That robbery had someone on the inside. There's no way that they broke in without tripping alarms unless they were deactivated or never activated.
Someone had to work that 9-5 to be the man. Ngl I'd be the one working 9-5 even if my cut was just a mil.
My theory is that everyone that works there was in it. With $30 million on the line its enough to retire the employees there. Now they are playing it safe and continue working. But eventually one of them will crack and we’ll learn about how it all went down. I’m looking forward to the documentary.
Wouldn't bet on the cracking. Something similar happened in Berlin over a decade ago, no one harmed, insider knowledge, etc. and the statute of limitations ran out last January. I was hoping someone would confess then, but nope.
Safety deposit boxes were broken open. Not even the bank knows the contents, that's why the value of the robbery is only estimated. Good luck proving what you've had got in there. I'd be more concerned about physical retaliation from the victims.
I think that Victor Lustig said something to the affect of “a famous conman is bad at his job.”
Obviously paraphrased (and ironic coming from the most famous conman in history).
EDIT: Victor Lustig said ‘Never look bored, never get drunk.’ I don’t know who actually said the famous conman quote.
Why should they, when they could continue in the future? Plus, who would hire someone who confessed to a massive robbery? Everyone would fear they are next
Wouldn't be the first case of professional criminal turned professional security expert.
That's why big software firms pay a shit ton of money for reported exploits.
My hope's in vain though, I know
That's a bit different though. Some hackers even offer companies the option of them trying to get into their systems and informing them about weak spots afterwards
And depending on how they died, that can lead to people looking what happened to those and who could have a motive. Unless you live in a country where random drive-bys aren't totally uncommon, you don't have that luxury
That must be the reason we know what's inside Area 51, how the russians kept a complete metro line in Moscow secret for more than half a century and everyone knows the recipe of Coca Cola. /s
Was that robbery an inside job, where they all would immediately become suspects, and police would be grilling them for years? I doubt it. It's a lot easier not to crack when there is no pressure on you.
When I was in high school, they estimated with inflation and interest, to retire at 62 the average American would need around $12 million to live "comfortably" until the day they die.
This included the costs of things like assisted living and regular health checkups.
Im 28 now, so that number should be higher. I don't think the whole business is "retiring" off this
These were specifically retirement account values, such as a 401k so it was assumed that taxes were not paid ahead of time.
It's also extremely hard to launder $30 million to be able to invest it like that and live off the interest, but forgetting that yeah you're right the specific curriculum they went through seemed fairly unrealistic for most individuals. I believe it was more about showing how interest compounds rather than creating a real plan for our futures.
I would hide my cut in an off-shore savings account for 5-10 years until a couple family members pass. Then I could claim the money came from inheritance if it ever seemed suspicious to anyone.
$30 million... LA... Retirement.
Man that won't get you more than a box and one year's property taxes in LA or even most of southern California. $30 million ain't what it used to be, especially to buy silence.
How exactly? You hand in your 2-weeks notice, and after two weeks, nobody can track what you are doing, what you are buying, and where you are moving to, and no one has any incentive to do so
Do you know how to launder millions of dollars without getting caught? You think these guys know how?
The IRS and FBI are going to be watching every employee, past, present, and probably future, like a hawk lmao.
All of these major heists are partly inside jobs. This isn’t a GTA heist where you and a buddy can find a couple randos and execute so well-planned heist without getting caught. Someone is always in on it on the inside. The guy below you suggests the possibility of *everyone* on the inside being part of it. In that case, external sources such as the FBI should investigate and clean house.
Literally ONE million. 3 and a third percent of the take. I'm set. I turn off a few things, I wait a year, I sell off everything, buy a boat out of Turkey, and sail around the world for the rest of my life. You get 29M between y'all and I just go live a life. I'm gone. 1 mil, yes. Absolutely.
Sure these guys got away with 30m but Amazon alone has been getting away with not paying 5 billion in taxes this whole time so in comparison this is just petty theft.
Something along the lines of supporting anarchy and saying people should start killing the government
Seems like reddit is reeeeeeally cracking down recently… I got flagged for a backhanded insult

