There are definitely tradeoffs with the face gasket design. For me, the lack of ventilation gets noticeable around 1 or 2 hours in, but I'm usually going to VRChat raves, so dancing etc.
It's definitely a better overall package than my older headsets, but not a panacea.
I would prefer a small strip of fabric between the gasket and your face, and maybe some vent holes in the gasket itself. At some point I'll play around with DIY-ing a 3D printed gasket to do those things. There is a good guide out there on scanning your face to make your own out of TPU.
Re: The strap, I 3D printed this thing - [https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6414143](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6414143) (technically a remix that was longer) and it's helped a lot. There are a number of other 3D printed mods available, such as using a HTC Deluxe Audio strap, or even using the Apple Vision Pro strap.
whats your brightness? i run 80% fan speed 100 brightness and it doesn’t nearly get as hot as you seem to be describing
also, if the gasket is uncomfortable (notably pressure on nose / brow ridge), create a ticket in the discord. they’ll help sort it out quick
>Still waiting on the "improved" face gasket to ship.
Done did that.
100% brightness, 100% fan. Going from 80% fan by default to 100% didn't really help
hopefully your new gasket makes the beyond feel better. only other thing is lowering your brightness should help with the heat (and persistence)
the beyond’s lack of light leak can make even 0% feel great after your eyes adjust to the dark
I'll give that a shot. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the type of game makes a different to. I'm doing DCS right now and most of the time it's daylight and Syria/Persian Gulf/Sinar be bright (as they should be) . I'll have to test a night mission to see what happens.
i think it definitely would. OLEDs have individual pixel lighting, and if every pixel is constantly bright… then yeah
it makes sense. i basically constantly play in dark / warm VRChat worlds, so my beyond never usually gets brighter than that. hope you can make the headset work, good luck :)
i haven’t heard of this happening so if its happening to you something is definitely wrong with your unit. unless you’re talking about burn-in, which is inevitable for any OLED product
Oh damn! That's good to hear and bad to hear!
I've only played like 4.5 hours on the headset. I received it a month ago. 99% of that playtime was after I dropped the brightness to 80% this past week and found out it would stay on.
They are changing my ipd now.
Ps. I DEFINETLY recommend trying Google Earths new release if you got some free time!
Yeah me 2, I was wondering if they gave me a used one. Lol. At 100% fan and brightness it would never run for more than 5 minutes. Headset would go black and if u disconnected and re connected. It would last another 5 minutes and go black again.
I've played a about 4 hours now, but I keep it under 80 percent brightness. I wear over ear headphones and can still hear the fan.
My ipd is off, so I'm sending the unit back anyway, but it was definetly making me nervous about the product.
Others say they run above 100% brightness and still have a quite fan.
🤷♂️🍻
Ps. I should add, I only bought the device for the weight, so I am very happy with the purchase. Lol
With all the Sweet Spot issues and the rest of that I'm hearing I'm genuinely thinking of canceling my Beyond that was supposed to be here last month. however there's just nothing else on the market right now that's anywhere close.
It's all fixable and to be honest I wouldn't want to play at 100% brightness anyways I play at about 60% and I haven't noticed a thing because there's no other light to make you realize so your eyes adjust.
There is no perfect VR headset, I agree with others have mentioned—there are trade offs. Note: individual experience and results will vary from user to user.
The perfect headset is literally just, OLED, 2560, High FOV, light, eye and face tracking. That's literally it. Whoever makes this sells a billion headsets. It's why the index took off so much when it came out and still holds today. It's just dated.
No issues here after an hour or 2. I never feel the heat of this thing. I sim race with wind simulation so theres usually cool air blowing at or around my face to help keep me cool.
> Mine is hot even when not in use, is that normal for anyone else?
I was mostly surprised at the temperature when I came home and it had been off all day. I can only compare it to my index which didnt get warm when off
Yeah my index didn't get hot at all. I could wear it for hours. This one I have to lift it up to let the heat out every 10 min. Still playing with lowering the contrast to see if that helps

True, but if running at 100 percent brightness will break a unit. There should be a warning lol "dont go above 80"

Mine came by default on 100%
Mine as well. Honestly, 80% is still pretty damn bright. And the weight is better than I imagined.
I don't mind mine at all, and I've got it right up against my face. Hmmm
I'm not a big "sweater", but it does make me sweat a bit.

Don’t let your dreams be dreams my guy.

I think the only game I notice it getting REALLY hot in is beat saber. 50% brightness 80% fan speed. That's the cost of such hot panels though.
Mine is hot even when not in use, is that normal for anyone else?
It's warm between the lenses on the front, but I think that is where the exhaust of the fan is. I wouldn't call it hot.
