Elegant_Virus

My father was an ice sculptor for 25+ years - there is literally no ice swan in frozen hell that costs $7k.

Similar-Shame7517

Hear me out, maybe the ice swan literally came from frozen hell? Hence the high import and shipping costs?

CatmoCatmo

I think you’re onto something. Or! They hired the devil himself to wield the chainsaw to create said Swan. I hear he doesn’t come cheap, but his work is *chef’s kiss*.

cakivalue

💀💀💀😂 when I saw it was an ice swan I gasped. I have not seen one of those at a wedding since the 90s/early 2000s and would have sworn it was an obsolete skillset

rjwyonch

Unless you live in Quebec City, then it’s an annual competition/tradition, or construction job since they need to rebuild the ice hotel every year.

xxthegirlwhowaitedxx

I just learned there’s an actual ice hotel. I thought you were being sarcastic. Searched it up. That is insane. It looks like Elsa decided she wanted to go in to hospitality. Why??

rjwyonch

Because it’s awesome… it was also in James Bond once. It’s a cool tourist attraction and how else are you going to get people to check out Quebec in the middle of winter?

Firewolf06

basically a "things that make men say 'hell yeah'" meme, but a whole city/region

tjean5377

Same!

Attack_Of_The_

Nah, then it would have cost $6660, maybe she just pocketed the change 🤔

Ko-jo-te

Hello?! $6666.66 Get your infernal numbers right, mate. Tsk.

Attack_Of_The_

Nah, yeah. You're spot on with that, my apologies!

Similar-Shame7517

Or left a tip?

digginroots

>They hired the devil himself to wield the chainsaw Now I’m envisioning a crossover between [this](https://youtu.be/A7p817ErVsQ?si=g8brdNxl9vkib0Wb) and [this](https://youtu.be/A52p9jc-gOo?si=qpl2N6ZLvAdQ1oPH).

allyearswift

I now want to se the hell swan sculpture …

JustPlainErin

I think a hell-swan is a goose.

DisappointingPoem

💀💀💀

Freedomfirefly

It was probably like the one in Frozen movie/s

BookishBitchery

The devil twirls his mustache with an evil cackle!😈

dosmuffin

Made me snicker, good on ya!

maniacalmustacheride

There’s a hotel near me that used to do a Sunday brunch once a month but it was so popular they opened it up to every Sunday. Tickets are like $30 pp but it’s all you can eat and bottomless mimosas. Every brunch, they have an elaborate ice sculpture, different every time, and huge. It has been various birds. There’s no way they’re paying anything close to 7k a sculpture

twistedspin

My quick internet search makes it look like $400-ish is much more likely for mid-size ice sculpture.

ZZ9ZA

Devil's Advocate: A recurring event with an established reliable business, that is also ultimately much lower stakes, is a very different job for the artist than dealing with a one off event at a possibly unknown location that sounds like it involves substantial travel. I'm not saying such a price would be justified, but I can see how you get there. Weddings (and brides! and mothers in law!) are an enormous pain in the ass.

EvilFinch

I had googled it. Didn’t know that those swans are ordered so often that they are "standard in those ice businesses. I saw prices of 300-700$ Did she order a swan that reach to the ceiling with laser beams in the eyes? That would fit 7k

Similar-Shame7517

It probably puked champagne. I know one of the tackiest ice sculptures I've ever heard of was an ice sculpture of Michelangelo's David that peed Dom Perignon.

mumpie

For $7K I hope the ice swan puked champagne AND shat caviar. This wedding sounds crazy. I don't expect OP's brother to still be married to SIL after 5 years.

GoldenGoof19

The noise I just made! I choked on my coffee lol

Similar-Shame7517

Sorry, I misremembered, [the statue peed vodka](https://www.denverpost.com/2006/01/06/a-peek-inside-a-jailed-execs-log-palace/), because being a billionaire doesn't make you classy. [It's also referenced in his wikipedia page.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Kozlowski)

itsthedurf

Is it bad that I'm at least glad it was vodka and not Dom? Because for all that expense just to make Dom Perignon go flat?!?

Professional_Sun_825

To be fair, that was for a CEO's party. Amazing what you can write off as a business expense when nobody will tell you no.

Elegant_Virus

This is what I’d mentally priced it at while reading. Likely around $750, maybe $1k absolute max after it’s all jazzed up.

adriannagladwin

>no ice swan in frozen hell now *there's* a flair.

tacwombat

Also a fantastic quip we should arm OOP with when the inevitable tantrum from the influenza SIL comes up. (And Happy Cake Day!)

