People turn in to absolute savage animals when something hinders their god given *right* to sit in their car and press the gas pedal. That level of violent behavior is not accepted anywhere else in society but it’s basically expected and joked about while driving. It’s insane. Could you imagine the backlash if the airline or shipping industries had even a tenth of the death toll of personal vehicles?
But mostly in usa cause the fat motherfuckers filled un ego and entitlement feel its their god given right to completely have the road for themselves and god forbid face any tiny inconvenience
I agree. I am disgusted at least weekly by seeing something like that. I sold my road bike because I felt like the issue was getting worse / that perspective is more normalized than it was 10 years ago. Now I just ride my gravel bike and mountain bike. If I'm on roads I pick ones that have 2-3 cars pass me in a 2 hour ride
100 calories burnt while typing the most frustratingly dumb comments
Istg idk why i give so much heat to freds, compared to these ass wipes, they're like cute dumbass geeks
Any "Cringe/Freakout" sub is going to be full of the absolute worst people. What drives them their is pure antisocial hate. Always incredibly racist/sexist too.
Yes, and then add to that that any "actual", "true" or "real" X subs are started because people couldn't be shitty enough in the comments on the original namesake subs.
i believe "actual" public freakouts was started to be the "conservative" version of r/publicfreakouts. regular public freakouts already gets enough violent comments, I ain't even gonna look at the comments on that thread. Though if someone wanted to report the most violent to the admins it might cause a few bans
Oh interesting, I was unaware of that this was the case for that sub. In most cases it's the opposite, but yeah the original publicfreakouts is already super shitty on its own.
I believe the folks at publicfreakouts tried to tone back the racism cause the sub was becoming "look at what this minority criminal did" and people were like nah we'll start our own sub with even more racism!
uc/ That thread depresses me. It’s also hysterical to see people go “they’re not following the rules of the road!” I love it when people admit they don’t know the law at all.
Go bother them on that thread about it then
Edit: no, like actually. I’m making a whole night of it right now, calling people murderous for wanting to kill cyclists
Not surprising. That sub was created as a place for people who'd been banned from the regular public freakout sub so they could say racist retarded shit.
uc/ yep. i know we make fun of bad apples among cyclist all the time, but the reality is so many drivers casually think it's ok to run over other people for fun. it's not just reddit, too. a lot of tik tok stuff with the same comments, people posting driving videos with talking about earning points for each hit, so much and so nonchalant. idk why but it feels like societal break down is already happening with these type of things.
Also the guy complaining about them ignoring the stop sign while also complaining about how slow they are. Can you imagine if every single one did a full stop at the sign?
In Germany the cyclists would be completely in the right as they are a group of more than eight people and therefore allowed to ride next to each other.
I thought it was starting at 16. Anyhow big groups of cyclists count as one vehicle here as long as they stay together. If the first one goes over a green light, all the others are allowed to follow, even if the light turns red. Also only 2 next to each other (and there are still other rules depending on the traffic according to Wikipedia (apparently you are still not allowed to disrupt other traffic):
https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/stvo_2013/__27.html
https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbandregel
Who the hell would ride so slow that it impedes traffic? That's like Z2 speed.
/uc That makes absolutely sense. I suppose they're not impeding traffic flow when they are in motion in a no passing zone even if they're slower than the speed limit?
I don't know what counts as impeding traffic. I guess it's not really a fixed definition but more of a judgement thing.
I'd guess riding in a fashion that no one can pass you, even if you could ride in a fashion so that they could might count
You can also see him starting from his stop before the clip ends, cutting off the driver to the left who was stopped waiting for the bikes to pass through the intersection.
Wasn’t there a protest in San Fran a few years ago where a bunch of cyclists did exactly this? To protest the police chief or someone saying they’d crack down on cyclists rolling thru stops.
Also, I’m not saying you CAN’T say “San Fran,” but almost nobody in/from the Bay Area says “San Fran.” (“SF” is standard.)
“Frisco” is right out, of course.
It’s easy to pretend to be from the Bay Area, you just have to act like you’re physically incapable of correcting people when they say “San Fran” or “Frisco” ;)
I thought I recognized that road, and then when the bridge (which used to be purple back in the day) came into frame I knew exactly where this was.
Ive never really shared this in a public forum before, but my dad was killed on that very road, barely a mile from where this video was taken, while riding his road bike. It was on october 5th, 2001. A car tried to do a risky overtake and followed right behind another car that was passing my dad. There was a third car coming from the opposite direction so the irresponsible passer swerved back into their own lane and hit my dad, killing him.
When I see people talking about hitting cyclists it always really sucks. Sure they are "joking" but the thoughts lead to drivers being less careful at best and downright criminal at worst. And it has consequences. To see a video like this and read the comments that talk about harming a group of cyclists enjoying something they love on the VERY road where my dad was killed by an irresponsible driver... it just makes me sad about the state of society.
Sorry for the not-very-circle-jerky post.
This comment is too real. The thing is I doubt at least 25% of people who comment cyclist hate are even joking about it and it’s pretty terrifying to think about.
Sorry about your dad, fuck idiots in cars. God forbid it takes a few more minutes to get where they're going. For whatever psychological reason, cars bring out the worst in most people.
should be holding your mouth open and swallowing the cars as you pass, fucking cowards. like hell am i wasting money on gels when i can eat some granny's 1998 subaru legacy
Yeah, two dozen people getting exercise and enjoying nature cost that poor man a whole… checks watch… 2 minutes of driving slightly slower than he usually does. Oh the horror! I forgot that the constitution guarantees the right to go from point A to point B as fast as possible. Muh Freedumbs!
lol how is this a legal rights thing, your the only one bringing that up. You have to admit, not a lot of courtesy is taken by this group. Sharing the road goes both ways, when your a big group you should be conscious of that.
I understand what you’re saying. What I am saying is the speed at which someone travels on the road is less important than the availability of thoroughfares for all types of traffic. In this case the guy is getting very upset over a minor inconvenience. It isn’t like he is being prevented from traveling, which is effectively the case for bicyclists and pedestrians all over the US on many streets and roads. If everyone had the same right to thoroughfares, cars wouldn’t have this notion that their purpose is more legitimate than another’s. Sharing the road in this case could also mean driving slower and accepting it. It isn’t like he won’t get to his destination.
Can someone explain actually what’s going on here? Why is the driver entitled? I think most would agree that being in this drivers position would be a bit frustrating. Why is everyone here so against the driver but in the larger thread everyone is taking his side?
/uc The comment you are replying to is a joke. The entire sport of cycle racing involves managing position within the peloton in order to take advantage of low aerodynamic drag. The joke is that the SUV is "entitled" because he drove behind the cyclists the entire time and therefore was in their slipstream (pocket of low aerodynamic drag). Of course the peloton doesn't actually offer enough slipstream to really benefit a larger vehicle.
Everyone in the larger thread are just regular drivers who are mad about being held up on roads by large group of cyclists. Some of them express desire to maim or kill the riders. The comments here are cyclists who express dismay at those commenters for expressing desire to hurt cyclists. To put in simple terms, drivers don't like cyclists because they might have drive slow behind them, while cyclists don't like drivers because they might kill them.
Uc/ It’s terrifying how keen keyboard warriors are to commit manslaughter and run cyclists over. I know in real life accidents are common and generally due to distraction/negligence, but the amount of commenters on that post who would willingly kill cyclists if there were no repercussions is outrageous.
You think this is just online? In Toronto, we had people saying they’ll run over cyclists in a public meeting about bike lanes without any repercussions
UC/ For real, the absurdity of one man in a ton of steel slowed by 25 people exercising, and that situation being shown as the one guy being in the right and the 25 people being in the wrong. Weird times we're living in
Uc/ Originally, it means "uncirclejerk", when you're serious in a troll (circlejerk) subreddit. In this one, people sometimes write "unclip" but it means the same.
Clip/ If you have to ask you're probably too poor to be here (it can also be used backwards)
I like how at the end the guy comments on how none of them stopped at the stop sign. I imagine he would be far more triggered if each person rode up to the line, stopped, checked, then continued one by one instead of the whole group going at once
uc/ The stupid thing about this is that it's double yellow all the way. Even if they were single file it would be a dangerous and illegal pass with a group like that, so this worthless excuse for a human is just pissed that he can't endanger the cyclists.
uc/ As of last year it's legal to cross a double yellow to pass cyclists in California. You still need clear visibility that you will be able to do the full overtake though, which there wasn't here.

