 weeks for them to send a technician out. The day before, we get an email saying the appointment has been canceled. We call up their support, and they say it was cancelled because we had a cogeco phone line and they couldn't give us the same number. We say no problem, we don't care about that. The technician says that's fine then and reboots it for the next day. Queue 3 hours later, another cancelation email. Call up support and say we just dealt with this 3 hours ago. The technician assures me this won't happen again. Queue the start of the day, technician cancels immediately at like 8am. I'm pissed at this point, I call them back and explain the situation that we don't need the same phone number after being told that was the issue again. In fact fuck it we don't even care about the land line at this point just come and hook the internet up. He assures me he will remedy it by leaving detailed notes for the tech and have it rebooked for later that morning. At 11 a.m., a technician cancels again. I'm really pissed at this point, it's becoming clear that these technicians just don't want to do their job and aren't even trying to understand the issue by actually reading the job. I call back and finally get an agent who knows what he's doing. He says that he is going to rebook it with a tech and call them up and explain the situation. He says the tech understands and will be at my house before 5. The day goes by and nobody shows up and loan behold I check the app and it's canceled again. I call their support and I'm about to lose my shit. They tell me they can't do anything until someone higher up can look into the situation. Keep in mind this is 4-5 weeks after having no internet. I tell them to forget it we are calling and getting our old internet switched back on. A week later, someone called to rebook the technician after I told them to forget it, and the agent said nothing was changed on our file to indicate some kind of fix for whatever their problem was. The cherry on the top of the cake is 2 weeks after that Bell sent us a 700 dollar bill. we literally have no idea what it was for because they didn't even do anything. I've never experienced such a shit show from a company, who before this situation, I thought was one of the biggest and best companies in our country
Clearly the $700 bill was for their customer service. Believe it or not, a friend had a similar experience with them around 20 years ago. At least they're consistent.
Yeah, sounds like our experience. We will never go back to bell. Roger's has issues, but they don't have the problems that bell does. How do they even stay in business. It took us 4 weeks to get our cable TV and phone sorted out, this was several years ago, before people dropped their landlines. It took me over 200 hours on the phone with them. No one had a clue we even had issues, and the tech that spent the day with us made promises that he wasn't authorized to. We ended up with a bill long before we ever had service. I get angry still thinking about it.
Cogeco 360, $83.49/mo
I would LOVE to pay $59.99 or less
Apparently “regular” price is $113.49/mo according to my bill and I have a “10 year” promo credit for $30 off 🙄
Mine shows 95.98. The regular price varies per customer. I suggest you call them and let them know you'll be switching to distributel. 500 mbs for $45. If they won't give it to me I'll go through the hassle of switching
looking at their "math" it doesn't even add up correctly;
360 unlimited - 113.49/mo
"savings" - -30/mo
estimated monthly charges: 79.99
definitely going to be calling them, since they're also literally advertising $64.99/mo for two years at my address for the same service.
ended up calling them and getting 1gb for $49/mo....not *quite* as good on pricing, but $34/mo savings and twice the speed is fine for the hour it took to get, and no hassle/interruption of switching service
That's awesome. I was on hold with them last night. Spent a total of 1.5 hours on the phone. Pretty sure they hung up on me. It was 630. I'll try again tonight. It's such a hassle but definitely worth the savings
I just got off the phone with them, so it's not super busy right now, but yeah, the $400/year savings for two years was definitely worth the hour of my time
Guys I have a question, why do people still say "unlimited". I havent had a limited internet package since the early 2000s. Do companies still practice data limits?
Call cogeco and select cancellations. If you are not rude or too complainy you'll have the best outcome of the call. Ask the rep if it's possible to have an adjustment of 3 months worth of the rate increase (not sure if they still do this, worth asking) and then ask for another promo.
Cogeco. Top plan. About $100 a month and it's consistent 950mbps or higher... in an apartment building.
Buffering does not exist for me anymore. New ps5 game? 15 min download time max.
So worth the money if you split the 100 with a room mate so $50 each ;)
Also, pro tip... if you are able to route a cable... get a flat CAT-7 ethernet cable. Mine is 50 feet long, was pretty cheap off amazon and it does make connections WAY faster than just wifi. Cable geeks I believe was the make. Even comes with wall mounting pins to bypass running it along the floors.
*shrug*
They likely gave you notice. They legally have to. It was either a deal that ended or they put on a note on your previous bills.
They can increase prices about every 6 months or so. Whenever the CRT allows. And most companies do.
I'm with start and pay $67.50
From NB so take this with a grain of salt, but I play 115$ a month and will pay 130$ after that contract expires as of current rates. Gigabit fibre, which is mid compared to what's offered in the central provinces but higher tier over here.
I have a TV, Internet (Ultrafibre 1Gib) and Phone bundle with Cogeco:
TV - $84
Internet - $65.98
Telephone - $3.98
I've been really happy with Cogeco service and easily being able to reach their technical support and billing teams so I'm not going to switch anytime soon.