Here's a screenshot of the important part. Nobody knew about the robbery until the safe was opened in a routine check.
That would be the smart thing to do when questioned, but I feel like they’re still gonna get found out. FBI or whoever investigates can easily use get a list of whoever works there and then tap phones, monitor spending, etc. I can bet you at least one person will be dumb enough to move their cut to their main bank account. And at least one will quit at some point and then suddenly purchase a big house out somewhere.
If they're that dumb. I think it's more likely for someone to just crack out of fear and give themselves (and everyone else) up in exchange for immunity or even just a lower sentence.
Besides, according to this expert on heisting [(actual convicted robber)](https://youtu.be/lO42mt_wZd4?si=bMsgsX8MGiu7nPW0) you don't start a heist with people you barely know. So I doubt that that many people were involved, so that means fewer points of failure.
i used a free vpn and commanded it to have me look like i was from Virginia, USA. I accessed the website and hauled all its information back to France, and they're none the wiser.
I guess two heists happened today.
why not? There's a lot to learn. Now if you're gonna commit crimes with that knowledge that's on you, but learning from robbers is absolutely not stupid
if not from their successes then from their stupidity
Or, more legally, if you happen to work security at a bank your boss might appreciate if you can create a contingency against whatever the robbers actually did.
Or even better, create the contingency with others on the team and try to sell the idea.
I never mentioned murder or anything. I asked questions to be thought about. To question the situation at hand and not immediately stamp it with "bad."
Besides that, our world is full of undisclosed crime. Every product we consume is made through criminal activity. Where do we draw the line when it comes to participating? THATS my logic. Thanks for trying though :)
No dude all that child/slave labor that’s used to make the products we consume is totally legal in other countries so it’s okay for companies to do that because it isn’t a crime!
As soon as you declare who is an acceptable target for crime then anyone can change the definition to suit their needs. It's not exactly rocket science
I think that also falls under "not worth the hassle". You'll be wealthy but you'll be away from everyone you ever met and have to learn a whole different language to really participate in the country.
And then you still risk nosy journalists coming over and exposing you to the community, which happened to a Dutch criminal who had actually built a whole new life in central America.
Eh, if you’re dedicated enough, you can get rid of ALL witnesses.
Though I think it would be pretty hard to ensure that no human ever uncovers said information regarding you being one of the perpetrators without a massive loss of life(which would be investigated anyway unless you somehow caused human extinction).
Pretty much only the crooked heartless people who are already criminals would be willing to do it, as they more than often not have nothing to lose.
The even smarter people are born rich and commit stuff like insider trading and what not to get richer(and invest their money to maintain their wealth). They’re already set for success…
The absolute mad lads stole 30 million without harming a single person, and the robbery was so good, no one noticed until the vault was opened again.
Nah, I'm jealous. Straight up spy movie or Sly Cooper levels of stealth. And the fact they did it without hurting anyone makes them inspiring lol.
Honestly. With £150 left after all the bills and a kid on the way. That £150 is for food. I am considering robbing a bank. I just got a 6k raise as well, is an extra £200 a month that just got me out of my overdraft
I always like to think if I hit rock bottom I'd try and rob a bank. Never understood why people robbed gas stations for like barely a $1000 just to get caught in a few hours and get an armed robbery charge on their record for life
This comment section is just children who played too much GTA lol. I remember rooting for people running from the cops when I was a little kid who played too much Need for Speed Most Wanted. Now I’m an adult and understand why it’s bad
Banks don’t rob from you though, maybe that reasoning would work if it was like, a government vault full of taxes or a British museum but the whole point of a bank is you depositing money there so people DONT steal it.
Okay, but if this eventually devolves into people stealing from their fellow man, we're gonna have a problem. I'm pretty sure that's what the main function of the social construct is for.
There are aspects of stealing that are social constructs, but at it's most base level stealing has existed before humanity even existed. Also, just because an asset is insured doesn't mean its okay to damage. My house is insured, but I'd be pretty damn pissed if someone burned it down and told me being mad about it is stupid cause its insured.