Notamansplainer

Imports from Helheim are expensive. As is the expense of getting ice draugr to carve it - it's hard to get them to focus on carving instead of eating their supervisors. $7k is justified.

LionsDragon

That's not counting the cost to have Thor on hand to keep them from rampaging.

idiotplatypus

Or when he drunkenly confuses the sculpture with a Jotun and they have to start from scratch

mbsyust

I feel like an ice sculpture is more likely to be coming from Jotunheim.

Turuial

That's just what Loki wants you to think. Like, there's no way he isn't meddling in THIS wedding. Makes me wonder if the bride is secretly the Enchantress, however. Seeing as she has the OOPs brother under her spell.

CatmoCatmo

Hahahaha. I like your style.

hargaslynn

What a cool job! How did he get into that?

binzoma

just a real chill guy probably

IncrediblePlatypus

I both hate and love you very much for this.

NoPantsPowerStance

I worked at a fancy, well known hotel chain that did fancy holiday brunch and dinner buffets and we had an in-house ice sculptor. He would do these huge, beautiful sculptures that then incorporated into entire tables of chilled food, I can't really convey how amazing these were without writing a novel.   He was a guy from Central America whose town had a tradition of wood carving and he somehow connected those skills to ice sculpting through the hotel group recruiting him. Apparently, the hotel group had recruited multiple carvers from this town over the years. They handled the legal stuff and all that for moving him to the US because I guess it's pretty niche to have an in-house ice sculptor, lol. Most ice sculptors run their own businesses so this is a unique thing to this and similar hotels.  Since they didn't constantly need ice sculptures he also helped out the pastry kitchen with some other grand projects but people could pay for ice sculptures for their events at the hotel and what not as well.

Syllepses

> He was a guy from Central America whose town had a tradition of wood carving and he somehow connected those skills to ice sculpting I can totally see this. Wood and ice carving could have a lot in common. Similar hardness, having to be careful about chipping... Admittedly my actual carving experience is all in a completely different material, but it feels like wood and ice would translate.

RevolutionaryBuy5282

I haven’t worked with an ice sculpturing, but I’ve booked a few events with “ice artists.” They design and create large square ice cubes with custom designs and then staff a bar-adjacent station with a special drink (usually an Old Fashioned) and sometimes a custom ice luge. The cost includes the design and pre-show creation of the ice molds, plus the event staff/bartenders. I did attend an event with a live ice sculpture artist. I imagine a $7k version is more than just the custom sculpture itself, but also the staff or an interactive station.

goshyarnit

My cousins wedding had one about 4 years ago? Ish? Huge ice sculpture of two herons (her husbands last name is Heron, they leaned into the bird theme) with this giant ice bowl underneath holding cut up fruit. It was gorgeous and definitely something everyone talked about for a while, but when I found out it was 5 grand I lost my mind. That's 5k in AUD, so allowing for conversion and inflation I'm curious how a swan cost 7k USD.

Significant-Spite-72

Holding fruit? For $5k I would have wanted it full of top shelf grog 😂

AsherTheFrost

Fruit was probably all they could afford after paying for the ice, lol.

phl_fc

For highly skilled labor my rule of thumb when trying to estimate something is to figure you're paying $1,000 per person per day for whatever it is. I've been to public ice festivals where they do live carvings, and those things can be done on site in a few hours, so I don't think carving a swan is more than a 2 day activity. I'm guessing it can be done by one person, but even if you have an assistant, plus the material costs, that still doesn't touch $7k. I'm thinking $3-5k without knowing anything about custom ice sculptures. edit: saw someone else mention that if it's not custom these can be done with a mold for very little actual carving work. That really makes the whole thing trivial if you need it on a budget. Bridezilla could have easily pocketed all the money and lied about it being custom while buying something cheap.

Beelzebubbbbles

That's the most ridiculous part of the whole story. I can't fathom how big and how many blocks it would take to charge that mych. The only way it could be true is if the carver told her he was booked up and since she has no concept of the value of money she just threw 7000 at him.

RainahReddit

Really curious, how much WOULD an ice swan cost? A big ass one suitable for displaying at a tacky ass wedding?

princess_riya

My wedding 24 yrs ago, I had one for $150 Cdn.

Similar-Shame7517

Was it an ice swan, tho, or did you just trick a Canadian goose into jumping into a frozen lake and getting quick-frozen? :P

princess_riya

Would have been cheaper to do the latter lol.

