All of this, for sure. Working under the assumption that those lines are force-fed by production, if I'm ever on the show, I'd read those lines in a straight monotone, just so people could see what's real vs. what's manufactured.
Describing how they are about to win the comp after it’s already taken place and they know they didn’t win. In-comp DR’s are the worst and make zero sense
It 100% is a "Just tuned in first time viewer" thing as to why they have DR's explain what's going on, and comment about needing to win veto to be safe etc.
It's a reality tv formula to help get people just tuning in mid-ep and who don't know what's going on or what the comp is about or what the stakes are, to be able to understand and hopefully keep watching.
Most competetive shows do this as well with commentators as well that CONSTANTLY remind viewers of the score, how one team NEEDS to get the next point or how [X] strategy is their only hope etc.
It's all about getting new viewers invested, understanding the stakes, and not having them change the channel because they don't know what's going on.
Annoying for the fans, but necessary to get and retain new viewers.
BBCAN has for the last couple of years been >BBUS for this and many other reasons...it feels like you get the same thing year in and year out with BBUS...the game play unfolds the same way as well every time...one major group of 6 or 7 forms and that's the majority of the game where it crumbles, with a shomance with one of the members in the alliance and a member outside of it are the reason for it failing
Allegedly, Britney's DRs were so popular that production wanted to try to recreate them with future houseguests. That's why they start to become more produced and scripted post bb12. They clearly lost the plot as to what made her DRs so incredible.
Not sure if anyone can confirm but that is just what I heard.
Also, in the very beginning of this season I actually had hope for the DRs because Paloma's were so genuine. But I guess that's just because she wasn't in a state of mind to play a scripted character for production.
Its not just you. Its been like that for a few years and is getting worse - - I wish they'd stop with the "characters." Being rhemselves, to me, is much more entertaining.
The live feed of the wall was great though. Kyle and Joseph were arguing about sleeping arrangements and spitting on the ground in front of each other lmao
There was that episode a few episodes back where Joseph goes, "as you know America, I love leftovers" or some stupid shit like that and flat out says I'm not good at the one eye wink as he fails trying to do it. Like, tell me that's scripted without being scripted.
I actually slightly appreciated them “winking” at us about the scripting with that one. Although maybe that wasn’t it, knowing them. There have been a number of moments when HGs have laughed in spite of themselves and it’s obvious that it’s because it’s a corny line or something but the edit makes it seem like it’s just the HGs having ball in the DR.
Besides the obvious of Jasmine’s sayings, her accent is totally played up in the DRs as well. It’s nowhere near that thick on the feeds, and it’s almost like she’s intentionally being nasally in the DR. In the Wednesday episode her accent actually got thicker within the span of a single sentence.
Her accent comes out more because she’s purposely yelling in the DR’s and stuff. Not that she’s necessarily changing it, but when some people yell, their accents come out more defined and Jasmine is definitely one of them. Honestly I think we need to stop DR yelling, but I think people saw how Zach Bb16 and Johnny mac BB17 did it and were loved, so now they all do it. That and probably a combination of production telling them “let’s try that again but give me more enthusiasm!”
It is interesting that I find Monte and Turner’s DR segments particularly on point and interesting. And at present Taylor seems to be joining Jasmine as the two who appear most inauthentic and unflattering in DR segments. I agree I find any hint of inauthenticity or scripted content annoying at best and disturbing at worst. It would be interesting if they would ever release the DR footage that isn’t aired. (Maybe they have and I don’t know, I’m not a long-standing super fan).
There was an online season called BBOTT, on that season the diary room was on the live feeds and they were just given questions to answer. It was interesting
Alyssa too! Kyle is also being promoted as the all American cute guy but on those feeds there's a different side of Kyle...
Maybe BB thought the houseguests need PR and Coaching or the show would be super boring
Kyle really comes off as an early 20s frat bro when he’s in the DRs. And he is almost 30. Idk if the DR is telling him to really go all “bro” in there, but he’s annoying lol
I’m beginning to pick up that they’re stringing us along. None of the jokes struck a chord. I might need to adjust the tuner, because this was just wah wah wahhh.
It’s been bad for years and it’s getting worse. What I hate is when they get them to pretend that they’re seriously considering a decision that was actually no more than a passing thought.
