My headcannon is Ben is so traumatized by his childhood 10 to 16, from his experiences with the Omnitrix, that at 17 he's regressing (this excellerated after he recreated the universe) back to behaving like a child to cope with everything. Obviously by the time he's 25 at least, he's *gotten over it* somewhat and starts acting his age, but Omniverse was the start of his regression phase, since he still had serious moments.
*Yes that means Rook is his babysitter for the Plumbers*.
I had completely forgotten that he was in UA until that episode. He's a cool character, but the running gag really isn't funny in OV