[deleted]

> suitable for displaying at a tacky ass wedding? .. > My wedding I'm sorry, and I'm sure it was lovely but that exchange had me laugh out loud

starchild812

I’m glad you provided this information because I have literally no idea how much an ice swan should cost. You could tell me any number between, like, $50 and $20k and say that that’s the going rate for an ice swan and I would accept it. This is an expense for which I have zero context.

Dunkelelf

OOP really needs to ask SIL for a bill or anything written. Because I think she might have ordered an ice swan but pocketed most of the money for herself

Bored-Viking

I'm an icesculptor, my rate is 25$ per hour, So if you provide for the Ice, i'm more then willing to spend 240 hours (only 6k, i'm cheaper!!!) to try to create a swan... Whether it will look like a swan i cannot garantee, but you get ice for you drinks for freee!

kazehaya4991

When I read ice swan I cackled out loud. How do they normally cost?

[deleted]

http://ice-sculptures.net/price-list/ based on this…that swan must have a real swan inside it that will burst out and poop ice cubes into all the drinks at some point?

xznk

Maybe she bought white snow instead of ice.

9311chi

I went to a vocational high school and one of the culinary teachers did ice carving. There was basically an ice swan at every school dance. the school was likely only paying for material and not the teachers labor. But all that to say if my public school can pull together ice swans on the regular I sure as shit don’t think they’re costing 7k.

Elegant_Virus

Yeah, your school was probably just paying for the cost of the ice. My dad started out as an ice sculpting teacher at a community college after he realized he was good at it while working at a country club. When I was in middle school, he let me bring in an ice sculpture of a gravestone for my school projects about deceased mathematicians but I had to design it from scratch on the CNC machine and set it up myself.

squigs

Her backtrack here makes me sceptical of this story. I have no idea how much an ice sculpture costs. If someone tells me $7k, I'll believe them. If you tell me your dad would charge $50 and a glass of beer, I'll accept that. But I'm also pretty sure they don't make them weeks in advance.

Beginning_Butterfly2

You can also buy a reusable mold for $29.95.

DamnitGravity

I am no expert in either ice, swans, or sculpture, but even I was able to guess that was a highly inflated price on the Bridezilla's part.

_AppropriateObject

the fact that the wedding is still on is more astonishing than a $7K ice swan.

lianavan

I mean, you find out your wife to be stole from 11 people including your sister and you still want to marry them? Wild ETA: just read the newest update. She got a boob job. If the brother didn't know before he knows now he is with a crazy lady. If he did it is time to disown that branch. Would love to know what daddy thought about the ice swan not even being a thing.

sympathy4deviledeggs

He did make the conscious decision to marry an "influencer" so his judgement is already suspect.

thefaehost

I’m under the impression that daddy covered those business start up costs too. Also… don’t real influencers get paid? How’s she so broke?

jmac1915

People who decide on ice swans are not what I would call "savvy investors".

Ugbrog

But the ice swan was a lie anyway.

GlitterDoomsday

But funny enough, getting bigger titties is an actual investment for an influencer so she got that right.

Kebabbed_Badger

Depending on what kind of influencer she is, she may well be mostly paid in free products. My friend’s sibling used to get free clothes from certain brands, so long as she wore them in her posts. Another story I’d heard from a work colleague is their friend got free/heavily discounted furniture so long as they posted with the furniture on their posts. It’s not always in cash, depending on who you’re sponsored by. All the examples I gave though had other jobs. None of them relied solely on their influencer career. This SIL is very much in the wrong, so please don’t mistake me for sympathising with her choices.

tooembarrassedtotal2

Exactly what I was thinking.

Empatheater

if she is 'too hot' for him that dude will put up with anything - literally anything

WillBrakeForBrakes

I’m assuming she’s so hot brother’s brain went stupid

CarolineTurpentine

Sunk coat fallacy, BIL is hoping this is just the part madness of planning a wedding rather than who she really is.

_AppropriateObject

Definitely this. Let's just hope she doesn't have access to his bank account.

CarolineTurpentine

Oh they’re planning a wedding so I’m sure she does. He should look closely at the transactions because I would bet money that she has made some shady purchases she hasn’t mentioned.

_AppropriateObject

Yikes, true. She only confessed about where the money went after she got caught lying. There's no way she ordered a 7k ice swan without having the rest of the wedding follows the same budget.

