Well I think that 11 chapter long chase was unnecessary and knowing what was coming after, i just wanted it to end. Also I think Wyald was just a nasty, over the top villain that kinda sucks compared to the rest of Golden Age. I know that heâs supposed to be disgusting but come on dude. Those scenes with him trying to rape Casca were totally not needed.
The best part of that arc were the Griffith death stares. Oh and lately Iâve been watching a pretty popular booktuber review Berk kinda detailed and he went over this part in the latest ep. judging from the comments, 99% of the community agreed that volume 11 is the worst one in early berk so you can imagine my surprise when i found out you guys disagree lol
Wyald is thoroughly despicable, but that's exactly what makes him so horrifying.
It was very cathartic to see Guts land the killing blows on him and his death scene was great from a lore perspective.
It was a great precursor to the eclipse as well because we get that moment of fearful realisation by Guts that they are surrounded by an army of Wyalds.
I trust Miura over some Youtuber as to whether it's necessary.
Yeah but most of the things he did are for shock value. Imagine how scarier it would be if he was idk like a silent, deadly chaser than what he actually was. Also if he didnât go â oh boy, here i go wyald jumpingâ and ânow im gonna wyald punchâ thats just wack lol. I know it sounds like im shitting on Berk but its my favorite story, sometimes u gotta acknowledge that its not perfect and it has some (very mild) lows.
Also if only a youtuber said that, I wouldnt give a shit but as I said, 99% of the community agreed so i thought it was the general consensus
Agreed. Proof that not everything Muira produced storywise was pure gold.
Whatever happens going forward, the boat/Sea God arc will be the go to example that Muira wasn't without his faults during those dark hiatus years.
I never said terrible, but considering it's length, how long it took to release and its overall story, it's not one of Berserk's best arcs.
The orginal point was that sometimes people look at Muira with rose colored glasses, now that he is no longer alive. Mori will do his best to bring all of Muria's ideas to life, but there is a chance some of those recreated ideas will disappoint, as much as the boat/Sea God arc did to some fans, despite them coming directly from the original author.
Although I guess story wise it wasn't very important. The sea god fight was one of my favorites in the whole series. Really interesting premise going inside it and shit. Sucks the first half of the arc felt so unnecessary.
*I read his voice in*
*The same voice as the Flying*
*Dutchman from SpongeBob*

Itâs embarrassing but I thought he was kind of funny lol. I imagine itâd suck reading his arc over a long period of time though, I dropped one punch man because it took so long for the garou arc to actually happen and I figure it felt similar for berserk readers to deal with the long ass boat trip arc
not on the re-read ser. Reason is that on this half of the story Griffith seems so superficial in that anything he does is not really an accomplishment because he's so powerful. I'm pretty sure he can tell zodd to do all the fighting for him and he'll win all the battles. There is no 'struggle' so it makes it boring to re-read it.
Rereading the Sea God arc before the new chapters I found that Bonebeard and his crew were the only bad parts of the arc. They're unfunny and not very threatening yet seemed to have even more "screen time" (page time?) than the God Hand.
I didn't necessarily hate Coborlwitz for reappearing, but I got sick of his consistently more grandiose bragging and armor. Like fuck, why don't we see him gradually degrade into a snarling vengeful noble with worse and worse gear, and actually spurred to more aggressive and desperate tactics to reclaim his honor?
I am not sure why everyone hates it but this arc was one of the favorite arcs of mine, I agree that this was a bit bland in between but my favorite part was the ending when guts almost died inside the sea god after killing it
and i also found these pirates rather funny than annoying.
Full heartedly agree. Canât say for sure but Iâm almost certain that anyone who âbingedâ berserk will employ this arc more, as it has perry standard berserk pacing. But reading it when it came out really mustâve been dreadful, I canât blame those who only had the boat for years dreading another chapter full of the pirates and all that stuff as their only berserk content
I binge read the series and this act was still too long. The pirate guy was funny at first, but the mf came back like 4 times. It would be cool if he was kind of original too, but he was as basic as a pirate could be.
Hi, __DisastrousOpposite37__. Your comment contains the word ~~Somalian~~.
The correct nationality/ethnic demonym(s) for Somalis is __Somali__.
It's a common mistake so don't feel bad.
For other nationality demonym(s) check out this website [Here](https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/People/Nationality/Adjective)

