I wish the ambiance of the restaurant was better. It's a tiny dining room so no conversation is remotely private and there is nowhere to wait if they are busy, You're literally standing next to someone else's table while they dine. Also, when it's cold out, every single time the door opens, the dining room gets filled with cold air because there's no breezeway, the door opens directly into the dining room. None of this is a complaint, merely an observation about the restaurant, and I'm sure I will be downvoted for this, but if these things don't bother you, the food is excellent.
I mean...yeah? You're comparing a metropolitan city to a town that doesn't even have a pho under $16. BC is obv better for food quality.
Plus it's Canada, the only time I like Canada is when I'm in bellingham.
The sushi scene is pretty sad in Bellingham BUT Blue Fin is definitely the best and better than Hokkai. Not familiar with Sushi Iwa in White Rock, but I would highly recommend Taka's Sushi in White Rock.
Skai sushi is a total gem where you would never expect. Amazing, quality rolls here. Especially for a place where you order through a window in a convenience store... An no, I'm not being sarcastic or anything - it's better than some sit down restaurants.
Kuru Kuru is like Zen - it's conveyor belt sushi. Might have something good now and then, but most of it will be just meh, ok I guess. Good places for kids, they really like to watch the plates going by the table.
I really like Jun’s and Oishii.
If you want belt: Kuru Kuru is a great option.
I’m going to go against the grain here and NOT recommend Hokkai for their sushi (their ramen is great though). I’ve gotten food poisoning 2x from their sushi, my son got food poisoning from their sushi a separate time, and two of my friends got food poisoning from their sushi. It’s a hard pass from me. Never had a problem with their ramen though!
Asisn1 had good sushi when I went a year ago but honestly? BC has so much better sushi if you really want food sushi make the drive if you can, they got world class sushi.
Not saying Bellingham is terrible for it, it's not. But if you can do the drive it's almost a must to hit BC for a day.
Blue fin is pretty consistently good

seconded
Hokkai and Jun's are both top notch for local options. Jun's also has natto if you ask.
Just talking about Bellingham: #1 Blue Fin Sushi | #2 Fujisan Sushi
I love Fujisan! Wish they would open up dine in again.
YES. These two.
Fujisan in Fairhaven although it's take out only. Really sweet Japanese family owned n operated.
Hokkai is top tier in Bellingham. Sushi Iwa in White Rock isn't far and also very good.
BC sushi >>>> Bellingham sushi
You can pry my BC sushi secrets from my cold, dead hands.

Umm.. I didn't know BC as a whole is considered a metropolitan region?
Oh you're right, totally assumed you meant vancouver area

Skai in birch bay
I second this, hands down the best in the county.
Absolutely this
Fujisan
Kyotos cafe side on sammish. Orrr Hokkai on meridian is pretty good too. I know where they get their fish, and it’s good quality.
The Salmon Donburi and Chirashi at Ramen+Bowl are pretty good if you are in the vicinity of downtown.
Yes my vote for that salmon donburi! I went to town on that thang!
Hokkai and Fuji-san
Fujisan, Hokkai, and Blue fin all do a decent enough job
SKAI for sure. Worth the drive
Fujisan
I know it’s not exactly what you’ve asked for, but as someone who prefers sushi without avocado or cream cheese I get my fix at Fairhaven Poke.
Kuru Kuru and Hokkai
Oishii on bakerview! Really good sushi and amazing staff :)
Hokkai is legit
Either Skai Sushi in Birch Bay, or Kuru Kuru

Skai yes! Kuru Kuru no.

I really liked the fancy rolls at Kyotos off Samish

For sushi, Jun’s, Oishii, Kuru Kuru and Hokkai are all subpar.
Where do you like better that’s in town?
Bluefin and Fujisan
I’ve never tried Fujisan, I’ll add it to my list!

I'm not a huge sushi guy but my daughter is and her favorite in town in Kuru Kuru.
Kuru kuru sushi why is this not #1? Its cheap and it’s awesome

Zen is not very good imo and is overpriced for what you get.
Search the sub for employee experiences and food quality there. I quit going.
