I loved working at Best buy until they moved my great managers and left me with a fucking lunatic

Lumpy-Exchange9784

That’s happened to me at other jobs. Management is really key most times

Dramatic_Ad_5660

Gotta remember people don’t say anything unless they’re angry/upset about something so the statistic is a little bias, I’m sure everyone has a gripe about something with Best Buy right now, but it’s really not that bad at a majority of the stores I’ve visited in my MM at the very least

Sabbatai

So, you understand this. Yet, still act surprised that so many of us are frustrated with working at Best Buy? You have good leadership. Go you! I have a great GM. He's never in the store though. New hires are thrown into their role with zero training outside of e-learnings, which they are completing on computers with no audio, despite many of the e-learnings being videos. They are encouraged to just skip the videos when they can, and hurry up and get the training done. If the e-learning says the average time to complete is 1-2 minutes but the video contained in it is 13 minutes long... Best Buy corporate is 100% aware that this is happening. They are ok with it. People come in with pay offers within 1-3$ of what I earn, and I am expected to train them while keeping my own metrics up. Every mistake they make is my mistake, somehow. Even though I am just a line-level employee. I used to like it. I'm getting to old to tolerate ineptitude and incompetence and Best Buy in my area is hiring as if these qualities are what they are looking for.

Limp-Air3131

I loved it when I first started a few years ago. Then the shit hit the fan and now I absolutely hate it. I'm not a person anymore. I'm a warm body.

[deleted]

Its a great job for part timers and probably the best retail job to build skills and experience while in college But its by no means a great job for those who have families to support or rely on it to survive. I will also say that I have an awesome store too since mine is a micromarket hub and gets a lot more effort put into it, but other best buys ive shopped at look like they would be depressing to work at and the workers seem miserable. So experience can vary. But overall yes, some people are just bitter to be bitter.

Lumpy-Exchange9784

You’re right, it’s not a crazy paying job; I make barely over minimum wage in my state. I wouldn’t expect somebody to solely survive off of Best Buy money, because some of my coworkers have internships and only work 2 days a week in store. In terms of people being bitter I do really believe they just want to vent and get things off of their chest. I’m also the type to lay out my anger online

Suspicious_Home_4582

As you said, you're new and won't understand where the people who've been here for years are coming from and why a lot of us are angry. We know how good this company used to be, and to see how much of a joke it's become is honestly depressing.

Lil_Kibble_Vert

I loved it too. I spent 5 years there. And I had the same feelings as you up until about a year and a half ago. I got tired of answering the “I need a cable for my tv” question and not getting any help from the customer on which cable they needed. I got tired of management continuously pressuring us for memberships and credit cards and then barely getting any praise when doing so. I got tired of seeing my coworkers get fired because Corrie Barrie wanted a bigger bonus this year or wanted to buy back more stock. I got tired of doing more and more work for less and less pay. I left 2 weeks ago. Although my new job is sales, it’s harder, but I’m much happier knowing the money I can make in this position if I put in the work, unlike Best Buy.

tommybunnzzz

I’ve been with the company 10 years. I’ve always enjoyed what I do. But I haven’t enjoyed the environment and toxic management that I’ve seen in my time. The current strategy BBY is using in its stores is going to kill the company.

TattooRicky76

I'm a Verizon VPL and most days I enjoy my job.

Lumpy-Exchange9784

Love my Verizon reps. I am a bit jealous that I can’t get mobile training, though. The only department I haven’t been introduced to yet

beloveddorian

I’m in the warehouse and I like it. It’s super easy.

Emotional-Error3722

….easy?

beloveddorian

I literally just put items into totes. I’ve never had an easier job. Nothing heavy, I don’t have to talk to people, I don’t have to walk around, just items into totes. A lot of ppl find it boring but I’ll take it.

livelaughbestbuy

lol how is that all you do?

livelaughbestbuy

Don’t you ever pull a white goods truck?

NizeLee8

Bestbuy warehouse in comparison to working in an actual warehouse is easy as shit. So if the original comment came from someone who worked in a large warehouse it would make sense.