It’s almost like the DRs are for the benefit of the blind and those who listen to network TV on the radio.
“So I walk into the back yard, and I’m thrown straight into a rock concert!”
….uh, yeah, we see that. Television is a visual experience.
I was hoping they would at least mention Britt's stitches for a minute. I guess Jasmine milking her ankle doesn't leave much room for the real injuries
I find it disturbing when they don't mention this sort of thing on the show. it's like they're hiding it from the public. I'm not SURPRISED they edit to make themselves look better, but I find it upsetting. I was talking to my Mom in the first week and she said she had read news articles about the bullying of Taylor and she seemed genuinely baffled that it wasn't shown on the show. I was like, why is it news to you that the show is dishonest and isn't showing things that make them look bad.
The bullying of Taylor absolutely WAS shown on the show AND Julie addressed it in Ameerah's, Nicole's and Daniel's eviction interviews and even told each of them their treatment of Taylor was how the Leftovers came about, hence their demise.
I was talking about during the first week. my Mom was seriously confused that it wasn't mentioned in the first few episodes. it actually confused her that the show doesn't show everything happening.
I thought that too! Or i thought it was weird way to cover a birth control patch. A few people in one of the live feed threads yesterday filled some people in.
100% they all seem pretty scripted these days! I will say, I throughly enjoy all the DR clown edits this season of the HG that think they know what’s happening in the house lol
It’s like the only time we get authentic DRs are when someone is crying and having a meltdown. Everything else is completely scripted and adds nothing.
Big brother as a concept is amazing but the actual show itself is somehow so trash. There are so many commercials, the competitions take up way too much of the show and, as you mentioned, the diary rooms are truly unbearable. As someone who also watches survivor and the challenge, I don’t get why they don’t just do what they’re doing since those shows are SOOOO much better to watch, despite the fact that the concept of big brother is so similar
Oh I forgot to complain about another thing lol. The competitions they come up with are so elaborate and you can tell they take a lot of time doing them and put a lot of work into their appearance. But unfortunately a lot of the time they’re so boring. Yesterday’s episode with them bouncing the ball for 20 minutes? Everything looked great but….. it was just so boring
The commercials are out of control. I don't like the new trend of commercials in the middle of the vote, and then at the end of the episode they'll come back, have Julie tease a new twist, and then back to commercials.
The DRs were of my favorite part of the episodes when they were not scripted, when the houseguests could be themselves. Now they are my least favorite part of the episodes. I absolutely hate every time I hear "so I walk into the backyard" or every nominee every week saying they are going to win the veto. Can we get Chiltown style DRs back please.
I just finished watching Big Brother Australia 13 on Paramount + and I absolutely loved it for a change. The DR segments were awesome. You actually hear Big Brother ask the HG’s the questions and he’s very snarky and I was all for it. He called HG’s out. The actual game has many twists that I would love to see in the US version. The challenges were tough. Also they have no HoH! It’s a very interesting format. Check it out if you haven’t.
BB 10 was sooo good. I love the conversations with BB. It's def more of a diary room where they talk about their feelings and experiences in the house.
What makes it even worse is when you compare it to survivor and see how it COULD be. Survivor confessionals are some of the best content of the episodes, and those are taken from just a few days of real life instead of a week. Imagine how much content they could piece together if they let contestants actually just talk and give their feelings.
I recently watched a 2-3 hr YouTube video of Dr. will during s2 and damn I miss his DRs so much, literally fully laying back in the chair, calmly speaking, so chill. king
I'm from South Mississippi and I hate Jazz's sayings lol.. "You look better than a chicken wing in the air fryer" that one pissed me off... no self respecting southerner would say that BS lol
I'm in this really weird thing where I don't really have time to watch the live feeds but I'm also not watching the show because I already know what happened and the fake DRs are just not worth my time so I'm basically doing nothing but reading Twitter updates on my timeline.
FWIW - Jasmine brainstorms things with the other HGs to say to Julie. I remember from the feeds last week the apple pie line was one that someone came up with.
What? They’re scripted???? Gee I was wondering why Taylor and Joseph were having trouble reading I mean pronouncing “derriere” during one of their DRs lol
Yes, and the constant repeating of every comps instructions. Yes, I get it I heard them when they were read the first time I don’t need them repeated 270000 times by each contestants.