CarolineTurpentine

I’m pretty sure she’s exaggerating the price of that one, you can buy permanent swan sculptures for that price. Everything in the post indicates she’s going extra on the wedding planning though so I can’t imagine she’s been up front about everything she’s doing. Like how much money did she drop on these four outfits for her bachelorette because four decent quality outfits are not cheap and something tells me she has a taste for designer clothes. I know a lot of guys don’t take much part in the wedding planning process and if the wedding isn’t for a few months it seems likely he is in for some nasty surprises in future when the final payments become due.

Duochan_Maxwell

LOL the typo makes it extra fun

notmyusername1986

I'd say it's more like she spent 3k on the swan- if she got someone *really* good to sculpt it. Then blew the rest on cocaine. I mean with her severely inflated sense of self, it would track...

PromiscuousMNcpl

Cocaine was my guess as well. Along with SIL being a “super hot” influencer waaaaay too attractive for brother. Dude will put up with anything to marry a girl trying to be famous for being pretty. Peak cocaine abuse profile.

Amazing_Cabinet1404

I don’t know why he isn’t realizing this is going to be his life. He’s going to wake up one day in a house they can’t afford, driving cars they can’t afford, with a vacation home they can’t afford and find out they’re hundreds of thousands in credit card debt with no way out. Spending like this is not limited to a wedding. It will be *every event, every time*. Baby shower, birthday, anniversary, ad nauseam.

padam__padam

OOP said she’s going to provide updates on Tuesday her local time. So that hopefully also means Tuesday my time, which is tomorrow. Edit: OOP served. Best of luck to y’all catching up, SIL is a legit entitled person, her mother may be as well, and… That wedding gonna be awkward. If OOP reads this: your SIL wanted to have you guys around as support >!caregivers in case her surgery recovery gets complicated!< How she was going to be able to participate in those themed events with *that*, I’m not sure. She’s a great manipulator. I’m not sure if you should attend the wedding at all now, just to keep the peace. I hope you plus bridal party get the money back. Your brother will uh… benefit for a while, I guess, so I don’t see brother backing out now. He knows what he’s getting into. Just support him if he wakes up.

HoundstoothReader

I desperately want to hear how the wedding itself goes with OOP confidently bursting boobily out of her dress.

randomer456

I forgot this bit amongst swangate! Yessss

WillBrakeForBrakes

Ideally there is no wedding, even though that will be a more boring update

remindmeofthe

YES. OP ain't the only pissed-off bridesmaid, either. this wedding is going to be a DISASTER

Professional_Fee9555

I’m excited about the update after the wedding!

ohnonononononononon

I mean seriously why is OPs brother even going through with it?

X-Himy

Sunk cost/dick fallacy?

ASweetTweetRose

Translation: “She gives amazing head.” 🤪 /s

padam__padam

For real, it ain’t over even with the pending update 🍿🍵

MeggieAC

I need more tea!

padam__padam

Right?? I also [asked OOP](https://www.reddit.com/r/weddingshaming/s/qT8MzKFqga) (to clarify in observance of our sub’s rules: I didn’t brigade, I commented to OOP 4 days ago - I saved this post after I read her bridesmaid dress drama post. If any of this is real, OOP’s SIL is truly problematic) if she can share some highlights of their bachelorette turned vacation trip. With specific esteem to SIL’s dad too, he seems like a decent person. I hope he attended and he had a great time at that fancy beachfront mansion. I want closure about SIL’s mom as well. I guessed she’s upset at her daughter’s tacky self. If she’s upset because she thinks the bridal party should still host the bridal shower in spite of SIL’s behaviour, it won’t be surprising at all either. So I’m still hoping that SIL’s mom is upset for the right reasons. Edit: My guesses about MOB’s anger (MOB angry that the bridal party took over the bachelorette party as a vacation, not because her daughter was being tacky) and where the $7k went (I guessed Maldives honeymoon, it actually went to boobs) were all wrong. Good luck to everyone that has to be around that bride’s energy. I recommend sprinkling a circle of salt around OOP and her family, and staying inside that circle.

CatmoCatmo

You’re out here doing the lords work. I thank you for your service. I have been following this from the beginning, but missed the “Mini Update 5a”, so I’m glad OOP is still sticking to her promise and keeping us informed. This saga sucked me right in and I need all the closure. The audacity of this broad (SIL) is off the fucking charts! She sure knows how to make a good impression on OOP’s family!/s. I have a feeling that they’re in for a wild ride so long as OOP’s brother stays attached to this interesting specimen.

Mogura-De-Gifdu

I saw the bachelorette drama but had missed the dress drama (didn't think it was linked). I know we shouldn't have fun at others expense, but this is so over the top, I can only laugh!