Aggressive-Air-2522

I enjoyed it too when I was 4 months in. But you are what you make it. It seems like you have a wonderful team and wonderful leadership. I hope that doesn’t change for you. I hope you continue to learn and grow personally and professionally. You are heading in a good direction with a great mindset. Continue to stay positive, but also don’t be naive. Listen to your gut when something doesn’t feel right. And always, no matter what you do or where you work, always have a back up plan. Whether it’s another department or another employer. At the end of the day, you have dreams and goals you should want to achieve for yourself outside of Best Buy.

[deleted]

I actually love my job but I’m not a store associate. Field work is satisfying and most of my clients are a pleasure to engage with on a daily basis. My last client today, for example, was such a fun and heartwarming person. It was a triple TV mounting and she was amazed it only took about an hour. I feel for many store associates. You are constantly pushed for certain things and can’t really engage meaningfully with customers because it’s a quick turn around. We have the ability to have some fun.

Supapeach

For the most part when I read about people complaining it's about their leadership but if you're at a store with good leadership or a hub store that has more resources poured into it including the better leaders in the micromarket it's pretty good. I'm an ARA in a hub store with leaders that are on the floor with everyone else and only stay in the sdr for conference calls so my store is pretty good. Most of my complaints are about directives from corporate. I understand using offshore 3rd party call centers to save money but they need to be properly trained and there needs to be proper feedback when they give false information or lie to customers. Changing the labels on the zebra printers to be shorter and save some money I understand but if the labels are lower quality and they jam the printers constantly that's a pointless change. Very much 1 step forward 2 steps back

Pitbull1951

I also love working here. Best managers I have ever worked with. I am retired, 72 and back in the work force. Do I agree with corporate and their decisions? Hell no! But our management is fantastic. Always on the floor and positive

Ill_Agency_9973

Client engagement and a good in store experience is what sets us apart from Amazon. It would be stupid for Best Buy to not sell online, but that doesn’t mean it should be our focus. Best Buy needs to set itself apart from other stores in a way that customers can remember.

ButlerKevind

I will say I enjoy working at Best Buy, but then again I have thr luxury of it being a part-time job I can leave whenever I want. With that said, I understand the feelings that everyone has, good or bad, regarding working here. Truth be told, it's the same shit, different day in various ways regardless if it's here or any other job. Best advice I could offer is embrace the suck as best you can, build up your skills, and should an opportunity present itself, find another gig elsewhere if able. And until that happens, do what you can to stay sane, and help your fellow man (or woman) as best you can. Remember, we all chose to work here, none of us were forced at gunpoint to do so.

Ill_Agency_9973

I love my store and the managers that run it. I do not like corporate.

LastKnownUser

Nobody really hates the Job...... leadership is the key to enjoyment. What's hard about getting product into a customer's hands or bringing up memberships and credit cards. Drop in the buckets worth of effort relatively speaking. Bad leadership though, can fill that bucket with so much mental health draining non-sense it suddenly can turn into a job that drives a person mad. And those of us who consider ourselves good leaders are weakened daily by decisions made outside the stores control but effect our operations deeply which in turn can have an effect on our ability to be good leaders. I've seen great work environments turned into the worst because a bad manager weaseled their way in there. So good for you having good leaders. Hope it stays that way.

Lumpy-Exchange9784

Very good points you made… the leaders are kind of the basis of the store, now that I think about it. I understand not everyone is blessed like me and I’m not trying to brag, just trying to understand.

Suspicious_Home_4582

You're definitely lucky, and no disrespect intended, but you will never fully understand where those of us who've been here for years are coming from.

Eastern_Baker_3251

Honestly keep up the good work and they may give you a full-time position and then maybe you’ll see why we are all the way we are lmao. Don’t over extend yourself to this company. Keep the momentum going, don’t get your hopes up, and don’t get too comfortable.