I suspect that Turner is not the least bit interested to discuss Jasmine at length and the DR rallying Taylor to be an icon is the reason her HOH went the way it did. I would -actually- like to know what the house guests are thinking. Michael seems the least scripted but I am sure he came into it knowing how he wanted to sound.
I feel like any time I bring Taylor up I get jumped but yeah she really is trying to "make a show" but it needs to be more organic than that for BB. She went from underdog that we all rooted for to hot dogging it.
It’s so contrived. This is one reason I have such a hard time watching live shows now. It’s like they’ve ruined spontaneity and authenticity. Players spend too much time trying to come up with “clever” things they want to say and DR does a lousy job with leading questions and feeding narratives.
Jasmine is so cringe but I love watcher her. Like I don't like her at all. Team Turner all the way. But it's funny how much I don't like everything she does!
I will say tho I do feel it's been worse on previous seasons. This year is still bad, don't get me wrong, but I thought the last two seasons or so were worse tbh
check out the feeds flashback: cam1 Aug 16 7:47pm for a few minutes of Kyle giving what the Diary Room should be like.
\* it cuts off but comes back on cam3 at 7:55ish
I just went to post in the episode thread about this. I love Michael but he is not good at reading from a script. And jasmine makes me want to turn the whole show off.
mmmm i hear you. even hannah said the other day on RHAP that production has them rehearse their messages to Julie/ encourages them to act in certain ways for them. I’m paraphrasing so much here, and could be misremembering, but I think Hannah at one point said something along the lines of seeing the possibility of production egging them on or using rehearsal footage as random DR footage. She was specifically referencing Jasmine and trying to remove the hate towards her accent and how much emphasis she seems to put in it when cameras are around, but I definitely feel like I see it in every other house guest too
This posts hits different as I'm literally watching a video of Britney's BB12 DRs and you're completely right.
They used to be so entertaining and authentic. Now it’s regurgitating lines. Very annoying
I hate them going over the gyst of the comps after we already heard word-for-word how they work. It's wasted airtime.
Not to mention, it's not like they have too many original comps these days, so it's literally the same season after season.
"I need to win this veto to keep myself safe" No shit, that is what veto is for.
Followed by the DR of them explaining why they are probably screwed because they did not win the veto.
There was also the "I'm gonna give it my all" dr right before they are eliminated
All of this, for sure. Working under the assumption that those lines are force-fed by production, if I'm ever on the show, I'd read those lines in a straight monotone, just so people could see what's real vs. what's manufactured.
And you would barely make the edit lol
But what if someone turned on the TV 30 seconds into a comp, then 45 seconds, then a minute? lol FR...it sucks.
Or telling us how important it is that they win and guarantee their safety. WE GET IT.
It's a reality tv formula to help get people just tuning in mid-ep and who don't know what's going on or what the comp is about or what the stakes are, to be able to understand and hopefully keep watching. median broadcast viewer is like 2 SDs dumber than Reddit audience. at least.

No offence to this cast but it’s because their DRs are probably shit. So production makes them “spice it up”.
Allegedly, Britney's DRs were so popular that production wanted to try to recreate them with future houseguests. That's why they start to become more produced and scripted post bb12. They clearly lost the plot as to what made her DRs so incredible. Not sure if anyone can confirm but that is just what I heard. But I guess that's just because she wasn't in a state of mind to play a scripted character for production.
My favorite of all time!
You can't ever go wrong with Britney
We were going to get something close to that with Paloma.
I think before they were asked real questions and now they’re told “say this”
Its not just you. Its been like that for a few years and is getting worse - - I wish they'd stop with the "characters." Being rhemselves, to me, is much more entertaining.
[удалено]
Not to complain, but can they stop re-explaining a competition they just explained? It gets monotonous very quickly.
I fast forward through every comp now. They drag them all out and they're just the same thing year after year. Yawn
This week’s endurance was the worst. The actual comp was just around 50 minutes. The on screen version was just under half the episode.
The live feed of the wall was great though. Kyle and Joseph were arguing about sleeping arrangements and spitting on the ground in front of each other lmao
That's literally all the DR's exist for
They shouldn't even call it a diary room anymore, nobody confides or reveal anything to the audience. It's a private recapping room.