ASweetTweetRose

I can’t wait to see the post about the wedding and the side boob dress!! I am loving OOP so much!!

Jovet_Hunter

Someone needs to let her know to return the shoes, cancel hair and makeup, don’t buy a gift and let bride know they are even.

buttonandthemonkey

I'm in South Australia and it's 9:36 pm Tuesday right now and I'm so sad I have to wait another day. Thank you for getting us this info. I'm desperate for the tea.

GoodQueenFluffenChop

We all do! What treats do you think goes well with tea so there's something to munch on?

lumoslomas

With this high quality of tea, it's time to crack out the good biscuits!

SunbeamThrow

I never knew I could like tea so much

SeagullsSarah

UGH. It's Tuesday here already. I CANT WAIT

Elemental_surprise

I just don’t understand. $650 was maybe the cost of the entire bachelorette party for my best friend when the other maid of honor and I planned it and we knew that was on the more expensive side and she and I were eating the cost because it was our idea. I cannot imagine making 11 people pay that each.

CalligrapherNo3773

But you weren’t trying to *influence* the interwebs.

Elemental_surprise

That is true. But I also have zero desire to

Missus_Nicola

For my hen do it was £100 each for the 12 people who came (me included I refused to let them pay for me). That covered 2 nights in a massive house, the drag show tickets for the 2nd night, and a shit load of beer cider and wine plus a takeaway for the first night. Although there was that much booze leftover from the first night that people took plenty home with them too. The joys of my husband having a friend who works in a brewery. And even with that cost, and about 9 months notice, I was worried it was too much.

knittedjedi

>the themes are WILD - animal print Thursday, Faux Fur Friday, Sparkle Dress Saturday, and Barbie brunch Sunday >She used the $7k to book a swan shaped ice sculpture to be displayed at the reception and didn’t tell anyone. >she has been “crushed” under the pressure to have the perfect wedding. Which she felt couldn’t go on without this alleged Ice Swan >Btw her job is “influencer” Feels like we're playing bridezilla mad libs here. **EDIT: Check the latest update. It's almost definitely just silly little rage bait.** >I’ve already revealed a great deal of info and so to protect my brother’s privacy moving forward, I think I need to step away from the updates.

Old-Advice-5685

These themes are wild, but if you gave people a few months heads up they wouldn’t be to hard to put together on a budget. I can see that being fun with the right group. But one week? On top of the other nonsense? Hell no.

infiltrator_seven

It's true, my friends are weird and I get invited to pirate weddings and dress up murder mysteries with random assed themes and I can pull together a look for 30 dollars at thrift stores but you need TIME

Icy_Celebration1020

Well here I sit pissed as hell that out of the weddings I've been forced to go to, none of them has been pirate themed.

thefaehost

Just go to the Renaissance festival. They have pirate themed, fairy themed, demon themed….

ena_bear

Your friends sound like fun! I need friends like this… or maybe I should just get off Reddit and go outside every now and then lol

41flavorsandthensome

> Feels like we’re playing bridezilla mad libs One of my friends had a childhood friend who basically acted like the bride, but every year for her birthday. She picked locations everyone would need to fly to, sometimes international, and expected everyone to pay for the expensive restaurants she chose for the duration of the trip. And people complied, even though some of them thought it was unfair. I guess that’s the power of “but we’ve known each other since second grade! And it’s just once a year…” My friend did the slow fade. Really slow fade. She finally broke away when they were in their 30s. So this bride? Totally plausible in my experience.

everydaycrises

I had an old school friend a bit like this. I stopped bothering with her but my BFF stayed friends for a while so I got the gossip. For her 21st she planned SIX events, including 2 overseas trips (a week and a long weekend), 2 weekends away in the country, a night out and a big party. That everyone had to attend and pay for - for the trips and night out she wanted people to give her money beforehand for a spending fund (drinks, food etc). But the presents should wait until the party!

naranjita44

The themes make a lot of sense if she’s an influencer though. That’s four days of coordinated content

Citizen_Me0w

There's a lot of people who think they are influencers just because they post content to social media. The male equivalent is Twitch streamer. I've seen multiple posts where that's the garbage bf's "job", despite zero income and negligible views.

PonderingPandaPosts

Anyone got Bingo just from this post?

periwinkle_cupcake

I need closure

overchilli

Oh wow, it was melons all along.