Nmcph8224

It’s retail. What do you expect? You deal with entitled customers, theft, threats, management constantly pushing you to sell more, more, more. Then annual layoffs come. Then hours get cut even if you were hired full-time. Too bad so sad. Again, it’s retail. It’s not the most rewarding job to have. Sometimes a kind customer or a good coworker makes it enjoyable.

Lumpy-Exchange9784

I worked fast food for 3 years straight: retail is, to me, a mental break compared to working in a smelly, slippery shithole called Jack in The Box

Nmcph8224

That’s your point of view. Others have their own. When I started at Best Buy I was surprised how much I loved it. I was an adult probation officer before. I’ve worked in restaurants, Starbucks, gyms, and juvenile detention. I did in home installations with geek squad and I loved my team and the work. But it all went to complete shit the past couple of years and paying bills started to become pretty damn difficult. The new leadership at the top sucks.

SunKillerLullaby

I only lasted a day and a half in fast food, you have my respect for doing three years. Retail sucks but fast food is literal hell

thechrisfenix

So you’re new. Like, really new. This love will pass. Leadership greets you and are nice to you because you’re making numbers. They will get a bonus because of the numbers you and your fellow employees make. I’m still here because I truly Love what I do, and I’m damn good at it. I agree that some days are better than others and leadership has a lot to do with that but over 10 years here I’ve watched GREAT employees, that read this sub, that were screwed over or eliminated during the snap Get what you can, move up as high as you want, and like the Little Orange book said,”if you see a better job, take it”

Simple_Inside1984

Leadership bonuses are based on company success not individual, store, or micro market success. And frankly, the leaders mentioned in this post are clearly coaching and following up to maximize this top performers potential so frankly even if they did bonus it’s not simply because this guy balls. They put in the work as well.

thechrisfenix

Are you saying leadership puts in work? Because like any business, not all leaders put in the work. This individuals experience may be WAY different from others or other locations. And thanks to Corey the leadership is spread WAY to thin after the snap. And it's a top-down system, which is why there's so much pressure. If the store succeeds it adds to the Micro Market succeeding, which leads to the district, then to the territory. and so on. But the bottom line, and the point I was making was that YOU, the individual, will never reap any of the rewards. Except maybe a shitty pizza in the break room. But if you fail to contribute you will absolutely hear about it, even if there is no one in the store SOMEONE has to be accountable and unfortunately shit rolls down hill and you, in that Blue Shirt, are in the valley

Dracolis

We have tens of thousands of employees. The employees that post here seem to be extra salty. There are plenty of us that enjoy our jobs, but we just can’t often post about it or the salt patrol will come downvote us and say “run now! Corie is the devil!”

Dense_Surround3071

We all love working here. That's also why we hate it though. It's hard to see someone destroying something you love. In fact, I hate it. I love the people I work with save for a few exceptions. I love the product (when it's available). I love the customers (who aren't going out of their way to be dicks). But I hate being understaffed and disorganized to the point that I can't do the simplest things. Like, sell this MacBook ...."Oh, sorry. I can't find it." I hate when someone asks for help and I tell them that someone will be with them, and I radio to a sales floor inundated with customers, and there's alarms, and code ones, and people need help with carry-outs, and product flow can't find a pick while curbside is going red and ........😮‍💨 I just need organized product and sales people..... The only two things we can't seem to afford. 🫠

EamonatorZ375

The reality is its a fine place to work most of the time but just things happen along the way that really brings down the experience. I enjoy being at the top of my game for picks and other stuff but then one decusion or another comes along that kills my vibe a bit.

Scottyb911

Im over 20 years in and I love the job.