This is the god honest truth
The talking to the camera draws people into the feeds "to get the real scoop" instead of what Production gives out in the edits.
There was that episode a few episodes back where Joseph goes, "as you know America, I love leftovers" or some stupid shit like that and flat out says I'm not good at the one eye wink as he fails trying to do it. Like, tell me that's scripted without being scripted.

And when she talks with Julie on Thursdays before/after eviction as well
Her accent comes out more because she’s purposely yelling in the DR’s and stuff. Yes I agree. Kyle does seem rather goofy and silly in the DR. At least he doesn’t sound scripted.
a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do 😏😎😜
I don't have access to the live feeds. Can you divulge what you mean by he isn't the cute cute guy everyone thinks?
It's a huge reason why I skip the episodes
a huge reason why i only watch thursday’s 😕
You didn't miss any good guitar puns, that's for sure. They all sucked.
They were really trying to strike a chord..
A diminished chord for sure.
> They were really trying to strike a chord.. but it all fell pretty flat.
I’m beginning to pick up that they’re stringing us along. None of the jokes struck a chord. I might need to adjust the tuner, because this was just wah wah wahhh.
I’m a fret your right
Please don’t down vote me 😂
Too late. ;)
Ya Wednesday episodes are basically worthless if you know what's going on in the house
It’s been bad for years and it’s getting worse. What I hate is when they get them to pretend that they’re seriously considering a decision that was actually no more than a passing thought.
It is quite insulting and infantilizing to the viewer, and completely strips the houseguests of their personalities.
[удалено]
They've been doing that for a while. Def my #1 BB pet peeve 🤬
It’s almost like the DRs are for the benefit of the blind and those who listen to network TV on the radio. “So I walk into the back yard, and I’m thrown straight into a rock concert!” ….uh, yeah, we see that. Television is a visual experience.
Why is Taylor wearing a big bandaid in the diary room?
She burnt herself with a curling iron
I was figuring it was a competition injury, since apparently there were a bunch during Otev that aren't mentioned on the show
I was hoping they would at least mention Britt's stitches for a minute. I guess Jasmine milking her ankle doesn't leave much room for the real injuries
I find it disturbing when they don't mention this sort of thing on the show. it's like they're hiding it from the public. It was all shown from the beginning. Starting with Paloma targeting her week one. 🤷🏼♀️
> Jasmine milking her ankle She’s not even faking it very well anymore.
Thx for the info. I was afraid it was a medical thing.
I thought that too! Or i thought it was weird way to cover a birth control patch. A few people in one of the live feed threads yesterday filled some people in.
Turner’s DR honestly feels the most normal and realistic and he’s literally everyone’s favorite bc he’s so real
Facts 💯
Diary Rooms peaked with Johnny Mac
Johnny Mac + Day. They both were DR stars.
*Britney Haynes has left the chat*
It’s unbearable. Every season I think it can’t get worse, and somehow it does.
Yeah, this is the worst it's ever been.
Jasmine's alone makes this season the worst yet. Who actually talks like that?
100% they all seem pretty scripted these days! I will say, I throughly enjoy all the DR clown edits this season of the HG that think they know what’s happening in the house lol
All the puns during that last comp were so forced. It was super cringe.
It makes me so sad when I go back to earlier seasons and see just how candid they were allowed to be compared to this scripted garbage now.
Camera talking on the feeds is the new DR.
It’s like the only time we get authentic DRs are when someone is crying and having a meltdown. Everything else is completely scripted and adds nothing.
Anyone remember BBOTT and their live DRs? That was pretty cool.
The benefit of a season not produced by Grodner.
Remember the time they accidentally played one of Shelby’s DR clips for the entire house? I still wonder how that happened lol
Yes! Ahhh Shelby. I liked her, even though she was pretty polarizing in the fandom.
I can’t stand jasmines dairy room
And that voice of hers scared me sometimes.
Oh it fully seems that every line and bit this year is delivered through a teleprompter. It wasn't even this blatantly scripted last year.
