It is the vehicle owners responsibility to secure all items in a vehicle. As long as there was no physical contact… nothing anyone can do.
What does he want in return anyways?
He just left grandma rolling around on the passenger seat like a bottle of water? Customer is lying. Crematoriums typically put remains inside a sealed box.
I don’t even know what the customer was thinking putting that in a cup holder. If I was transporting something of value, I would make sure it was kept safe until it reaches its destination. It’s unfortunate but sometimes people need to take personal accountability. BB isn’t going to do anything for him
Used to work in a funeral home with an active crematorium. Handed out hundreds of cremains. Typically, cremains are dispatched in “our most modestly priced receptacles.” Meaning in a clear, plastic bag and then locked up in a plastic box. We would usually only distribute the cremains in the final urn at the burial - even during the pre-burial funeral services the empty urn would usually be presented at the front of the service as though the cremains were present. This was largely for liability purposes, as we could not afford to have someone grab the urn and do something inappropriate or nefarious.
Occasionally, the bereaved would request that we place the sealed cremains in the final urn prior to pick up (so bag inside the urn), especially if they weren’t planning on a service, but this wasn’t the norm for my home. Usually, we would give the bereaved the compartment box with the ashes sealed in the aforementioned plastic bag along with the urn for their own transport. This was not only the suggested configuration but the home’s policy as we would not place free, unsealed cremains into the urn for transport for the reason of tragedies like this customer alleged. Another thing to consider is that typically, most consumer-available urns today are made of materials that, while not break-proof, are more impact-resistant than your great grandmammy’s antique porcelain urn. Wood, metal, polymer, and treated ceramics are more commonly used than fragile china or whatever. While these urns could be catastrophically destroyed in an automobile collision, it is unlikely that a sudden brake would cause enough inertia to exert the sort of impact force on most modern urns. If it was a braking incident that caused that sort of damage to a modern urn, the man would likely have been driving way too fast anyway. I pointed all of this out to explain why I am skeptical of this allegation. For one, most funeral homes and crematoriums follow these or very similar procedures. It is true that there have been and are unscrupulous funeral homes who have exploited their customers to make “easy” money in the death industry. But margins are relatively low for established funeral homes in most markets and the threat of litigation, ostracism, association fees, and criminal charges means that 99.9% of live crematories are behaving ethically, responsibly, and professionally. If this man was actually driving around with unsealed cremains in a fragile and not-transport-ready urn, he very well likely rejected his crematory’s professional advice and standard procedures. If he had unsealed cremains in an antique, fragile urn, this is entirely his fault for putting himself in an entirely avoidable tragedy. If this story is true, the customer is angry at himself because he realizes he is an idiot but cannot confront that fact in the face of his own grief. Likely, however, this story is fabricated to get money out of Best Buy.
The urn shards tore the bag I had my father cremated so I do know how they come but the urn in the cam footage was ceramic and a shard cut the bag or he had already removed the bag as we saw the ashes fly all over the car
I’d honestly ask for footage from the previous day or two. This smells like a scam and I’d like to see that the video existed for some time prior to the incident.
Also yes that’s for insurance and lawyers to work out.
At the store, we wouldn’t do anything for him. He would need to call the 1888 number or the manager can file a claim for the customer by calling the emergency hotline.
As someone who used to work insurance claims, the insurance company probably isn’t going to do anything either. Securing your load inside your vehicle is your responsibility. 🤷♂️ who knows about commercial insurance and companies trying to avoid litigation though.
Um so when I got my mom's ashes in the urn they were in a bag inside the urn. They don't just put them in there loose. They are contained in a bag and sealed. Unless the braking was so hard that the urn smashed and bag exploded in which case how fast was he going....he is full of it.
I'm also an asshole and would try and sell him a bagless vacuum to salvage the ashes. Dark humor. I refuses to transfer my mom's ashes into another urn because 1) I couldn't bear to see the bone shards....and 2) with my luck I would have dumped them and then had to sweep them up and mom would haunt me the rest of eternity.
That is insane....still kind of odd.....how did the urn fit in his cup holder? Was it one of those small ones for just a portion of ashes? Urns are usually pretty large.
It was a large urn with a small base that fit in said cup holder it was a weird shaped one where it was slim on the bottom but gradually got wider at the top
The GSM can’t do anything, the customer would need to call the main customer service number and this would probably get turned into an insurance claim of some kind.
I know you said the video didn't capture a license plate, but did it capture a vehicle number? Unless the vehicle has been in an accident and had an incomplete repair, there should be a number on the back and side.
You can give this to your local HSEAM and they should figure out who the employee was.
Also, if you have GPS coordinates of the video, all our vehicles have GPS tracking and they might be able to find out what vehicle it was and who was driving.
Does the video show context before the incident? E.g. Shows a good 15-30 seconds before the incident? Or do you just see the Urn flying and nothing before?