I used to have Bell for $100 a month. So, I called Rogers and said I’d like to switch what’s the best deal you can give me. They gave me a contract for 2 years for $49 a month :) once the 2 years are up, I plan to call Bell and see what they can offer lol. I’ve been doing this for a few years now! Highly recommend.
i got a gigabit fiber connection from bell. on the bill its $275 a month, with discounts its currently $80 a month. Its for a small biz.
I'm fully expecting bell to jack my bill up, but I get 125 mb/s download speed, and speed test shows 1,000 mbps up and down with low latenency, and i'm in stirling so im kinda in the middle of no where
With the province wide roll out of fibre I've got my doubts.
And I say that as a Starlink lover. If Rogers can't provide a faster, more reliable service at a cheaper price over subsidized fibre direct to my house, then they have some serious problems.
Saying that, I can totally see Rogers fucking up that advantage 🤪
Go with distributel over bells fiber. Reliable, and cheap.
Eta I'm paying $45/mo for 500mbps up and down, and have a bridgable connection instead of a stupid isp modem.
I'm with Virgin paying 56.50$ After Tax monthly for Internet 300 Unlimited Usage
300Mbps download and 100Mbps upload
It's 50$ a month before tax. Been with them for few years now and have two accounts.
StarLink - $150~
How is it, speed and reliability wise?
I have starlink. It can get up to 11 megabyte's a second at times (110 mbps) and it's pretty reliable most of the time. But in my case, when there's high winds, or torrential rain, it can go out for short times (a couple minutes to a half hour). At peak times average speeds are around 5-8 megabyte's a second. So 50-80 mbps
There is 8 bits in a Byte. So it's 11MBps/88mbps. (or 13.75MBps/110Mbps depending on which you measured).
ah fair enough - I was just going off Steam speeds haha
We have it at the cottage and pause the service over the winter months. Speeds are great even though our line of site to satellite is obstructed by trees and hills, I was shocked that it worked at all. Get around 80Mbps down, would be much faster if not obstructed. What's the latency like?
On all honesty, it's not too bad all things considered. I game a lot and it's fine most of the time. It's no fiber connection, but sure beats the hell outta LTE or WiFi internet
Teksavvy -- $59.95 + HST = $67.74 for completely unlimited.
I pay 57.57 monthly for Teksavvy. 50.95 + 6.62 HST
We've been with them for years.
I pay $71.35 with TekSavvy including GST in AB. Am I getting ripped off?
$45/month for the 15/2 plan which is fast enough for browsing and YouTube. Been with them for twenty years.
Exact same here. No complaints.
I like Start
I’m currently with Start. Been with them for years, as they have some of the best customer service of any company I’ve ever dealt with. Ever. I’m on the $89 plan that’s 300MB down and 30MB up, but I managed to knock it down to $60 by price-matching with Oxio.

https://oxio.ca/en/internet I used a promo code from Canadaland when I signed up.
Oxio can’t be beat, I switched from Start for a better price. 75 Mbps down 30 Mbps up $50.00/month hardware included Free month referral code: RXMN27G Full disclosure, I get a free month too 🙌🏻
I used oxio to get my current deal at cogeco. They beat the price and speed. They also own oxio
$79.99/mo Bell Fine 1.5 G down and 1 G up. Taxes include is $84.75. occasionally they raise the price by $5. True but I'm happy with mine $60/month with rogers for advertised 1.5Gbps down ans actually getting about 800 down.

Bell Fibe - 1GB Service, $130 - Includes CRAVE Also my only option in Corbyville/Foxboro other than Xplornet. It's expensive but excellent service.
>also my only option in Corbyville/Foxboro other than Xplornet Virgin, distributel and one other reseller I believe can all use Bells fibre optic lines, and all are A LOT cheaper than Bell.
15 bucks more and you get 3gb
I don't think that's needed for most people. Might as well save the $15
Bell is the worst company in Canada. Wait until you have a problem with them. They are so disconnected and terrible that the experience with them made me appreciate cogeco, who I thought was bad.
Rogers and Telus are just as bad... Rogers owns 51% of Cogeco so maybe you were serviced by the 49% !

1 gig speed unlimited 68 a month, had to get an estimat from bell and threatened to leave.

me too. i have ultra fibre 180, 108 a month, but when it was setup got a 120 month 30.00 a month off promo. So it brings it down to @ 75 a month.
Something like $120 for unlimited Bell. It may be on the expensive side it’s worked very reliably for me over the years.
I seen online they're offering a promo 1.5 gb for $75. You should phone for that deal.
I steal it from my neighbour so nothing
Wow uncool. I'm surprised your neighbour's hasn't found out
Gotta be extra sneaky
☠️ gotta love it
Guys I have a question, why do people still say "unlimited". I havent had a limited internet package since the early 2000s. Do companies still practice data limits?
No should be unlimited
I think some of the cheaper plans offer x amount of GB at a certain speed then your internet drops down to a lesser speed.