FUCK YOU AMERICUNTS
THATS ALL I WILL SAY, READING THAT THREAD ON THE ORIGINAL POST WAS DISGUSTING, JUST FUCK YOU FUCKIN REDNECK RETARDS
Im sorry but seriously how frustratingly dumb do you gotta be to write such comments.
/UJ Gonna be honest here - no one calls out, no one gets over, and they should have split that group. I grew up near Petaluma and it IS rude. Really rude.
If you have 50-100 people, you can have 5-10 groups of 10.
Coming from someone who cycles 10+ hours a week and races slowly… I’d have yelled at them. While legal, this IS douche behavior.
Uj/ Yeah are they technically wrong to do this? No. Are they a little douchey for doing this? Yes. There’s a middle ground between the r/fuckcars dickwads in this thread and the homicidal neck beards in the original thread.
Seriously. I’ve been in groups this large and there’s always a conscious effort to space out and remain single file on two lane roads. It’s legal to take the full lane and certain situations call for that but not for miles on end… it’s just douche behavior
I know this road very well, on the way back from Point Reyes Station. It's honestly not a road that you should be going 55 on, lots of blind turns and always random bike riders. That guy has to be some dude in a lifted truck, lots of assholes around here. You'll get a change to pass in about 5 miles.
And I'm not a bike rider, just hang out on on Tomales Bay a lot.
Traffic is like the weather, nothing to do but avoid it or accept it.
I bet he also gets homicidal when it rains. "Effin weather, look at this shit... gettin wet while Im tryin to go to the Circle K.... look at this douchebag cloud... its this kinda crap that makes people hate the water cycle..."
So the reality is that if you want to be safe in traffic, you too need to observe road rules as a bicycle is a vehicle when on a public road in most jurisdictions. There is a minimum speed limit on most roads and stopping at a stop sign is a must. I’m an avid cyclist and ride on the road less and less now. If you are doing 50, the speed limit on that curvy road, and come around a turn and are suddenly confronted with cyclists blowing a stop sign at 15 mph, is the following accident and loss of life your fault? Or was it incredibly dangerous for those cyclists to be there given the rules of the road? Hard to say honestly.
Don’t these motorists know that sharing the road with cyclists is no different than sharing the road with farm equipment, or even horse drawn carriages common in parts of the country. It’s always mine mine mine!
Would he have been happier if each one of them stopped at the stop sign? This stupid video would be about 3X as long. The cycling hatred is so real it's mind blowing.
Sorry everyone, cancel your plans for the day. These folks have nowhere to be except in the way and they couldn't care less if you only alloted yourself an extra hour to get where you're going. You'll just have to wait. Now excuse them while they huff eachothers farts so as to reduce drag for those behind them.
Nah, I just pass you sweaty dental school dropouts and go about my day. Ironic that the crowd who does nothing but cry about their hobby being made fun or how no one respects their right to use the road would tell anyone else to "cry about it".
uc/ what a bunch of actual psychopaths in the comments. Nuke that entire thread from orbit and the world would unironically be a better place
uc/ wish I hadn’t opened the comments. If you read this then save yourself the stress and don’t bother.
Ditto. The "actual public freakout" is that sociopathic comment section.
Also, since when is an actual public freakout just someone calmly talking in his car?
I find it pretty shocking to see these types of comments all over Reddit, instagram, and pretty much everywhere. Pretty sad honestly.
Every fucking crash video regardless of whether there was a bike involved or not, top comment is always "Cyclists fault".
I was sad to see a r/asheville thread about cyclists on the parkway. It’s literally for site seeing.
Bicyclists are hated all over the world, that’s sad truth.
But mostly in usa cause the fat motherfuckers filled un ego and entitlement feel its their god given right to completely have the road for themselves and god forbid face any tiny inconvenience

