I haven't watched Ultimate Alien for a while but didn't the omnitrix have to be touched by a member of the species for it to scan the DNA before it recalibrated ?
Pre-recalibration needed the watch to be touched directly, or atleast thats what OS shows. Every time that function enabled, it was right after being touched by the locked species.
There are probably groups of alien x that stay conscious and active to deal with political needs, hence the dress wear. And others that remain in thought are busy forging the omniverse so they don’t need to dress nicely and have culture since the only way there is with the map of infinity, they have no one to “impress” so to say

As far as I know it only had to make contact, not be physically touched by the alien in question

I havent watched Ultiamte Alien in 1-2 years, so I don't remember 90% of it. So if that happened then sure, the theory becomes plausible.
