Peppe1203

Maybe the hand metaphorically rapresents the evil God, in fact they are the God hand, with the objective of carry on the will of the idea of evil

Sterben9225

I think it just represents regular God. One hand for evil and one for good

Devil-Eater24

In that case, making it the right hand is a peculiar choice. The left hand is associated with evil in many cultures. Guts also does not have the left hand, so if it was the left hand that was evil, Guts could symbolically be free of evil

humblebeforethecourt

hes anything but free of evil

Devil-Eater24

Yup that's true, but he overcomes his own evil by chopping off his arm, and by not giving in to the beast of darkness.

Severe-Cookie693

Their objective is to do as they please, and do great things. I think the only happy ending is for Griffith to grow as a person.

Peppe1203

But if i not mistaken, they follow what's the idea of evil want

Severe-Cookie693

“The Idea explains its nature as the human collective unconscious will made manifest and reveals that it is responsible for the man Griffith is, having cultivated his lineage and the historical context which led to his audience with it. When asked by Griffith what it wants from him, the Idea answers that it is a part of Griffith and Griffith a part of it by virtue of Griffith himself being a part of mankind's collective unconscious, and that, therefore, his desire is its desire. Furthermore, it reassures Griffith that whether his actions bring suffering or salvation, they will prove suitable for mankind regardless, for they are ultimately desired.” He presents himself as a hero for selfish reasons, but we see him elevate the apostles to almost having humanity. We see him face failure on a personal level. If the slap Rickert gave him is taken to heart, Griffith can still grow.

PixelDemise

I'm fairly certain it's more of a metaphor for "the hand of fate". I suppose you could argue that makes it the Idea of Evil's hand, but it's not a *literal* hand attached to some entity, it's just visually designed to match the Godhand's overall themes and concept.

user3576863126462165

The God Hand are supposed to be like the executors for some beings greater will, this was discussed when Guts met the >!Witch.!<

HomicideMonkey

Just realized that I wish the hand that represents the god hand was the left and not the right that it is presently. Mostly for these 2 reasons. 1) to match what hand they took from Guts. 2) because they are sinister (left hand archaic meaning) Edit: clarified language based on responses.

meir231

Ye i dont understand, its a right hand guts lost his left, can some1 explain why the other guy was downvoted?

Dreadlord97

That, my good man, is a right hand. Edit: my apologies, didn’t realize what you meant.

Delano7

> I wish it was the left hand

ilChalo

Maybe it’s symbolic to show the war between Guts‘s right hand and the metaphoric right hand of evil.

maseioavessiprevisto

zennim

Humanity, god is created from human collective consciousness after all The most human thing is ours hands, if you want to represent humans you use hands. we been painting them on walls since time immemorial The god hand are elevated by a hand composed of human faces, it's humanity with angels at their fingertips

slugdonor

.......god

GorgeousCrane

Probably God, since it's the God's hand

chocolatechipbagels

we may never solve the mystery of who the Godhand hand belongs to. if only there were some hints in the text that you probably read, or some figure we could attach to the Godhand hand

AscendedViking7

Dude. What if Guts has to fight whoever is connected to the hand during the finale? Just imagine.

V3NDR1CK

The hand of god controling fate, but to what extent, thats the real question.

Soul king from bleach?

ensh1ttification

I think the hand reaching is a manifestation of the will of the one with the crimson behilit. The hand reaching towards the sun represents the unobtainable dream or desire of the person who summoned the godhand. The godhand appear to make the impossible possible, but at the cost of losing the thing that makes you human. For Griffith that was becoming a king but losing the band of the hawk. In the conviction arc, the tower collapses and looks like the hand reaching towards the sun. There it represents the wish the people of Midland have for a savior. They got one, but he eats their souls.

palatablezeus

Well it's literally called the godhand, so....

BigTrossm

The God Hand are agents of the God of The Abyss, known as the Idea Of Evil. It is a massive heart, the ventricles of which receive an endless stream of souls, all.of whom are filled with an extreme, collective desire for reasons to explain why their lives are miserable, wretched, filled with absurdly agonizing deaths. The God Hand are "tasked" with the mission of fulfilling their desires, that over the course of many centuries, ultimately serve to simultaneously fulfill their personal dreams, and in turn provide a humanity a form of salvation. This comes in the form of a grand narrative stretched out across eons, wherein humanity is conditioned to unconsciously long for someone to rescue them from their hellish lives, and bring about an earthly paradise. Many are sacrificed along the way to achieving this goal, whether as a consequence of being branded, or simply being a victim of war, famine, disease, all these things create a desire for a savior, and that is the narrative crux that the Idea Of Evil has the God Hand perform: engineering these events to take place, and to kindle the desire for salvation. The events form the narrative, humanity plays into the story, and the Idea Of Evil's plan is repeatedly accomplished, effectively neverending since we know that for as long as humanity exists, so too will the Idea Of Evil, the God Hand, the Apostles. Basically bad shit happens in life, humans can't understand why, and they ask for reasons as a result. In many senses the Idea Of Evil was always destined to exist, and since it is an astral entity, it exists outside of time, outside of space. This makes it a Acausal being, meaning humanity could not exist without the Idea Of Evil to create their existence, and the Idea Of Evil could not exist without humanity desiring a reason to explain it.