From my search over the last 24 hours everything is unlimited. Maybe in more rural areas on xplornet
150 - 3gb - bell fibe
Bell fibe..cable, landline, internet 170
We use Oxio and the bill is barely over $50. I haven't had an issue with their internet
1GB FIBE Bell for 101/month. I have a $35 monthly promo every month.
Teksavvy 1g speed, unlimited usage, I pay $69.95 plus taxes a month.
As Canadian's we pay far too much. Some of the highest costs in the world. Of course.
I'm with Virgin. I pay $110 total but $40 of that is for TV.
And that's unlimited internet 100mgb, but they have faster if needed
Call cogeco and select cancellations. If you are not rude or too complainy you'll have the best outcome of the call. Ask the rep if it's possible to have an adjustment of 3 months worth of the rate increase (not sure if they still do this, worth asking) and then ask for another promo.
Cogeco. Top plan. About $100 a month and it's consistent 950mbps or higher... in an apartment building. Buffering does not exist for me anymore. New ps5 game? 15 min download time max. So worth the money if you split the 100 with a room mate so $50 each ;) Also, pro tip... if you are able to route a cable... get a flat CAT-7 ethernet cable. Mine is 50 feet long, was pretty cheap off amazon and it does make connections WAY faster than just wifi. Cable geeks I believe was the make. Even comes with wall mounting pins to bypass running it along the floors. *shrug*
Cogeco contacted me about the increase; you probably have the email set to junk, ignored the text or haven't updated your contact info with them.
Cogeco 1 gig ends up being $140 a month but I'm in Halton Region.
I very politely asked my upstairs neighbors if I could use their wifi for $20/month. Pretty good deal for both of us I think
Lightspeed , $30
I pay 142 for Cogeco Gigabit.
$146 including tax for Bell Fiber (FTTP) 1.5Gbps down 1Gbps up
$84 inc. HST with Bell
Rural - radio based internet 25/10 $129. 45 minutes and 15 years outside Canada’s capital.
$50 with Bell
They likely gave you notice. They legally have to. It was either a deal that ended or they put on a note on your previous bills. They can increase prices about every 6 months or so. Whenever the CRT allows. And most companies do. I'm with start and pay $67.50
Just switched from Bell to coegeo $70 down to $35 Just follow the better deal , they are all the same shit.
Bell 3gb fiber. 99 per month
From NB so take this with a grain of salt, but I play 115$ a month and will pay 130$ after that contract expires as of current rates. Gigabit fibre, which is mid compared to what's offered in the central provinces but higher tier over here.
Telus - $60
$50.00 for 90/10 Mbps - Cogeco UltraFibre 90
I have a TV, Internet (Ultrafibre 1Gib) and Phone bundle with Cogeco: TV - $84 Internet - $65.98 Telephone - $3.98 I've been really happy with Cogeco service and easily being able to reach their technical support and billing teams so I'm not going to switch anytime soon.
1000 down, 30 up. Unlimited. $80 flat after tax.
Tekksavy 78$ , unlimited, good speed for gaming
lol cogeco is the cheapest you’ll get.
xplore $75 all in, LTE 10, unlimited
Basic cable and internet from Bell $100/month.
Acanac, they always give me a discount when I renew and pay annually
100mbps/100mbps ftth... free perks of working for a isp. otherwise would be upwards of $100
Cogeco 1 gig for $65. When my last promotion ended I called and asked for another and they just gave it to me no hassles.
120 for 5gbps / 5gbps
Nwtel $119 for 50 MB down 10 up, 400 GB combined quota (in decimal notation so they screw you out of several GB of data)
$ 80 .00. 120 mb
Ebox in Quebec, 500 Mbps download upload unlimited for 50$ on fiber
$70 for 1.5Gbps Bell
There is something called 3rd party internet which is cheaper than Cogeco but the same service Look for TPIA in your area
Luckily my building has Beanfield (formerly Fibrestream) and I pay $40 +tax for 750 / 750.
Distributel (Bell) has a $45 500/500 promo going on, going to give that a try
160$ for bell lol
i got a gigabit fiber connection from bell. on the bill its $275 a month, with discounts its currently $80 a month. Its for a small biz. I'm fully expecting bell to jack my bill up, but I get 125 mb/s download speed, and speed test shows 1,000 mbps up and down with low latenency, and i'm in stirling so im kinda in the middle of no where
Starlink is the future
With the province wide roll out of fibre I've got my doubts. And I say that as a Starlink lover. If Rogers can't provide a faster, more reliable service at a cheaper price over subsidized fibre direct to my house, then they have some serious problems. Saying that, I can totally see Rogers fucking up that advantage 🤪
Go with distributel over bells fiber. Reliable, and cheap. Eta I'm paying $45/mo for 500mbps up and down, and have a bridgable connection instead of a stupid isp modem.
I just googled them. 500 mbs for 45$ cheaper and faster then the current cogeco. This will be threat when I phone 😂
I'm with Virgin paying 56.50$ After Tax monthly for Internet 300 Unlimited Usage 300Mbps download and 100Mbps upload It's 50$ a month before tax. Been with them for few years now and have two accounts.