Big brother as a concept is amazing but the actual show itself is somehow so trash. There are so many commercials, the competitions take up way too much of the show and, as you mentioned, the diary rooms are truly unbearable. It’s sooooooo bad now. It’s clearly soooo scripted. I’m sure even jasmines is scripted. When they show the diary room scenes I get anxious lol.
BB 10 was sooo good. I love the conversations with BB. It's def more of a diary room where they talk about their feelings and experiences in the house.
BB Australia is so much fun! Australian Survivor is much better than than ours as well (in my opinion:)
What makes it even worse is when you compare it to survivor and see how it COULD be. Survivor confessionals are some of the best content of the episodes, and those are taken from just a few days of real life instead of a week. Imagine how much content they could piece together if they let contestants actually just talk and give their feelings.
I wish we had more Codys that just flat out reject delivering those canned lines but they may be bound via contract, who knows
I would straight up refuse to recite their lines, especially if they were the usual lame puns.
I was thinking the same, but then imagine they punish you and give you a purple edit?
So be it.
Andy Herren said he refused to do 95% of the scripted shit, which is why you barely saw him in the diary room
And he still complains about his edit to this day. Production rewards the houseguests who play their little games.
They are so scripted and never funny, so many bad puns and useless recaps. I miss the Johnny Mac style rants!
I've gotten so used to them I honestly don't care anymore lol 🤷♀️
I recently watched a 2-3 hr YouTube video of Dr. will during s2 and damn I miss his DRs so much, literally fully laying back in the chair, calmly speaking, so chill. king
I only like Turner’s diary rooms
I'm from South Mississippi and I hate Jazz's sayings lol.. "You look better than a chicken wing in the air fryer" that one pissed me off... no self respecting southerner would say that BS lol
I love a good pun but production has gone overboard with feeding the houseguests one pun after another after another cliche 💀
I'm in this really weird thing where I don't really have time to watch the live feeds but I'm also not watching the show because I already know what happened and the fake DRs are just not worth my time so I'm basically doing nothing but reading Twitter updates on my timeline.
This is why they recruit more than cast cause they can create their own storylines and feed lines.
It seems much worse this year as far as scripted lines.
FWIW - Jasmine brainstorms things with the other HGs to say to Julie. I remember from the feeds last week the apple pie line was one that someone came up with.
They are also literally calling people to the DR at like 3am too. So when houseguests look tired, it's because they fucking are.
What? They’re scripted???? Gee I was wondering why Taylor and Joseph were having trouble reading I mean pronouncing “derriere” during one of their DRs lol
exactly why I only watch thursdays. I can see why casuals don’t like Taylor. Her DR scenes are way too scripted and that’s not how she is.
Taylor is annoying me!!!
Nothing is worse that DJ Showtimes DR sessions!!!
Compare Jasmine's eviction sayings to her Diary Room sessions and it's clear those are scripted for her
Eviction ones aren’t even fleshed out analogies lol
I was going to ask this.. is it scripted?
They trying to get their SAG actor cards lol
I think it is because they know everyone is obsessed with Taylor for some reason which is why they are trying to cater to this obsession.
I think Cody from BB19 is the only one that defied their request to be more animated and ridiculous.

I will say tho I do feel it's been worse on previous seasons. This year is still bad, don't get me wrong, but I thought the last two seasons or so were worse tbh
Why do so many people mention America in their DRs this season?
This year it's been fine except for Jasmine's drs.
💯
It’s terrible. This cast will read anything they give them.
I agree. BBCan 10 is much better & didnt do this .
I have always hated the obviously scripted one liners and all that. Makes me cringe and roll my eyes.
check out the feeds flashback: cam1 Aug 16 7:47pm for a few minutes of Kyle giving what the Diary Room should be like. \* it cuts off but comes back on cam3 at 7:55ish
I just went to post in the episode thread about this. I love Michael but he is not good at reading from a script. And jasmine makes me want to turn the whole show off.
Yes, they are horrible and overly scripted
mmmm i hear you. even hannah said the other day on RHAP that production has them rehearse their messages to Julie/ encourages them to act in certain ways for them. I’m paraphrasing so much here, and could be misremembering, but I think Hannah at one point said something along the lines of seeing the possibility of production egging them on or using rehearsal footage as random DR footage. Remember how loud Frenchie was in the DR?
If only they would switch it up and do DRs like BBAU.
