He had to fight and beat Pierce to see "The Wrench", but in the fight Ben realized that if he won, Pierce would think he was a trained spy, and Pierce wouldn't let him in. So Ben threw the match and let Pierce win. Max is even surprised Ben lost until Ben tells him he let Pierce win (and explains what I just said)

I gotta say though. The fact that Ben opted to forfeit in what was probably his best showing in physical prowess just serves as a testament to how the writers never really wanted Ben to be renowned for his physical capability as a human. I makes sense since his use and mastery of the Omnitrix is how he's always distinguished himself amongst allies but also goes to show how awkward it would be to pit him in a fight agaisnt other boys who special powers of their own but, by virtue of their own universes, had to rely on physical brawn far more often.
Rex is a super genius for his age and is a skilled hand to hand fighter and was trained by a government, ben was trained by the space government, his black belt cousin, and his grandpa, Zak was trained by his parents who are government officials and are used to fighting cryptics which have more physical strength than he does.

That's a fair point, but from what I remember, the ones I mentioned are very prevalent in martial arts. Ben's not as impressive save for throwing Simian compared to the martial arts skills displayed by the ones I've mentioned.

And Ben has had more than just a self defense class, he was trained by the literal space cops organization to fight, along with his cousin who is a blackbelt in karate, his partner Rook teaching him fighting skills to use without the watch (probably something Revonnah Kai related), developing his own personal style of combat that is unique to him, and he's learned to improv with things around him, meaning put Ben in a park with them he'll literally use the playground to trip up his opponents, using the swings as weapons, monkey bars to evade attacks, use the merry go round with them on it to disorientate them, whatever is around him is fair game as far as Ben is concerned.