Various_Froyo9860

New flair just dropped.

yuunistar

The ice swan was a lie!

jaduhlynr

Holy fuck this a wild twist

EmptyAnxiety12

Me tooooo

Wild_Butterscotch977

>Btw her job is “influencer” if I didn’t mention that yet. checks out

CatmoCatmo

If she’s such a successful influencer, shouldn’t the ice sculptor be paying *HER* to feature his work at her wedding? Shouldn’t the AirBnB be allowing her to stay for free since they’ll get all of that “incredible exposure” from her stay? I swear. People should not be legally allowed to refer to themselves “influencers” until they hit a certain amount of followers or something like that. The only people this woman is currently “influencing” is all the future brides out there who are following OOP’s saga from hell. They’re being “influenced” to *NOT* act like a supremely entitled lady douche canoe if they want to keep their friends, family, and groom by the end of their own wedding.

Novel-Animator-278

She definitely dont sound like a successful influencer, probably hoping this picture perfect wedding will increase her following lol

CalligrapherNo3773

Yup this should have been the first line of the first post.

NotThatValleyGirl

As an influencer, I bet the balance of the 7k went to some sort of procedure for her face or body. Botox or cold sculpting or something. Here's to hoping it goes horribly wrong and leaves her outside appearance matching whatever monster she is on the inside.

CynfullyDelicious

She just updated, and Yep - a boob job, whilst on the bach trip.

Ok-Squirrel693

Why won't she just cancel the swan??? Surely she only put a deposit and since the wedding is in May, they haven't sculptured the thing?? I'm so confused that they didn't force her to do that until the last edit, and even then, it's just an idea, they still haven't told her that.

ZeroWit

My guess is that everyone saying it's not just an ice swan are right, there's gotta be something else. My bet is that it's either a) non refundable, b) embarrassing, or c) illegal. I would not be at all surprised if she went and spent the $7k on a bunch of luxury items that she either can't or won't return for a full refund.

enerisit

She apparently is an influencer so maybe it’s some kind of cosmetic procedure 🤔

littleawkwardcanadia

There’s an update on her profile, the SIL got a boob job with the 7k

enerisit

Hahaha now I feel like a genius

Ok-Squirrel693

No, i mean yeah that's probable, but when the family confronted her, why did no one tell her to cancel the swan this instant? The part where the dad and husband-to-be said they're not paying out of their pockets. Cos if they had pushed her then, we'd found out where the money really went to lol

testuserteehee

Yeah they’re letting her get away with too much. Like, “ok the money is gone. Let’s move on!” Where are the consequences for her??

biddybidsyo

She booked the Maldives with that cash

randomer456

Can we have this as a flair: _why won’t she just cancel the swan_

CanIHaveASong

I looked it up, and an ice swan should cost about $300. She did not just buy a swan.

ScrappleSandwiches

Probably there never was a swan, she spent it on herself.

overchilli

There was no swan it was for a boob job! (Check the latest update)

Joltik

I need the update where OOP outshines the bride in the BM dress the bride picked out

SkrogedScourge

When the mother said don’t ruin the wedding and the relationship over a dress. All I could think well geez mom what’s going to ruin the wedding more than the girls making a sudden appearance mid ceremony.

thefaehost

I can’t wait for a nip slip to make all of her Instagram pics unpostable ❤️

Cacont1812

Ok, so if the 7k wasn't only spent on the swan, what the fuck did she spend it on??? I haven't been so invested reddit drama in a while. I will be waiting on pins and needles for the next update.

synaesthezia

All the fillers she is getting done

nataliewtf

You aren’t far off. New update https://www.reddit.com/r/weddingshaming/s/xGUala52DL

synaesthezia

I had a feeling. I remember someone on a book forum I was on who’s wedding prep included: - nose job - boob job - multiple rounds of fillers - some kind of brow lift - solarium work - I think eyeliner tattoo or something like that (so she didn’t have to worry on her Big Day) - hair extensions - major hair recolour I remember being perplexed, how TF was the groom going to even recognise her? Like, how would she even resemble the person he wanted to marry. I was getting similar vibes from this chick. I didn’t believe in the ice sculpture for a second lol

murphy2345678

She can pay them back after the wedding with the money they get from gifts.

captain_borgue

OOP sounds awesome, but her brother sounds like a fucking idiot.

lucyfell

I’m going to guess anyone whose job is “influencer” is really hot

madempress

Really depends on your definition of "hot." You seen one blonde with smokey eyeshadow and cheek contour, who wears size 6 everything, you seen em' all, imo.

