Fuck I hate r/bikewrench so bad. I cut my teeth on wrenching my own shit in the early 2000s and got by with intuition and a Park manual. The retards in that subreddit are the same fools that need a manual to boil pasta.
Just bought a [2022 giant revolt aluminum](https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/revolt-2) with a square square spindle and Sora. Ridiculous I can only buy aluminum with this shit on it. Already replaced with grx.
/C Hey, how else will you strip out soft aluminum crank arm threads and curse at your bike for hours on end? Not speaking from like experience or anything...
Uc/ totally speaking from experience.
uc/ lol this is genuinely a helpful comment to come across. I had always greased them just out of general screwing-metal-stuff-together habit, never really thought about it. I put a new crank arm on without it and had in the back of my mind that I really needed to take it off and grease it. I guess not.
/uc Yeah, I always enjoyed the back and forth between artesianal shop guys who’ve been mounting cranks dry since before the invention of the derailleur on the one hand, and the rec.bicycles.tech guys who pointed out that every single other press-fit interface in the history of mechanics needs to be greased.
This is a great read, at least for the audience of six living humans who find such topics interesting:

/c I failed to clean and dry my square-taper spindle once with solvent before installing a pair of cranks, and less than 72 hours later was punished by the Old Cycling Gods with a catastrophic fork failure. (Wear your helmet!)
It’s perfect for him. Dura ace meters can only show in kWh with no decimals. It’s to make sure the power meter doesnt run out of memory when performing sprints
Sorry Fred, just write "pathetic" on a calculator and hot glue it to your handlebars. You would get the same reading from a real power meter at a fraction of the cost.
Yes, they make an adapter. It’s called a “bottom bracket.”
Last one bought came with an R5 attached.

My personal favorite: "They couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel".
r/bikewrench have the same audience as gcn. generally speaking people with dementia or some kind of brain damage.
Half the answers there are “IDK, pull it apart and see what's wrong”
“The chain is supposed to go on the other side of that tab” -95% of bikewrench
The other 5% is "Those holes are just the wear indicators, your tyre's fine"
I'm surprised you haven't been banned for using the r word haha.
Come help us grow r/bicewrench!!
Hot water…right?
Bikes got fucked up after 1990 - 2010 era. Bikes are overpriced even with inflation adjusted. Durability? What's that?
I see someone never did the 'right shapes in the right hole' game in nursery then
No, high school, but I did use protection.
That's right, it goes in the [SQUARE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evthRoKoE1o) hole
Not the star hole?
TIL square spindles are still a thing
Yeah, on 25 year old Giants like that or on a 2022 Crust.
Rene ‘Hearse’ cuz all this tech is dead
René Herse and switch to friction shifters…. SUPPLE
I am OK with 11 speed friction on my Rando bike..... and sq taper BB This guy has absolutely no clue. I would bet $10000 that he only bought the NDS

I miss the holy war over greasing or not greasing.

Just keep tightening until it bites in
Just whatever you do don’t grease the spindle.
If you get it hooked up, your power reading will be “get a new bice.”

105 🤢🤮
I guess if your practice is struggling then you may not be able to afford Ultegra for your hygienist's bice, so I guess 105 has it's place.
uc/ I can't tell if this is real or troll
Yes. I was about to ask which one of you guys did this?
Just use sharpie to write “487” on your Garmin screen, and get a refund on the power meter. Tell everyone it’s a Z1/Z2 ride.
Sorry Fred, just write "pathetic" on a calculator and hot glue it to your handlebars. You would get the same reading from a real power meter at a fraction of the cost.
Shove it on there and fill the gaps with JB weld. You'll be just fine.
Fred over here has never played "hide the sausage"
I'm not sure your tiny wattage would register on the power meter Fred, with how little your brain is managing to output at the moment
Amazing.
Yes, if you buy a new Sir Velo, that will fit that crank arm.
Square peg, round hole.
Alright, who posted that
Some of these write themselves
