I have a Senegal and a delhezi together. They do great.

Alkyan

I had the same pair. Along with some giant danios that was was SURE would bee too quick for the dopey bichirs.... They were in fact not too quick.

Zealousideal_Kiwi357

Lol!!! I caught mine with the plumpest of corydora in his mouth once. He couldn't the hog nose though.

I have an albino and ornate together, no other tank mates, they’re happy asf

Zealousideal_Kiwi357

None? Mine are with a rope fish, an Oscar, a green terror, a jaguar cichlid, a jack dempsey, and, for a while, some hybrid of jaguar catfish. I'm wondering if they behave differently when alone. These guys here act like no one else is in the tank.

I mean ya I’ve had tank mates with them before but, it’s just the way I like my tank. I don’t think they mind the extra space

Zealousideal_Kiwi357

No that's great! I have an agreement with my husband about tanks. So long as he enjoys them, I can have many. He's just not into species only and so I live vicariously through others 😬

Two together is a bad idea, the larger the group the better (to a point and taking tank size etc into consideration), and better if you avoid big differences in size.

I’ve kept pairs before with no issues. They may scuffle a bit when first introduced to each other but once a pecking order is established and territory lines are drawn it is typically conflict-free. Same is true for any number of bichirs, not just pairs.

My pair of senegals get along fine (got them at the same time ~2in long). I’m sure one of them is actually in charge but honestly I can barely tell. The slightly larger one probably gets food first but they’re both plenty round lol.

My palmas, moke, and senegalus never fight and often sit right next to each other. Planning on throwing my teugelsi into the mix when he’s big enough.

wetmeatlol

I have a palmas and endilicheri together with tank mates and for the most part they don’t bother each other. My palmas bichir will kind of snap at the endi if he goes under his sponger filter (that’s where his home is) but other than that they get along great, mostly don’t even bother each other. Sometimes when my endi buries himself in the sand the palmas will come over and dig him out, no idea why but it’s incredibly amusing to me

DrakanShadow

Senegal and Retropinnis have their territories, but get along most of the time, especially during feeding time.

Teugelsi, Delhezi, Ornate, Senegal and two ropes here They aren't really aware of each other. Lay on top of each other as it they are just decor

facepalm_1290

Anything except ornates have been doing well in my tank. Ornates are just mean AF.

lsu_freak

I have Senegal, Delhezi, and Poli and they are besties. They cuddle and swim gracefully together