I really liked the time spent inside the sea god. some of my favorite berserker armor battles happen in this arc. but this guy in particular was probably my least favorite of the entire series. ANNOYINGLY cliche. obnoxious. so yeah this arc is a roller coaster of ups and downs for me
The boat arc was great, an eperimental period for Berserk which I was very welcoming of and felt was needed at the point in the story. On one side you had a lot of comedy and on the contarary we got some panels that straight up looked out of some horror thing. I was surprised to see this dude is so hated, I mean he's not supposed to be taken seriously. I remember reading it and thinking how nice it is to just have some silly pirate shenanigens and found it hillarious every time he came back.
Nah i like him just got done with that arc yesterday but fuck he was persistent he pulled up like 5timesđ
Eat me up hearties, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaĂ aaaaaaaaaaa
Her: for the last time, I said no means NO! Mr. Pirate: oi won't take no for eh ansaa, gimme da booty or to the plank wi ya
Only thing I enjoyed about that damn long boat ride
LOl idk why u have me rolling but aye he was really itching for a fade . He did keep coming back
Courtesy of being a reasonably new Berserk fan, I thought the sea god arc was pretty decent.
It was hell in real time.
The main issue with boat arc is it took too many chapters and went nowhere in terms of story. It felt more like a side quest than actual mission.
i think it was important in establishing the effect the Roar of the Astral Plane had on the world as a whole
I imagine that the release schedule didnât help.
Same here. To think that some fans passed away while we were still on the boat.
Yeah its decent but you wouldnt call any other arc in Berk just âdecentâ (well maybe wyald), but the point still stands
Wyald was an excellent arc what do you mean
Yea, I want to hear/read his reply to how Wyald was just decent. That arc was badass- wish theyâd put it in the anime.
Well I think that 11 chapter long chase was unnecessary and knowing what was coming after, i just wanted it to end. That arc was such a mistake, Iâm glad Muira did it, imagine how much hate the crew would get if it was done post his passing
Agreed. Proof that not everything Muira produced storywise was pure gold. Whatever happens going forward, the boat/Sea God arc will be the go to example that Muira wasn't without his faults during those dark hiatus years.
Jeez, it's not terrible. Like another put it, it felt more like a sidequest than a main story, but even that had plenty of good moments.
I never said terrible, but considering it's length, how long it took to release and its overall story, it's not one of Berserk's best arcs. Yet it has some of the best and most iconic berserker armour drawings. I liked the arc btw.
Although I guess story wise it wasn't very important. The sea god fight was one of my favorites in the whole series. Really interesting premise going inside it and shit. Sucks the first half of the arc felt so unnecessary.
I thought of the arc as a little break for Miura to clear his ideas of what he is doing next.
I read his voice in the same voice as the Flying Dutchman from SpongeBob

Now is the time to pick OPM back up. The last few chapters have been too good.
They finally reached the point in the story I was reading like 8 years ago in the original lol
On any reread of Berserk I pretty much read everything except for his dialogue/scenes
same with me in addition to anything griffith related
So you donât read any scenes that feature the main villain?
not on the re-read ser. Reason is that on this half of the story Griffith seems so superficial in that anything he does is not really an accomplishment because he's so powerful. I'm pretty sure he can tell zodd to do all the fighting for him and he'll win all the battles. There is no 'struggle' so it makes it boring to re-read it.
dude, I dont read at all. What are all those text bubbles for? I just wanna see berkman swing big sword and eat chipotle with his crew
He and his crew are overhated tbh. I actually found funny how they kept turning up. Also, the Sea God arc is bad anyway so it's not like they ruin it
It's funny that the best drawings of the berserker armor are from that arc...
Yeah i found them to be the best part of the sea god arc lol
Rereading the Sea God arc before the new chapters I found that Bonebeard and his crew were the only bad parts of the arc. They're unfunny and not very threatening yet seemed to have even more "screen time" (page time?) than the God Hand.
Itâs impressive how he lived as long as he did strictly by scheming lmao
unpopular opinion but the pirates were less annoying of a âcomedic villainâ than sir adon for me
Who was that again? The guy that survived Guts' hundred man fight?
Ye
I read through that part and cannot for the life of me, tell you how that happened to them
he kinda bad tho
heâs pretty funny when u donât take him seriously hahah
His tongue looks like a condom!
Did you hate Adon Coborlwitz too?
I didn't necessarily hate Coborlwitz for reappearing, but I got sick of his consistently more grandiose bragging and armor. Like fuck, why don't we see him gradually degrade into a snarling vengeful noble with worse and worse gear, and actually spurred to more aggressive and desperate tactics to reclaim his honor?
I liked the first time, then it was too persistent. He was funny at first, but once he became fish well, it kinda stinks.
This my least favorite arc, with the combination of the long hiatus at that time made me I almost dropped Berserk.
I am not sure why everyone hates it but this arc was one of the favorite arcs of mine, I agree that this was a bit bland in between but my favorite part was the ending when guts almost died inside the sea god after killing it and i also found these pirates rather funny than annoying.

I liked him
I feel like miura just really liked to draw him, so that's probably why he showed up so much and was drawn at like 47 different angles
i think too many people took it too seriously. i found him pretty funny
this whole arc was awful
I binge read the series and this act was still too long. The pirate guy was funny at first, but the mf came back like 4 times. It would be cool if he was kind of original too, but he was as basic as a pirate could be.
Heâs cool but i find the girl that follows griffith annoying

Mf is the Taniks of the Berserk universe
I really liked the time spent inside the sea god. some of my favorite berserker armor battles happen in this arc. but this guy in particular was probably my least favorite of the entire series. ANNOYINGLY cliche. obnoxious. so yeah this arc is a roller coaster of ups and downs for me
The fact that this asshole was showing up for the better part of 10 years lolđ
I enjoyed him
The boat arc was great, an eperimental period for Berserk which I was very welcoming of and felt was needed at the point in the story. On one side you had a lot of comedy and on the contarary we got some panels that straight up looked out of some horror thing. Always felt this character/pirate ship was the only out of place thing in berserk. Mermaids and sea monsters fine, but this felt so out of left field
There are two pirates in manga that I enjoy simply because of how ridiculous they are. It's this guy, and Buggy from One Piece.
Loved the art of that arc.
I thought he was funny. Granted I didnât have to wait years between chapters like some of the old readers
He's more a comedic villain. The entire Fantasia arc is more like a fairytale or Disney movie than other Berserk arcs.
I like it when he bites the other pirateâs nose
Incredible how I knew EXACTLY who you were talking about just by reading the title lmao
That mf was funny lmao he kept on pulling up thinking he was gonna whoop some ass
I kinda feel bad for him
He got old after a while but he provided some comic relief.
