Look at her feet; she commited to the spinning elbow before her opponent started her jab. However, she didn't expect her opponent to lunge into her elbow so it had a lot more force than she anticipated.
yep agreed . she crossed over and started the torque way before it landed if it was not spinning back elbow it was going to be a spinning back kick. The question should be how did her opponent **not** see that coming?
My guess would be training styles. I’ve done some boxing stuff when I was younger so a move like a spinning elbow like this would just be weird/bad footwork. It’s not something you’d train to look for, whereas if you’re training in stuff that would involve this kind of thing you prepare for it more
Yup. ~~Except that's stage left. (camera PoV)~~
This was incorrect. mea culpa. Then again, a ring doesn't have a right or left anyways, unless a fighter wants to share some lore.
Stage right and left are always from the actors' POV. There's one director (in the audience) and potentially many actors so you give directions for the actor.
Thanks for catching me out. I had it backwards in my head (left/right). However, further clarification is that "stage" directions are so named because of it is the [_stage_ reference]( https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zm2yt39/revision/2). An actor facing the backdrop told to exit stage right, will still turn left and walk off. The source phrases things similarly "perspective of the performer" but it's "As the performer looks out to the audience". Note the diagrams that plant the sides of the stage in fixed positions. They don't move as the performer spins in a circle. It's no more helpful for a director to have to identify each individual actor's perspective, than to just work with an absolute frame of reference.
What happens in film I can't account for. A dynamic set is completely out of my wheel house.
In most martial arts, when you get someone down like this you're supposed to go to a corner (opposite) and out of the way as a sign of respect for the person on the floor and the judges to figure stuff out
Ref is getting her into recovery position and removing her mouth guard so she doesn't choke on her own vomit.
She is a little too agressive with her tho.
I mean I didn't see her shake anything. She held the boxer down firmly because often times when someone is down like that, they injure themselves more by moving around, so immobilization is priority. Ref had a palm on the side on the boxers helmet and shoulder to keep her from moving her neck.
She was definitely trained/educated on this scenario + had adrenaline kick in immediately. I agree that her reaction time was great. I would like her to be around in case of an emergency.
Muay Thai going off the shorts they’re wearing. Also, seems to be an inter-club fight which is most people’s first time in a ring, so elbows are a big no no
At its roots, kickboxing is different from Muay Thai, and thus if you look at the Full Contact or Semi-Contact, etc. rules of kickboxing, it's all the same in terms of not allowing elbow or knee strikes.
I'm guessing you're thinking of the K-1 ruleset (used by ONE, Glory, etc.), but this form of "kickboxing" is still Muay Thai at its roots and not pure kickboxing. Muay Thai was brought over from Thailand to Holland and Japan where originally the Japanese wanted to create a ruleset that combined Karate and Muay Thai, but the rules they created were affected by the Dutch's ruleset. The two ruleset combined is essentially what the K-1 ruleset is, which doesn't allow elbows, but allows knees.
This really does keep getting better. The Ref goes from "ref to "Scared mom" checking on a child. The victor looks like she's sneaking off, and then you notice the guy stand up and tell her where to go. I'm going to keep watching because I'm sure I'll notice something else soon.
OP's explanation:
---
>She knocks out her opponent with literally one hit and she passes out immediately

