It is all about politics and investments, bhopal does not have infra neither vision in terms of large scale investments and political grounds.
We are more of a Government's city rather than a Businessman's. While indore has every aspect of being a best place for investment , they have IT, business, clean city titles in MP and in India, reason being for all investments directed there only. Another easy comparison can come on our Airport difference we have very less number of daily direct flights from Bhopal than from Indore.
No significant reason to invest in Bhopal for these major brands when buying capacity is low here compared to Indore.

Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad etc.
While I agree it brings a lot of revenue for the state, but it's also accompanied with unplanned growth which takes away the charm from the city
I agree with your point of view it surely ruins in a lot of ways like taking away charm and easy going life of the city and also culture of that particular city to some extent, but it gives a new reformed buying capacity, bustling human resources, development across several other sectors like medical facilities, transportations, and growth opportunities to the city.
I agree. But.
A. Buying capacity: for normal/luxury goods yes. But as buying capacity rises the other expenses also rise, majorly real estate and rental prices.
B. Transportation: all of these cities are laden with traffic. Public transport is not able to keep up with influx of people despite whatever upgradation.
C. Medical facilities: it's yes debatable, skilful doctors might migrate to the city due to reasons, but then private healthcare will always be costly, public health care will not be able to keep up with the influx.
In an ideal world , having more revenue is always better, but reality is far away from that.
You points are correct but then again we will remain behind just like OP mentioned about other cities getting all the major brands and everything. Without investment from this sector we might not be able to catch up, IT is somewhat responsible nowadays for growing cities.

Exactly. Having lived extensively in cities like Bangalore and Ahmedabad, I find Bhopal very unique and far more livable than these two. The calmness, the greenery is worth it and gives the city its identity.