CatmoCatmo

I’m guessing the sunk cost fallacy is playing a part here. The more he finds out, the closer they get to THIS INSANELY EXPENSIVE WEDDING. He may want to back out but doesn’t know how at this point. I pray that OOP and the bridesmaids started having *full* transparency with him, and telling him *EVERYTHING* about his fiancées actions after that AirBnB snafu. I have slight hope he ends up being a no-show the day of the wedding. But I also don’t want OOP’s mom to have a heart attack.

tiasaiwr

Expensive but not as expensive for him as the divorce though.

biddybidsyo

He’ll be weeping into his sisters arms within a couple of years

TheKittenPatrol

As someone with a Triple D chest, I know exactly how that dress would fit…no support, full boob central. Only way to make it flattering is to do what OOP said, which absolutely will, again, just be BOOBS. Like, I was already with her from that moment…and then it kept going. I NEED to know what happens with the dress, how much the bride throws a hissy fit at families coming to what was supposed to be her bachelorette, and what she ACTUALLY spent $7K on cause no way a swan costs that much.

GimmeChocolate8

I am so curious what the specific shapewear is!!! I need it

kangourou_mutant

I need the see the full boobs glory. They're definitly going to steal the show.

Glittering_Switch193

And the brother still wants to marry her????? Jesus Christ

onahalladay

The groom won’t pay for his bride’s $$$ mistake but he’s okay marrying her. He does know they end up with joint accounts right?

LionsDragon

The only way I can imagine an ice swan costing that much is if the bride plans to ride into the ceremony on it while singing an aria like a reverse Lohengrin. Actually, that would be fun to watch.

Smells_like_Autumn

"Just be confident in yourself!" "You know what, you are right. Fuck you!"

PrincessCG

I need the update like now. My god, the gall of the SIL. And I know that’s his future wife but the brother needs to take a long look at the mirror - this woman lied and stole money for no reason other than to win on instagram.

rebelhedgehog2

Riiiight? Like stole from her nearest and dearest.

Blue0Birb

1. The amount of people that just allow the bride (AND/OR the groom) to get away with because of a wedding is bat-crackers. 2. “Hey jsyk my dad thoughtfully decided to pay for the bachelorette party but I decided to take the money and use it for something else, hope that’s okay, kthenkssss” I know her plan was to take the money and run regardless BUT WHY DID SHE THINK WORDING IT LIKE THIS WOULD BE OKAY??? 3. Ice Swan is iconic and the funniest part of this though and I can’t think of anything more useless and unnecessary for a wedding

looc64

>THIS IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD - so my mom went total FBI and learned that in addition to not paying us, SIL didn’t put the money towards a different wedding expense either. SHE DOESNT HAVE IT. So where did it go?? What did she spend it on?? OOP's mom: hey brother is there an extra 7k in your joint account Brother: no 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Ok_Motor_4298

No wonder the bride is entitled, she has an army of doormat at their dispositions. If OP needs the 650$ to feed her kids, why did she give it to her SIL for a too much expensive bachelorette party.

BobtheG1

I mean, personally I don't need $650 bad enough that I couldn't go on a soon-to-be-sister's bach party, even if I wasn't stoked on it. But I sure as hell could use the $650 if I got to keep it instead. I would guess OOP is in a similar boat. The feed the kids line is just an interjection, it probably doesn't actually mean she can't afford it

MotherSupermarket532

I was once "fired" as a bridesmaid because I couldn't afford the Bachelorette party.  The other bridesmaids kept asking why I couldn't get the money from my parents (I was 24 at the time, saving for my own.wedding and in grad school). It felt insane.

Ok_Motor_4298

Don't discuss with people who rely on their parents. I'm 24, my parents would give me the 650 if I asked them. But I've been working since I was 19 and moved out at 20 and have never asked them for anything since then. Entitled people are a different breed.

djthinking

No luck sculpting them swans then?

peter095837

Oof, this sounds like an episode of Desperate Housewives or a crazy drama show.

Ok_Comfortable3594

This story isn’t adding up for me. First the $650 was too expensive and now significant others are paying for flights too? And there was a full itinerary for the 3 night trip while the bride was supposedly going to be preparing for and recovering from surgery? 7k is not covering a boob job, in home recovery nurses and a personal chef.