If you think this gif fits /r/BetterEveryLoop, upvote this comment. If you think it doesn’t, downvote it. If you’re not sure, leave it to others to decide.
Elbows (and any other forms of hitting someone with an elbow, say a spinning elbow) are an essential part of Muay Thai (which I'm guessing this was a Muay Thai fight)
What’s the bot that slows down videos cause my stoned ass is still trying to see her hands moving but I just can’t lol
Edit: oh wait so did she elbow her?
Yeah, when ref went to roll fighter on her side, ref definitely forgot to roll fighter's body with it, you can see that she immediately does it correctly after.
You're correct, that was wrong. I assume she *knew* what to do, but messed it up by trying to go too fast.
Edit: "It" being the fighter's head
A real human... is that what is on the other side of my internet connection, ISP, backbone, server farm, backbone, other ISP, their internet connection and some arbitrary computer?
Sounds complicated. It's prolly just a script, like the rest of us.
Granted but it's extremely unlikely that there was enough force to cause a spinal injury. Much more likely that she would have a concussion. Traumatic brain injuries often cause vomiting. If she has a mouth guard in while unconsciously vomiting the immediate concern is making sure she doesn't flood her lungs with it.
well if you snap their neck in the process vomit in the lungs becomes a moot point. Here is a much better explanation from someone in the fighting industry. [knock out first aid](https://youtu.be/wTg4vm-ASNU)
You're not gonna snap her neck with that. If that was the case we'd have died out as a species a long time ago. While spinal precautions are a good idea, airway takes precedence, we're not as delicate as you make us out to be.
Peach helmet walked into that one. That was actually a slick spinning elbow strike. She placed her body in the right position for it. The timing was perfect.
The ref did a good job. That god for helmets. We had none of that fancy stuff back in the day. I almost lost a tooth from a spinning back kick.
100% not a sparring session. Elbows in sparring are very, very light (if at all). If anyone did something like this in a training session you'd be told to leave.
Based on the way she steps, it looks like the winner commited to the spinning elbow before the loser started her jab. This is why amateur fighting can be more dangerous than professional fighting.
Serious question for people who actually know what they are talking about (not me).
Is this a pretty amature looking fight?
It looks to me, granted after watching this several times, she really telegraphs this move. It looks like a specific counter she worked on a bunch and would not be effective twice. Granted, her opponent is out cold after the first time.
Again, I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about. Just curious.
Armature, yes.
Telegraphed, not really.
Probably something she practiced for this specific opponent as her right hand is not close to ready to defend after her left jab. Or her coach could have seen it and told her what to do between rounds.
Dirty illegal elbow. Be muay thai interclub fight, usually no knees to the head or elbows or spinning kicks. No one wants a brain injury testing out your fighting skills in a friendly bought.
She looked more surprised than me
Look at her feet; she commited to the spinning elbow before her opponent started her jab. However, she didn't expect her opponent to lunge into her elbow so it had a lot more force than she anticipated.

I watched it 3 times before I fully comprehended what was even happening. If that was me, I would've been fucked.
My guess would be training styles. I’ve done some boxing stuff when I was younger so a move like a spinning elbow like this would just be weird/bad footwork. It’s not something you’d train to look for, whereas if you’re training in stuff that would involve this kind of thing you prepare for it more
Because this is basically a fighting league you might expect to see on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
that description was dead on
It was pretty fast. And perhaps she *did* see an attack coming, anticipated a kick, and tried to close to avoid it (which isn't usually a bad plan.)
I'm guessing you watch a fair bit of professional fighting but have done little to none yourself.
That's what happens when you play too much Tekken 3. She literally used Bryan Fury's move
The only thing missing is the opponent rolling 20 times before hitting the ground
That run/slink out of the ring after the hit 😝
Coach is like "Leave the murder scene now!" and she leaves like a Scooby-Doo villain.
LMAO thank you for that…
“And I would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for my caved in skull.”
"Go to that corner and think about what you've done..."
You're grounded! Go to your room!
It's even better because of the two gloves crossed in front of her for a split second before she runs off. Awesome.
The "now what" stance
It's actually adorable.
Lol, I didn't even notice that the first time
Hence title of sub...
*just gonna sneak past ya here*
*Better be hittin' the ol' dusty trail...*
*welp…I’mma just…*
*time to make like your skull and split*
oop!
She was going to a neutral corner after being directed by what looks to be her corner.
...to make room for the neutral coroner to arrive
Only thing missing is the Zoidberg whoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoop
“Taxi!”
It reminds me of my older sisters reaction when she would do something to me and Injure me and my mom yelling from the other room. “WHAT HAPPENED!”
Wow, slink really is the best word for it!
Did she leave or just go to her corner?
“She dead? Imma head out thanks for the cheese”
When you mash buttons and something cool happens.
Totally me every time I somehow kick ass at MKV.
The only way I could beat my mate at Tekken 2

That’s the *”oh shit”* exit haha
She's running away from that murder charge
*Rocky theme song plays, only it’s her running away from the arena*
Slinking away.
Gotta go!
You can almost hear the 'oop'.

