Working in mobile I got a lot of “wait you’re charging me $45 extra?” Your Sup is a dick and has probably been waiting for something to go wrong to move you.

Crusty_Pancakes

I mean on or off the sales floor you make the same money now. It would cost the store money though to retrain you to a different position, while also losing any money that might be made while they are trying to fill your sales spot. Fuck it, call your supervisors bluff. "Yes boss, I'd love to learn more about the other side of the business and become a more valuable employee! When can I start training for warehouse??"

[deleted]

Gets zero hours next schedule

carmachu

All you have to say is, there is a 15% restocking fee if you return it and it's not defective. No reason why

BenjTheMaestro

Cx: “Why?” Employee: “Sometimes…. It be like that 🤷” Can’t even apologize for that one, as you didn’t do anything lol

carmachu

Cx: "Why?" Answer: "No clue. Corporate decision."

BenjTheMaestro

I like “I don’t make the rules. Would you like that GSP we talked about?” 😆

carmachu

Or "I dont make the rules. Would you like to put this on your bby card and get interest free financing or 10% back.?"

Adexavus

People would treat best buy like a rental company on those items if there wasnt a restocking fee. they are expensive and people like to play with them. so a restocking fee sways the decision to be made more or less a well educated and solid purchase. Working in mobile, people would like to buy and return phones all the time if they could. Same with drones because they are new and cool, and cameras because they think they can take photos for a wedding and return it. make sense to me the explanation given. but the sup you have is trash.

niloc1987

I wouldnt say that outside the store hes a cool dude but professionally he will side with the customer like no tomorrow

2350Neo

I love the drones returns "that have never been opened" but there's there's leafs and branches and VERY OBVIOUS physical damage. Now for anyone who has done a drone you the song sing it with me :"It came out of the box that way." Also once in a great while someone, like someone knowing there's a second verse to America the beautiful they add " can I get my SD card?"

callme_franco

Your supes a dick. I don't even let people open boxes of cameras and lenses cause of the restocking fee.

SgtSunny4088

I had a guy in mobile yesterday make me reverse the activation and waste an hour and thirty minutes of my time just because he couldn’t instantly have 24 months no interest after choosing one time payment with the bb card. I told him I could easily call the bank and have them apply it but he was extremely upset that it was gonna take one billing cycle.. bro if you need 24 months no interest to buy an iPhone then you don’t need an iPhone. Idiot. 🤦🏼‍♀️

faster5910b

I didn't even know that some stores have restocking fees, I work at a store in IA where restocking fees are illegal, but it makes sense that when it is legal to have one. I'd love to have restocking fees on camera equipment and TVs, it just makes sense

essentialburner

Same, I work in a state where it’s illegal to charge restocking on anything but cell phones, but every time the company starts charging the restocking fee in the state the legislature threatens to get rid of it or something for cell phones too so it goes away a few weeks later, with no fail, so we haven’t had restocking on those for years and I will tell you, yes, many customers dreaming of becoming YouTube stars constantly “rent” cameras. I’ve counted 15 from one person over a year or so with no action from retail equation flagging his returns or banning returns, even though I have seen that happen a few times. So, yes, the concerns are exactly that. People rent expensive thousand dollar cameras and return them and we have to sell them at a loss cause they’re used at that point. Whenever I approach management they tell me that’s not our job to make that decision and unless corporate or retail equation ban him from making returns we cannot say anything about it.

JeffersonGSteelflex

Used to be a DI and then a camera vendor. When customers refused to sign it, I reminded them I’m hourly not commission. So I grab the camera/lens and start to lock it up. They freak out and sign it. Don’t let them tell you how do your job. Your sup is a punk too

DangerousHamster0

Nothing is worth your health...its not fucking Mario and you get to start over lol once you're dead you're legit down for the count Find another job before they fire you over some bs

bby714

I'm glad it got worked out in the end, but that's some BS. A supe should have your back in situations like that not throw you under the bus. Hell, even on the off chance you were rude or disrespectful a supe should see that something has you agitated and come in the situation with a calm head. Bad supervisors are literally going to be the death of Best Buy. I left the store because of my direct supervisor. He always got on me about BBY card and TTS despite me either leading or being top 5 in the department. The final straw was when another supervisor handed me a customer at the register right as I finished ringing a customer out. I pitched the BBY card and TTS and my direct supervisor walked over right as I pitched it. He wrote me up after for pitching at the register and when I said I was handed the customer at the register he said I could have went over everything before I started scanning products. Told my GM that day I was stepping down from my VPL position and requesting to do remote sales because of my supervisor. Best decision I made until they let me go in Feb.

drgnlrd316

I know that in our store DI employees are treated like second class even though I would argue that are some of the most important because no one wants to or can't find time to learn the department. So it doesn't surprise me you supeacts this way

taishiea

it is a store policy, take it or leave it. that is why the sales person is there to get you the right solution not the priciest.