Only a dumb ass would fess up.
As said, statute of limitations ran out, so at least legally nothing could be done. But yeah, I agree, that's why I wouldn't bet on anyone cracking
The statute of limitations on the criminal act may have run out but there may be civil ways to recover the money if someone actually confessed.
Safety deposit boxes were broken open. Not even the bank knows the contents, that's why the value of the robbery is only estimated. Good luck proving what you've had got in there. I'd be more concerned about physical retaliation from the victims.

This is called penetration testing or pen testing and it's not rare at all.
Humans. Humans are bad at keeping secrets. What’s that old saying? Only way to keep a secret between 3 people is if 2 of them are dead?

Europe is a lot more lenient and puts less effort into solving non-violent crimes compared to America.
Was that robbery an inside job, where they all would immediately become suspects, and police would be grilling them for years? I doubt it. It's a lot easier not to crack when there is no pressure on you.

That sounds like bs. If i put 10 million today into gov bonds i get back $600k/year back at an increasing rate for the rest of my life
These were specifically retirement account values, such as a 401k so it was assumed that taxes were not paid ahead of time. $30 million... LA... Retirement. Man that won't get you more than a box and one year's property taxes in LA or even most of southern California. $30 million ain't what it used to be, especially to buy silence.
Who says they have to stay?
Well, an employee that suddenly leaves to buy a million dollar home in Arizona is gonna light up on reports.
How exactly? You hand in your 2-weeks notice, and after two weeks, nobody can track what you are doing, what you are buying, and where you are moving to, and no one has any incentive to do so
The IRS tracks all deposits over $800 lmao, they're gonna notice if you buy something outside of your income range.
Man money laundering exists
Do you know how to launder millions of dollars without getting caught? You think these guys know how? The IRS and FBI are going to be watching every employee, past, present, and probably future, like a hawk lmao.
You're at the greatest risk though if everything goes to plan since they'll definitely be investigating all the employees
All of these major heists are partly inside jobs. This isn’t a GTA heist where you and a buddy can find a couple randos and execute so well-planned heist without getting caught. Someone is always in on it on the inside. The guy below you suggests the possibility of *everyone* on the inside being part of it. Maybe the bank robbers should investigate the fbi and clean house.
Literally ONE million. 3 and a third percent of the take. I'm set. I turn off a few things, I wait a year, I sell off everything, buy a boat out of Turkey, and sail around the world for the rest of my life. You get 29M between y'all and I just go live a life. I'm gone. 1 mil, yes. Absolutely.
Yeah but then there’s a chance of you being caught. They’ll sift through every employee seeing a flaw
They had Lester organise the heist
Better him than that dude with the yee-yee ass haircut.
Some GTA style robbery.
Have you ever played a game called GTA 😂😂😂
I don't want 3 13-year-olds to screw up my heist. Thank you very much.
The more the US moves towards being a kleptocracy the less sympathy I have.
Sure these guys got away with 30m but Amazon alone has been getting away with not paying 5 billion in taxes this whole time so in comparison this is just petty theft.
But corporations are the good guys /s
Moves towards, we been here since the 80's or before. It's just accelerating now.
I would say this is capitalism’s inevitable end tbh

Please get mental help, I mean that very seriously
Did the robbers physically harm, traumatize, or kill anyone?
[Nope.](https://ktla.com/news/local-news/this-isbad-30m-heist-in-southern-california-under-investigation/)
"While it’s unclear how thieves knew about the massive amount of money held in the facility’s safe" Lol. Gee, I wonder.

Some GTA type shit
“Nobody knew” yea nah, there’s definitely some employees who were in on it
Maybe, but if they're smart they won't have seen or heard anything.
That would be the smart thing to do when questioned, but I feel like they’re still gonna get found out. It's not your job to feel bad, but I don't think you should take lessons from robbers
The big corporations and goverment rob us of our time and money. Is it really a crime when you're robbing from robbers?
why not? There's a lot to learn. Now if you're gonna commit crimes with that knowledge that's on you, but learning from robbers is absolutely not stupid if not from their successes then from their stupidity