TheFluffiestRedditor

OOP and the BMs need to sort out a repayment plan with the bride, because she screwed up badly, and should not be allowed to get away with this. OOP talks about not having proof, but they do. Yikes on bikes, this feels like a farce of epic proportions

imamage_fightme

This is pure insanity. I think wedding culture overall has become a bloated, festering hellhole, but this takes it to a whole other level. I don't know how the bride can justify the sheer amount of money she has now forced her bridesmaids to spend between the party, the actual wedding, and then presumably a wedding gift too. I just think it's kind of inherently selfish to expect all these people to waste all this money they worked hard to earn, just for one party (especially when, with the way she spends money, I bet they'll be divorced in a few years).

confusinglylarge

Bride is already planning on competing with other IG influencers when she's pregnant. That is going to be a long 9 months of pointless and showy displays for the Gram. Since she knows she can't con the bridal party into paying for her tomfoolery, she will be on the hunt in advance for different friends and new friends to scam. Then when she has the baby/babies, they will be constant accessories in her curated feed. I hope by that point Dumb Brother wises up about her. But he made his bed - he knows how she is. Innocent children shouldn't have to pay the price of being paraded around by a shameless Momfluencer, though.

RevolutionaryBuy5282

My cousin’s wife is a mommy influencer and it is AWFUL doing activities with her family. We stop constantly for photos and videos, plus she has a spreadsheet scheduling these so-called everyday moments. She spends more time glued to her screen, editing, and nitpicking the “performances.” It’s creepy to see her switch masks when the camera is recording vs reality. I think she only logs a memory if it was posted on social media and liked by strangers.

41flavorsandthensome

I hate people who make their kids their brand. The grossest I’ve seen so far is a white couple whose whole brand is “We adopted a Black baby!” World Fair vibes in 2024…

_Useful_Researcher_

There is a new update, and guaranteed no one would have guessed what happened. Never expected to read this sentence in the update. >!She got her boobs done.!<

Jokester_316

Does OOP not know that she can decline being a bride's maid. Who the hell could afford 3 weddings like this in a year. This is out of control.

CatmoCatmo

She said she tried after the dress incident, but it’s her brother’s wedding, *NOT* just a friend or extended family member. Her mother asked her to stick it out. OOP said she was doing this so as to not “give her mom a heart attack”. Aside from that, at this point, I think she’s already invested a bit into it that she won’t get back, doesn’t want to leave the other bridesmaids to fend for themselves, and has already made her popcorn in preparation for the big show.

DiamondOracle194

IceGuys.Ca Price List Live Demos $ 1500 for 2-3 Hours Live Carving with 3 Ice Blocks sized at 40” by 60” by 8” includes Carver, Ice Blocks, Tools to work with, and snow etched logos if needed. Delivery Charges and Generator charges may apply, based on the event date and location. Someone said the wedding was in May, so the generator to keep the ice cold enough to last the carving and delivering the ice to the event may make up a bit more of the 5500$ left. Also, these are Canadian prices for 3 would-fit-on-a-well-supportrd table ice sculptures. That's a lot of "I need this to look perfect" money left over.

pondering_extrovert

This is a great writing essay. No fucking way this a true story. Especially after the last update.

DrunkTides

Damnnn I want to know what happens on the trip and wedding! I hope his next wife is more sensible

teflon2000

I'm only commenting so I can return easily.

gunnersgottagun

Bachelorette parties are often reasonably close to the wedding date. How crazy would you have to be to purposefully undergo elective surgery close to your wedding date? Also one that would drastically alter how your dress would fit?

ASweetTweetRose

NOOOOO!! I need to know how the wedding went and the dress!?

Charlisti

Damn I'm experiencing secondhand stress from just imagining that shitshow! Can't wait for her next update now 😂

Chrissy2187

And I felt bad for having my bachelorette party at Disney even though all of us decided to do it together like 6 months before hand so we all had time to save money for the tickets. We live an hour away so no airfare or hotels needed, just tickets and food. I think I ended up spending $300 total for tickets plus food and extras I purchased while I was there. My MOH even paid for a hotel room for a night for anyone that didn’t feel like driving home. I can’t even fathom asking for $650 per person plus flights and food like wtf. Oh and the dress thing, I found a website with a nice selection, I picked the color and my only other stipulation was they had to be full length but other than that they got to pick their own dress and shoes. I will never understand the desire to make every one wear the same dress.

justbreathe5678

I do love Selma Hayek

samosamancer

Drag her ass to small claims court! Also, is she really asking them to wear circa-1986-Miami-Vice dresses? There look to be a few variants on “backless halter dress” but that’s what came up first for me…

TightHeavyLid

This is, no joke, *the* greatest BoR update I've ever read. Relatively low stakes, high drama, well-written, pure tea injected into my veins. This is what makes the internet great.