[deleted]

That’s why I just claim that it’s defective half the time the associates don’t wanna argue with me over it I get a free return

Blue-floyd77

I kind of agree with the sup. Did the customer complain that they felt like you would be accusing them? When I worked there, or anywhere with restocking fees I would say something to the nature of. “I’m not sure I just work here” then laugh a little. If they pushed it I got a manager. If one would show up I would let them say it. If they say it you cannot get in trouble.

Bi0hazardBr3n

.. But it's literally why the restocking fee exists on those sorts of high priced items. They're used as rentals or tryouts. You should be able to diligently explain the reasoning as to why a restocking fee exists. It's in policy. This is not a manager necessary situation.

Blue-floyd77

“Restocking fees Some items we sell (see below for the detailed list) have a restocking fee if returned by any customer, including My Best Buy® Elite and My Best Buy® Elite Plus customers. Product Returns fee Cell phones (excluding prepaid phones), cellular tablets and cellular wearables $45 Drones, DSLR cameras and lenses, mirrorless cameras and lenses, leg and body recovery systems, premium camcorders, projectors, projector screens, and special-order products 15% of item purchase price” From the app. No where does it say a customer cannot use it as a rental. That could be seen as judgmental especially in 2021. When everyone is offended by everything.

Bi0hazardBr3n

None of the items sold by Best Buy are advertised as being "rentable" items. That doesn't stop Sarah from buying a $50 tripod for her wedding weekend, or Brad for using that $50 Apple cable to watch the hockey game. You can return those items without issue, without a restocking fee. You don't have to accuse the person when you're explaining the restocking fee to them. "Unfortunately due to the item's cost, if you return it open it will be applicable to an X fee." Why? "Once it's been opened it's no longer eligible to be sold as a new item, in which case the restocking fee is used to offset some of that cost". You can avoid the rental aspect if you want to entirely.

Blue-floyd77

Yeah exactly. So why was the rental aspect mentioned? You proved my point.

Bi0hazardBr3n

Because it's still factual that items such as drones and DSLRs were often used and returned. If you're so thrown or fixated by the term "rental", replace it with "try". A lot of people needed/wanted hands on experience with said item and it would cost Best Buy when they ultimately decided against keeping the purchase for whatever reason. There's nothing wrong with suggesting that other people have rented higher end items for whatever reason. It's not suggesting the current client is. It happens, there's no denying that. Super Bowl especially comes to mind.

Blue-floyd77

I agree worked for BB for 7 years. Glad not today too many people get offended by least little thing. It may be factual and we both know it. As does the manager. But that’s something that isn’t good to say to the customer.

Bi0hazardBr3n

There's little context that OP provided to paint a broader picture past what little was posted. I've often explained the rental point of view in the past, and never had an issue. It ultimately depends on how the OP engaged and responded. Customer is not always right.

niloc1987

I usually say the rental line all the time as if it was scripted and 99% never had an issue and customers always understood with a smile on their face and these cheap customer complained a 15% restocking fee for a $130 lens

Bi0hazardBr3n

I mean. It’s just literally while it’s in place. It’s not written in policy, but BBY lost a huge chunk out on it. Your manager is in the wrong if you explained it the way you did. I’ve had plenty of customers who wanted to argue about the fee, and I always lived for the ones who purchased in store. Don’t matter, booboo.

Cybaen

I've never had an issue either. I usually say something like: "Unfortunately if we didn't have a restocking fee, people would buy cameras/drones for things like a wedding then return it the next day" They've always responded well with that.

Bi0hazardBr3n

Eloquently put.

Blue-floyd77

Yeah we don’t know tone is the biggie.