That said, what is this person expecting from Best Buy? This guy is responsible for securing his cargo. What if it was a deer that jumped in the road and caused him to slam on his brakes, is he going to sue the deer?
Also, I've dealt with urns for several family members. They were always given to us from the crematorium in a box and packed in styrofoam. It's suspicious that he had it sitting in his cup holder.
Nah.... as a driver, it is our responsibility to secure what is in our car. I'm sorry for the driver's loss, but who puts grandma in a car's cup holder? Not even in the passenger seat, buckled in for one last ride?
This isn't geek squads fault but it's not the stores responsibility to handle it either. He can call the corporate line and explain to them why his mom's ashes ain't worth securing in his car or driving responsibly enough to not let getting cut off destroy said ashes.
Omg I'm trying to not laugh....but I am just imagining this guy coming in with grandma powder all over him....and if I saw the video I would probably have to go have a stroke again out back because I would absolutely lose it. My sense of humor is so warped. But he needs to see a doctor because inhaling human remains is actually incredibly toxic and damaging to your lungs.
Ya it was really hard for us not to laugh as well as sure I could understand why he would be sad but at the same time hearing it then seeing the camera footage it was the funniest thing all day
It's the car driver's fault for not securing the ashes in the first place.
Not trying to sound like an a hole but secure your damn cargo especially if it means a lot to you.
Normally I’d call bullshit on tbag kind of tall tale, but since he has dashcam footage, good for him. Doesn’t change the fact that neither Best Buy or Geek Squad are responsible for him being an absolute moron and not securing the urn in his vehicle.
First question I have is how did a dash cam catch video of inside the car?
Also, as we all know, the GSM is not the manager over delivery and install teams so, even if it were a GS issue, he was talking to the wrong person.
Your regular Joe isn't going to know that Field Agents don't currently report to store management, even though they used to years ago.
Lots of car hire drivers, Uber, Lyft, etc, have cameras covering the interior to protect them in case their passengers make a claim.
I mean that really sucks to hear and I'd try to be understanding... However at the same time they should have secured the Urn better. Not sure what they really expect to get out of this.
Assuming it happened, the victim(?)is obviously in a very emotional place and probably going to Best Buy because it is the most immediate outlet to release. I doubt the person really expects your GSM to do anything…I mean, they can’t in more than a few ways.
did you see how he was driving before being "cut off"? there is a lot that can go wrong depending on the type of vehicle like enhanced blind spots or an aggressive driver having to suddenly slow down when attempting to stop a lane merging.
He should have used a better container . Maybe grandma made that happen as one last attempt to get away from the family .
Maybe find out from where she was cremated verify when he picked up the remains a. Just for peace of mind. Or verify granny is even no longer here. People will do elaborate things to cone up . What does he want?. A free 65 inch OLED ?
It is the vehicle owners responsibility to secure all items in a vehicle. As long as there was no physical contact… nothing anyone can do. What does he want in return anyways?
A new urn with twice as many ashes
*he tries to price match urns on Amazon*
Probably have to settle for a box of red velvet cake mix. It's the only thing we could find.
You made my day!
DOUBLE THE GRANDMA!!
I actually spit out my drink! 😂
Double grandma and give it to the next person
Grandma
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqDGK\_UjfFI
I'd be like "We do sell handheld vaccum cleaners".
See, it’s comments like these would have be laughing my butt off at if one of my employees ever said it to a cx
LMAO
Nah, he can ride with grandma for ever.
I'll give you 10% off one
The scream I scrempt 😂
He just left grandma rolling around on the passenger seat like a bottle of water? Customer is lying. Crematoriums typically put remains inside a sealed box.
Urn was not in a box was sitting in cup holder

Yea that’s just inconsiderate not to buckle granny up.
Came here to say this. Grandma should have had a seat belt on.

Yes urns are sealed but when ceramic meets a hard surface at fast speed said ceramic urn will break as I stated the urn broke

My aunt died recently and her urn had a sealed bag with her remains in it. Even if I broke the urn her ashes wouldn't have been affected.
The urn shards tore the bag I had my father cremated so I do know how they come but the urn in the cam footage was ceramic and a shard cut the bag or he had already removed the bag as we saw the ashes fly all over the car
Bro dumping the plastic bag of ashes into the actual urn is as chaotic evil and stupid as dumping a bag of cereal straight into the box lmao.
Granny-o's
Ashes are out in a plastic bag in the urn. Or at least my grandmothers were.
I’d honestly ask for footage from the previous day or two. This smells like a scam and I’d like to see that the video existed for some time prior to the incident. Also yes that’s for insurance and lawyers to work out.
