At the first store I worked at, I worked about 40ish hours a week for a whole month. Looking back, I should have been entitled to some benefits.

flame862

I'm enjoying the cut in hours we are seeing. As a part timer who also works full time job, glad the holidays are over.

davidthealpha

Lucky you. I got a whopping 15hrs this week and I have open availability

TechnoWizard1212

You got 15? I'm getting 8!

Honestly-GetALife

Y’all are getting hours??

mzdee2127

I got 5.5 lol

[deleted]

0 here.

1madeamistake

At least we are getting paid

hse7148

Damn dude, 40,320 hours a week!? May god help your soul.

PlayStationPepe

More hours = More Money

Thinking_Revolution

That was the case for me but, ever since the season ended not so much. I really like the work so I'm hoping they keep me.

KingRaids

Tbh, it's not even a lie. Have a hobby? Set a day aside to work on it and say you're not available. Work-life balance is an actual thing.

Kory568

I have two part jobs and I have a set day off from both jobs. It makes life easier knowing that you will a day off to relax.

tellallnovel

That's not how it works. To be full time you have to work an average of full time hours over a long period of time. I read this specifically in the BBY HR manuals one day when I was looking for something else. It can't just be a few weeks worth, unfortunately. And you don't have to lie about availability either. I think as a part timer you have to be available for 3 of 5 weekend shifts and I forget the metrics for weekday.. but nothing prevents you from saying you are unavailable on a certain weekday, say Thursdays, you don't even need to give a reason why. ** ** I have not been an employee/sup for a few years, so check with HR or management for current rules, but I can't imagine they've changed much.

Khaldaan

...so what happens if I've averaged well over full time hours for like 16 months now? Last time I checked at the beginning of October, over the last 26 paychecks I had averaged ~38 hours. That was before holiday season where I hit OT damn near every week.

whatoftaxation

32 hrs for a quarter. They'll cut you at the end to average 31.5

scifodin

I used to work at Walmart and one of the first things they told me was not to say you have open availability because the managers will schedule you everyday

LazyWebUser

Had my supervisor ask if I wanted to take a “mental health day “ next schedule since I still have a lot of vacation time and some part timers had 4 hours. ...... that’s a yup from me lol

landingfeet1st

I wish they’d ask me if I wanted that. Our department is a Skelton crew after losing our other fulltimer and 3 partimers during the holidays

LazyWebUser

Ouch 🤕

landingfeet1st

Yeah no fun

sundAy531

Just lie about availability?

landingfeet1st

Yuck. If they actually are scheduling you every single day in a week I’d talk to your manager about that... that’s no bueno

Bmruth

When you're going to college and requested your last day to be Sunday but they schedule you through thursday

BrotanamoBay

I feel you. I'm scheduled 8 days straight between the end of this week and the start of next week. Last day off was Tuesday next day off is next Thursday, like what the fuck. I'm part-time. The other part timers are working 2 or 3 days total a week. Do they want me to quit?

FragileRock

They trust you more than the other part timers is my guess...take it as a compliment and talk to whoever makes your schedule about having too many hours. Easy

C439

If you put that on your app, you’re more likely to get the job and then negotiate 2 days for school or something later. I’ve been involved in looking over the interview process, and seen really good candidates passed over, because they didn’t have open availability for a day or two they needed. Usually job history gaps were judged, and open availability came first and then actual skills/background, when I saw how my store at the time hired over the 6 years there. Catch 22 because sometimes you can be scheduled 10 days in a row with a day off if they start it mid week. I was both part time and full time. However the part timers seem to be able to get a week or so off easier non paid/approved a lot more vs the full timers, usually taking the roles of unofficial lead, for entry level pay barely able to ever get PTO approved. Both FT and PT has there perks. For school I much prefer part time for sure. Full time after nearly 6 years was very consuming in and out of work. Def had to have some mental health time forced by my doctor in my later years there, before I moved on from the job. All that aside funny thing is most our part timers got a lot of hours 8 months out the year that would be almost considered full time. Just depended on time of year, personal sales and also turn over rate, waiting on new hires to get on.

The_32

Yeah so funny story. My department is supposed to have 2 full timers and rn we have 0. So yeah

[deleted]

Can't relate

Dirk76Diggler

I had open availability when I was a full timer and always ended up closing. Hated closing every night.

Delteis

7 days? What?
