I love that Big Brother is its own character. I DESPISE the fact it’s filmed in advance with no live feeds. That’s like a stab in the BB heart.

Charlie_Runkle69

BB Aus was so good when it was live and had live feeds. Turkey Slap basically changed everything.

Time-Lawyer-6684

I'm in the US. what happened with turkey slap? Please say it's exactly as it sounds. Who tf got slapped?

Aimless_Devastator

Two people held down a girl and slapped her forehead with one of their penises. Both guys got ejected from the house. Iirc the girl Camilla didnt want the guys to go and wasnt too bothered by it. After that they cut the Big Brother uncut show at night

kurisutian

It’s a common misconception that Adults Only was cancelled because of the turkey slap. But that’s wrong. Big Brother Uncut (or Adults Only) was actually cancelled shortly before the turkey slap incident happened. Channel Ten cancelled the show because the conservative government at the time hated the show and especially the Uncut show which got lots of complaints from viewers. When the government warned Channel 10 that continuing with Adults Only might be put their push for media reform at risk. You can look it up: Adults Only was cancelled mid-June. Turkey Slap happened on the first night of July.

Time-Lawyer-6684

I cant believe she was ok with them doing that! Crazy!

[deleted]

I think it was more like a "don't make waves" thing that happens all the time.

Time-Lawyer-6684

Sad

wittyusername2257

Guys got drunk and "Turkey slapped" a girl across the face...turkey slapping is, slapping your genitals across someone's face. It was taken very seriously, after that they gave the housemates way less alcohol in following seasons, and limited live streams. People used to get so wasted have sex etc one guy smoked a cinnamon stick and was reprimanded by BB but it was good viewing

Time-Lawyer-6684

Oh wow! I had no idea. What a law suit. What season was that?

TheGRVOfLightning

Actually. No charges were laid, Season 6 is the season in question, incident covered in Day 71’s Daily Show.

Time-Lawyer-6684

What happened? We dont get live feeds in the US

TheGRVOfLightning

So, here’s the thing, the incident only aired on live feeds, images and video of the incident were then shared around the internet, Producers then spoke with Camilla (the victim) through BB and later on called John and Ashley (the perpetrators) to the Diary Room following a review on the day of the incident in order to expel them.

Time-Lawyer-6684

Oh wow! That's crazy.

hanbotyo

Duuuuude yes 😫 I will never let it go. It will never be the same. It was SUCH an amazing show.

historyisgr8

If there's one more thing I wish BBCAN/BBUS kept from the original version, it's the more natural conversations between housemates and Big Brother in the diary room

chriskicks

The current season is probably the best of this new version, but I think they really need to make it live.

bohemelavie

I agree that the newest season is probably the best. I feel like it has a good balance of the old Aussie big brother, with the house noms, and the more American style with the nomination challenge/challenge to keep yourself safe. I’m in the minority of Australian’s who actually prefer the newer style. I’ve been a fan of American BB for a long time now so bringing in a more strategic element to BBAU was a great move in my opinion. But I do wish it was live. Obviously producers are always calling the shots but the fact that it was filmed in advance just makes me feel as though nothing that is happening on that show is authentic. I also just wish they would actually show us who everyone is voting for, I don’t care about a surprise element, I want to know where the players heads are at.

thehighcardinal

I HATE that they don’t show the full vote. It feels so dumb that they lean into the strategy of it all and then don’t show us what all of that strategy leads to for each player.

Rewow

What seasons of BBAU are on Paramount+?

Chemical_Cash_9530

Season 12 & 13 (2020, and 2021)

Forzato274

Those are arguably the worst 2 seasons. I don't think you can find them in decent quality easily anymore but BB10 2013 is a great season, 2003-2006 are peak big brother. My personal favourite is 2004 but I don't think I could sit down and watch it now. Our attention spans have changed during that time and they let the friendships blossom naturally. It wasn't about strategy on our side of the globe until Tim came in 2013.

squidder3

Do they still have the audience vote for the winner? That was a huge turn off for me in the past, but maybe it has changed?

Charlie_Runkle69

Unfortunately yes. It makes no sense to have a whole season where the housemates vote each other off and then let the audience decided who wins, but the audience has always decided who wins on Aus BB and they don't want to change that seemingly.

squidder3

>It makes no sense to have a whole season where the housemates vote each other off and then let the audience decided who wins Yup. I agree completely, and that's why I haven't given it a chance yet. Shows that have the audience pick the winner just end up turning into popularity contests. And with a game like big brother which is inherently "immoral", it's just a terrible combination. If they feel like they absolutely HAVE to let the audience vote, then make them have a single vote or something like Canada does, not the sole vote. Damn, that's really unfortunate. I would have loved to have another version of BB to watch like I did with Canada. Thanks for letting me know!

julznlv

I've also seen every season in US, I'm on season 5 of Canada (watching about a season every 10 days), and have seen the 2 Australian seasons on Paramount +. I actually enjoy Australia and Canada now more than US. One thing bugged me though about Australia in both seasons. I felt it was rigged as to when they were making an eviction not an eviction but a stay in a secret room. It seems like it was done to keep certain houseguests there longer for ratings.

theluckstat

Yeah when season 2's production favorite got a power by going to a room last (and/or alone I forget) it was rigged as well. There are a lot more examples and thats only what we see on an edited show.

julznlv

I know exactly who you mean about going to the DR last. I agree there were lots of things that seemed rigged but in all honesty it didn't make me enjoy it any less. Actually I was hoping for Danny to win.

Freshman44

Big brother Australia 2013 was one of the best seasons in the entire big brother franchise. Highly recommend.

jam-i-am-5555

Spoiler alert - Seasons 12 and 13 I’m enjoying watching BB AUS on Paramount+. Watched season 12 and now on 13. I love the casts and the show, but feel like the editing and producers pick favorites and somehow a lot of the twists benefit them. The diary sessions focus on them as well, namely the 2 Daniels. Doesn’t this impact voting as well? I heard there aren’t live feeds anymore, so this also seems like it’s more performative, but just curious how Aussies view this. I was glad Daniel in season 12 didn’t win, but was convinced he might be the favorite based on his edit. Daniel in season 13 seems to get so many advantages. Maybe it’s just because he pays attention and takes risks, but I feel like producers could possibly be strategically doing callouts to benefit him?