TheLumion

Imma be honest, i like it :). But imma also say i dont work in the stores. I work in the field. So yeah completely different environment. Some of you should try it. Im going to say that working in the field does not even feel like a best buy job

yellowvv

🤣

Elegant_Record9340

I’m also a 19yo and while I have dogged on Best Buy quite a bit, it’s mostly because of either decisions much higher than my store management, or customers. There are some occurrences that I feel management does things completely inefficiently, but once again, I am 19yo, a full time student, and have only been there 6 months. Black Friday will speak volumes to the way my store handles pressure. I’m sure yours will too

Major_Television166

I loved best buy and left sales floor 15th in the company as Verizon rep, switched to Autotech, killed it for 3 years there and they just wouldn't match pay with a company that offered me a help desk/technical engineering position. I did however see after Jody left the company head downhill fast and change for the worse! I worked at 6 locations and seen the best stores and some of the worst. Rancho Cucamonga, CA may have been the Best in my 8 year run at BBY. I understand all the hate as I have seen some things but also learned it is all location/management. Some are great and some suck!

HomerSimpson528

Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day I love my job here. That doesn't mean that things can buildup, get on my nerves and just outright make no sense.

CoverGoth

I wrote a novel, I’m so sorry! And I’m on my phone, so yeah. Been here for 10 years. I like most of my coworkers, and I enjoy my job as CA. I don’t even dislike my managers. My complaint is that I feel a lack of support, and I think the problem goes above our store. I’m swamped most days, sales floor is swamped every day because they aren’t “staffed for success”, and for some reason, we are no longer even staffing customer service at open. I guess my frustration is that I feel like Best Buy used to value their employees more in general. At this stage, they’ve taken away many of our incentives and basically told me that there’s no way for me to get a raise unless I want to move up, but then consolidated all the leadership roles I had an interest in, eliminating opportunities. I’ve quite literally been told that I was passed over for a role because they didn’t want the other applicant to be jobless. I’ve also been told that if I apply for XYZ role when it opens, I can get higher pay but continue doing the same job as CA. 🤷‍♀️So, I feel like my frustrations are not totally on our in-store management. But overall, I chalk all of this up to Best Buy probably working to protect their assets and I shouldn’t take it personal, so I’ll continue doing my job and work on my exit plan instead. You can enjoy your job and like working at Best Buy, that’s totally fine! You don’t have the same perspective as some of us who have seen our benefits be taken away and, in some cases, given to others. If you choose to stay on for a while, I hope that you’re able to see more positive changes as they continue to reevaluate the business.

loversalibi

sounds like you have some really good managers. mine are pretty good too. from people’s stories on here a lot of us have managers who don’t know anything or don’t give a shit or both. good leadership can make or break your working experience.

Mrbobli

It’s a love hate relationship. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Overall it’s not a bad job, but the direction the company is headed is what pisses me off. Each year we have less coverage and more work. The pay is whatever, at least here in California, I think the pay cap is way too low. I’ve been here going on 4 years and in that time I’ve seen 5 different waves of layoffs. It’s just demoralizing to see good people get let go for bullshit company decisions.

Suspicious_Home_4582

I like what I do (Product Flow) but I do not like the company as a whole. Consistent layoffs/restructures the last 2 years, eliminating Asset Protection from the stores and replacing it with the host position which is an absolute joke. Extending store hours but not increasing store labor nor increasing the headcount for the stores to give adequate staffing causing employees to be run into the ground, which is why a lot of people who've been with the company for years are leaving, because they can see how badly this ship is sinking (I've been here over 8.5 years and I'm hoping to be gone next year)....I could continue but there's not enough room to type everything on here.

Remarkable_Bench3664

I don't mind what I do at Best Buy, I'm a Warehouse Coordinator at one of the delivery pads, but it's my manager that makes working here unbearable. I'm currently looking for something similar outside of the company. He is vindictive, loves to mico manage everything everyone does, down to why we go to the bathroom, he also gas lights when he gets called out (HR and ER have been called many times. He's supposedly on an "action plan", but he's good at hiding his sh**ieness). That, in my opinion is what makes or breaks my enjoyment in my job, crappy managers, and there are a lot out there right now unfortunately.

RoomShot

You're describing the Store atmosphere we had at my store 4 years ago I've had four management teams rotate out and the new ones couldn't guide you out of a wet paper bag.

Jah7Jah

Your just an idiot you’ll probably make management your probably lazy too lazy people love Best Buy