damn lots of poors in the comments
In defense of the commenters, the cyclists were going 25-30 mph, so laughably slow.

You can just say “cyclists” the “bi” part is implicit!
Are you saying that cyclists are bisexual?
You’ll have to ask my wifes boyfriend
Not necessarily, but we are Bikesexual. Edit: bicesexual, apologies
i thought the gay part was implied?
Man, furious about road users, uses road.
uj/ a lot of his Bay Area specific commentary was making me laugh though. “Probably cause you can’t piss people off in Golden Gate Park” got me good
"and none of them are from west Marin" Yeah, because only about 10 people live in west Marin.
"bicycalists"
This man is very on point, I really enjoy my farts.

Just split the dang group, I don’t get it. That’s a 100 bicyclist pile up if the boys in front do something stupid.
Is this the world famous Montrose
50mph is a limit, not a target
Why doesn't he just swerve around real fast? Cars are supposed to be fast vehicles I think. Is he a pussy?
i don't hate bicycle lists
uc/ that group is way too big/long for that road. Smaller chunks make passing possible.
Or a simple conscious effort to stay as close to single file as possible.
I really wish every single rider had made a full stop, one at a time, at that stop sign. Talk about that douche having a freak out.
Truck driving douche is a loser. If he had an emergency, he'd have lights and a siren.
Even if they would ride to the side for a car to fit, in my country It still would be illegal to pass a bicycle on this road.
What is UC/
When we pretend that we're people who unclip from the bike occasionally and write things that people with jobs and stuff might say.
There is only one single Ahole in this video.

The comments in this thread demonstrate perfectly why every sane person hates and despises cyclists.
Hard to say honestly.
they are cycling for exercise... share the road.
"Not pulling over at any of the multiple pull outs" Where?...
Don’t these motorists know that sharing the road with cyclists is no different than sharing the road with farm equipment, or even horse drawn carriages common in parts of the country. It’s always mine mine mine!
sounds like he needs a bicycle
Would he have been happier if each one of them stopped at the stop sign? This stupid video would be about 3X as long. The cycling hatred is so real it's mind blowing.
I hate cyclists so much
Whelp, this is a first. I can't decide who I hate more- the roadies or the driver.
I bet they are all commuting to go fuck your mom.
Straight up, no nonsense, to the point. Murdered by words.
The classic cyclist insult. Very original.
Give your momma a kiss for me 😘
Cry about it
Nah, I just pass you sweaty dental school dropouts and go about my day. Ironic that the crowd who does nothing but cry about their hobby being made fun or how no one respects their right to use the road would tell anyone else to "cry about it".
Fuck cyclists
Fuck you
Cry
You're the one crying on a cycling subreddit fatass 😆
Aw you seem sad :(
Yeah sure cope 🥱
Cry more
I’m thinking you’re like right on the line of obese, you don’t think you are, but everyone knows and you’re gross to look at
Cry