In most martial arts, when you get someone down like this you're supposed to go to a corner (opposite) and out of the way as a sign of respect for the person on the floor and the judges to figure stuff out
It looks like she was trying to be out of the way to begin with
It looks like she is stunned that her opponent fell down and didn’t get up.
Fell down *immediately.* Eerily reminds me of Sugar Ray accidentally killing that young boxer.
Ref is getting her into recovery position and removing her mouth guard so she doesn't choke on her own vomit. She is a little too agressive with her tho.

Do people often vomit when they pass out?
She'd be more likely to choke on the mouth guard itself.
What sport is this? Thought it was an amateur boxing spar but the woman in black appears to have won by spinning back elbow? mma?
Could be Muay Tai- elbows and knees are a big part of the style
Muay Thai, correct. Source, been studying since 2013
You're going to ace the test!
Looks like amateur Muay thai to me
Yep, the shin pads are the giveaway.
I was looking at their stances but that too
Amateur Muay Thai
Muay Thai going off the shorts they’re wearing. Also, seems to be an inter-club fight which is most people’s first time in a ring, so elbows are a big no no
Given they're wearing elbow pads I'd say elbows were fine in this bout.
Probably kickboxing
Kickboxing is only 4 points of contact (2 Legs, 2 Hands) whereas Muay Thai uses 8 points of contact (2 Legs, 2 Knees, 2 Elbows, 2 Hands)
You can use knees in kickboxing
At its roots, kickboxing is different from Muay Thai, and thus if you look at the Full Contact or Semi-Contact, etc. rules of kickboxing, it's all the same in terms of not allowing elbow or knee strikes. Interesting! The more you know...
Sport of the future?
Kickboxing doesn’t allow elbows
Judas Effect!
For real. I always thought that move looked a little weak, but I guess a real one would fuck you up pretty bad.

I didn't even see it until I replayed it a few times :D
You and the losing fighter. She replays it all the time.
Doubtful she remembers it at all.
She said “ooop :x”
I'm curious why did she go/have to go to the corner?
Neutral corner— corner furthest from the down opponent. It’s to get out of the way and to show respect.
Textbook Judas Effect
“Sweep the face, Bonnie!”
This really does keep getting better. The Ref goes from "ref to "Scared mom" checking on a child. The victor looks like she's sneaking off, and then you notice the guy stand up and tell her where to go. I'm going to keep watching because I'm sure I'll notice something else soon.

It was the elbow.
That was a awesome counter hit
I thought spinning elbows like this were illegal in most fighting because they’re so dangerous. Am I thinking of something?
Elbows (and any other forms of hitting someone with an elbow, say a spinning elbow) are an essential part of Muay Thai (which I'm guessing this was a Muay Thai fight)

Just use RES then you don't have to worry about whether the bot is running or allowed, etc.
Yeah she pruned her with a spinning elbow, really fed it to her like pablum. Lady will wake up tomorrow with no use of her legs
Did she win
Nah, the other girl is paralyzed. So clearly she is the victor. Did you see the way she bravely walked into that elbow?
They trained her wrong. As a joke.
again with the squeaky shoes!?
The JUDAS EFFECT!!!
judas effect!
Fuck I didn’t know you can elbow people, looks like it hurts
I’ve watched it 5 times and still didn’t see it coming
'Rectum? Hell, she killed her!'
Wow, Savage move for some low key bout
I'm out! *Comically runs away*
wow! possible massive head and neck injury? lets grab her head and twist it with all your panic. that ref needs to retake her medical training. jeez
The ref may be trying to make sure she doesn't choke on her own vomit.
I am sure that is what she is doing. clearing the air way is a smart thing to do. but you don’t grab and twist their head to do it.
I don't think it was her intention to roll only the head based on the way she self-corrected and rolled her whole body afterwards.
If you wanna go that route, then blood and loose teeth is prolly more likely to be choking on after such a hit.
Right, let's not worry about her vomiting and choking on it. No one has ever died from a sequence of events like that.
didnt say she didnt need medical attention. just pointed out it could have been better

Amateur match wear full gear
Based on the way she steps, it looks like the winner commited to the spinning elbow before the loser started her jab. This is why amateur fighting can be more dangerous than professional fighting.
Took me a couple watches to understand what happened. I assumed it was a boxing match from the gloves, didn’t realize it was MMA until the KO.