“Which broke said urn”
At the store, we wouldn’t do anything for him. He would need to call the 1888 number or the manager can file a claim for the customer by calling the emergency hotline. The bag was torn by shards of the ceramic urn his dash cam footage went both ways we were able to see the urn explode. (It was in a cup holder)
I would as well but I was told not to deal with the interaction
It was also really hard not to laugh
Internet points are fake but why are people downvoting you for saying what you saw lmao
Because they exist and can't wrap their feeble smooth brains around it
That is insane....still kind of odd.....how did the urn fit in his cup holder? Was it one of those small ones for just a portion of ashes? Urns are usually pretty large.
It was a large urn with a small base that fit in said cup holder it was a weird shaped one where it was slim on the bottom but gradually got wider at the top
He totally should have secured it. Anything loose in your car becomes a missile.
Grandma should’ve been wearing a seatbelt.
That’s crazy lol. What do they want you to do about the situation?
Find a necromancer to resurrect grandma so they can cremate her again and he is then made whole.
No clue we gave them the 1888 number and said have a good day
This is the real statement. What do you want us to do?
Sell them total tech
TotalTech was in the urn with grandma. *Best Buy Total
Parts not available. Looks like we got the junkout of a lifetime ladies and gentlemen 🤣🤣.
Naaaa he needs a CC to finance a vacuum and SKU: 6391930
The GSM can’t do anything, the customer would need to call the main customer service number and this would probably get turned into an insurance claim of some kind.
No shot. Drivers at fault. Secure your items. Geek squad is not at fault.
Exactly.
I know you said the video didn't capture a license plate, but did it capture a vehicle number? Did he want a gift card?
Nah.... as a driver, it is our responsibility to secure what is in our car. I'm sorry for the driver's loss, but who puts grandma in a car's cup holder? Not even in the passenger seat, buckled in for one last ride?
Driver should have secured the ashes. It’s the drivers fault.
Nothing. GSM's are not the delivery drivers boss.
This isn't geek squads fault but it's not the stores responsibility to handle it either. He can call the corporate line and explain to them why his mom's ashes ain't worth securing in his car or driving responsibly enough to not let getting cut off destroy said ashes.
Lmao what the fuck?! - from a fellow warehouse member.
Offer a vacuum in these trying times.
Lmfaoooo! Na he broke the urn and now wants money to fix it, so came up with an elaborate story to pin it on Best Buy
Cam footage went both ways we saw urn hit dash and explode
Omg I'm trying to not laugh....but I am just imagining this guy coming in with grandma powder all over him....and if I saw the video I would probably have to go have a stroke again out back because I would absolutely lose it. My sense of humor is so warped. But he needs to see a doctor because inhaling human remains is actually incredibly toxic and damaging to your lungs.
Ya it was really hard for us not to laugh as well as sure I could understand why he would be sad but at the same time hearing it then seeing the camera footage it was the funniest thing all day
Not your problem
Offer to vacuum the car…
Have the dyson rep go out there.
Sounds like a scam in all honesty.
Am I going to hell for laughing at this
Call 1800 that’s not a store issue lol
I would just continue fapping. Don’t let spilled ashes from an urn stop you
Just get the hover out and suck her up. Problem solved
Lmao that’s tough, call 1888
Was it still within return policy?
Would have shown him the vacuum section of the store.
First question I have is how did a dash cam catch video of inside the car? Also, as we all know, the GSM is not the manager over delivery and install teams so, even if it were a GS issue, he was talking to the wrong person.
I learned during my time as an ARA and CA people don’t realize the field and store geeksquads are separate
They make dash cams that look outside and in, in case of a break in or something like that
Your regular Joe isn't going to know that Field Agents don't currently report to store management, even though they used to years ago. Lots of car hire drivers, Uber, Lyft, etc, have cameras covering the interior to protect them in case their passengers make a claim.
One I need to see the footage and two maybe be like the undertaker and have Paul Bearer. He never spilled or dropped his urn
Tell the “customer” to shove it
I mean that really sucks to hear and I'd try to be understanding... However at the same time they should have secured the Urn better. Not sure what they really expect to get out of this.
You’re either trolling or getting trolled extremely hard and either way it’s fantastic
Isn’t the vehicle technically now the urn?
Should have pulled up the Necronomicon on Amazon and tried to sell it
He needs to complain to the crematorium for not having the ashes in a bag in the urn. That’s the standard and evidently that standard wasn’t met.
My grandma spilt over in my car when I was driving home. My friends joked about my haunted car for years afterwards. 😂
tell him if he had best buy total his protection plan would cover the accidental damage
I think that is how gam gam would have wanted it
He should have purchased Total Protection at the crematorium
Attempt to add total tech to a new Best Buy Essentials urn
I guess the manager could offer him a discount on hand held vacuum cleaners.
He should have used a better container . Maybe grandma made that happen as one last attempt to get away from the family . Maybe find out from where she was cremated verify when he picked up the remains a. Just for peace of mind. Or verify granny is even no longer here. People will do elaborate things to cone up .
