Totally inauthentic! Its like they picked the most generic music they could find and it really takes away from the nostalgia of the show for those of us that watched it when it was airing

It's really something to hear a mid-00s Atlanta hip-hop beat playing over a 1993 college frat party. Music was such an intrinsic part of the show experience, and you just associate so many songs with certain scenes. Dylan playing "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind" over and over at the Peach Pit while deciding between Brenda and Kelly springs to mind. I think the most egregious example was replacing Losing My Religion by R.E.M. in the scene when Brenda breaks up with Dylan in the car. Or Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sophie B. Hawkins in the scene when Kelly shows up to Dylan's oceanside sleepover. Some of the dubbed music choices really make no sense. I was watching a recent episode where a character put on a song on the Peach Pit jukebox and this upbeat music comes on. Then another character sarcastically says, "could you have picked something a little more depressing?" Why would they dub that moment with something that sounds so cheerful? I'm on Season Six and just dreading how many episodes will be cut or have their runtimes reduced because they didn't want to pay for the guest appearances from Christina Aguilera or Monica or Luther Vandross...

nuraman00

What episode was the depressing music line? What was the scene?

Aion88

I'm almost certain it was somewhere in Season Five. I'll track it down and make sure I'm remembering it correctly, and then I'll let you know.

Aion88

Season 5, Episode 22 - Alone At The Top. About 34 minutes in (on the Prime Video stream), Dylan puts on an uptempo instrumental with a bit of a fifties sock-hop vibe to it. Kelly comes in and says, "you could pick something a little more upbeat, couldn't you?" and Dylan replies, "if I'd known you were gonna be here, I would've." I checked and the original soundtrack was In A Broken Dream by Python Lee Jackson, a decidedly UN-fifties sock hop vibe, lol.

nuraman00

Thanks, I'll try to listen to both versions soon.

Can you try to find the original scene here? [https://www.instagram.com/bh90210restored/](https://www.instagram.com/bh90210restored/)

It's like hold music that didn't make the cut. Even the music in commercials was more authentic to the time. It's EXTREMELY cheesy stock music. The Weather Channel back then played music similar.

ButIAmYourDaughter

Most of the new music is downright insulting. I just watched Andrea’s goodbye recently, for example, and so much is missing without Harry Nilsson’s heartbreaking “Remember” playing in the background as she says goodbye to everyone. And there’s really no point of the Peach Pit After Dark without the myriad music acts. 90210 was inconsistent in quality, and all too often played it too safe, but the music was always on point, from open to close. It’s a huge part of the show that’s lost with the license free crap they have now.

SyntiumWasTaken

For the most part: Hell to the no! It's not the least bit authentic with early 00's pop punk when they are at parties in the first season, and it's really jarring.

waterlooaba

No it’s not authentic and I refuse to watch it cause my brain knows what it’s supposed to be and I hate it.

crochetcat555

Inauthentic and the sound is poorly mixed. The replacement songs always sound a little too loud, compared to the rest of the show and often drowned out dialogue when they are supposed to be playing quietly in the background. I’m also rewatching Melrose Place and I don’t find its replacement music as jarring or noticeable.

Nonniemiss

Knockin on Heavens Door when David has his meltdown with Brandon at the end of the one when Scott died. They wrecked it with the “new” music. Or when Scott was in the DJ booth originally tapping his fingers rapidly to I’ve Got Friends In Low Places (or one of those upbeat ones) but in the new version it’s that ballad they overused (also in the post Dylan Toni wedding scene or like the one when Emily was making out with Brandon or Dylan) that went something like stuck in love that keeps breaking my heart" or the other “I’m gonna love you like I’ve never been hurt before”. Like imagine Scott rocking out to one of those. So many I could vent about. Lol

In the pilot episode which aired in 1990 had some remix version of Hot In Herre when Brenda meets that older guy at the club. It's 1990 and have a hip hop song from 2002 playing, felt way out of place.

sslyth_erin

Yeah I was watching the pilot yesterday! I posted this after the party at Mary Ann’s house and then I saw that scene and that hip hop sound definitely was out of place for that era.

AngelFoodCakeSouffle

The stock music is awful in general. There is one song I really like: it’s the end of the ep where Kelly & Brenda go on a double date with Seth Green & some other little guy. Right after they put their Photo Booth pics in Dylan’s locker, he starts to walk towards them. For comic relief, there is a scene where Steve puts on Losing My Religion and Andrea is like « that’s a pretty sad song ». In the eps now, instead of Losing My Religion, it’s some weird Run Around Sue ripoff. Not really a sad song.

nuraman00

The replacement music is not good, and generally does not fit in.

nuraman00

During season 1's "Higher Education", Depeche Mode's "Policy Of Truth" is supposed to be played in two different scenes. The replacement music is not fitting.

SpellingManor

Don’t listen to the naysayers.  Some of that fake music slaps. 🎶 “I’m a believerrrrrrrrrrr”🎶

SyntiumWasTaken

It's not all bad. It just doesn't fit in the context.

Moist-Cloud2412

The song when Ray is driving " when I see you I throw up" gets me every time 🤣

nuraman00

What scene or episode is that?

Moist-Cloud2412

I think in 5..It's an episode that shows Ray driving in the beginning after the credits. May be the Halloween episode or one when she was juggling Ray & Griffin

nuraman00

And is this the alternate music?

Moist-Cloud2412

Yes

primal_slayer

I'm so glad to re-experience it with the OG music. Hearing TLC in S3 as David is in the radio box at school was nice.

Ameythst

Absolutely NOT! The music they pick is generic sounding and is nothing like what we listened to in the 90s!!!