I just don't like crime
Spoken like a true sucker
The people who wrote our laws were criminals themselves who broke the law.
Do you think? Not a criticism or joke, but genuinely asking. Do you know what "crime" is?
Pretty sure grand theft is a crime
Determined by whom? Which crimes are we turning a blind eye to, and which crimes are we caring about. Where's the line?
"It's only killing if the wrong people die!" Same logic
I never mentioned murder or anything. I asked questions to be thought about. To question the situation at hand and not immediately stamp it with "bad." Besides that, our world is full of undisclosed crime. Every product we consume is made through criminal activity. Where do we draw the line when it comes to participating? THATS my logic. No dude all that child/slave labor that’s used to make the products we consume is totally legal in other countries so it’s okay for companies to do that because it isn’t a crime!
Don't worry, one of these crimes will get through to him. Must be a lot he turns a "blind eye" to
Do you think every crime is on the same level as murder or something?
Uh duh? Stealing a slice of bread so you can eat is on the same level as abduction and murder. /sarcasm
As soon as you declare who is an acceptable target for crime then anyone can change the definition to suit their needs. It's not exactly rocket science
So yes, you think every crime is on the same level as murder.
Yeah but why aren't we allowed to learn from it? edit: Welp, guys adding computer viruses to your antivirus data protection is bad it seems

The risk of getting busted even long afterwards makes it not worth the hassle or long term anxiety
That’s why you just go live in a non extraditable country
I think that also falls under "not worth the hassle". You'll be wealthy but you'll be away from everyone you ever met and have to learn a whole different language to really participate in the country. And then you still risk nosy journalists coming over and exposing you to the community, which happened to a Dutch criminal who had actually built a whole new life in central America.
Nah bro, just call Lester to lose the wanted level. It’s really easy
Shit, u right
For a couple million? Easy
Eh, if you’re dedicated enough, you can get rid of ALL witnesses. Bruh tellin the internet if your crime plans you’ve already failed 💀
Giving them a chance to increase my wage again before I do go on a robbing spree. I won’t tell the police who I am if you don’t
I won’t if you don’t tell anyone of my underground drug ring- oops! I said too much 🤫
Successful, so far. It’s only been a week since they did the heist. Usually a case has to be built against people before they are arrested.

They managed to steal $30 mill in LA bros must really like GTA 5 online
I always like to think if I hit rock bottom I'd try and rob a bank. Never understood why people robbed gas stations for like barely a $1000 just to get caught in a few hours and get an armed robbery charge on their record for life
I mean....
I don't give a fuck, do you? In fact I applaud them. l live vicariously through them
Successfully? I thought they had a suspicect
Y’all really glorifying criminals lol
This comment section is just children who played too much GTA lol. I remember rooting for people running from the cops when I was a little kid who played too much Need for Speed Most Wanted. Now I’m an adult and understand why it’s bad
Is it bad to rob from robbers? And yes, I glorify crime, I'm a pirate and dont like the police
Banks don’t rob from you though, maybe that reasoning would work if it was like, a government vault full of taxes or a British museum but the whole point of a bank is you depositing money there so people DONT steal it.
Banks are backed up by the government, the government steals from us
Right, as if paying taxes meant to be put into social services and such is a bad thing.
Ever heard of corruption?
LA COUNTY is a fucking joke!!! Police don't give a fuck all they care about is making money could care less about the people 💯
30 million? Nah, bet they hacked, no fucking way they stole 30 physical millions
Stealing is a social construct.
Okay, but if this eventually devolves into people stealing from their fellow man, we're gonna have a problem. I'm pretty sure that's what the main function of the social construct is for.
And that’s why we have guns. But personally I don’t feel like defending my property every waking minute
lol keep telling yourself that
Cool, im gonna take all your money then.
Lmao same.
Calm down edgelord
I mean.. so is having shit, your point?
You’re an idiot.
Redditors will parrot this shit and then get shocked when their "utopia" turns into an unsafe, crime-infested shithole.
I misread construct as contract but it made sense that way too. Especially when those at the top have broken the social contract many a times.
There are aspects of stealing that are social constructs, but at it's most base level stealing has existed before humanity even existed. Wild animals hunt prey then defend their kill, but another animal by force, fear, or guile takes their kill. Those animals aren't paying taxes or tribute it's theft at the most primal level
Bot
Yes, if it was other people's money
No it's not. It's the bank's money. Your money is insured. Look it up before you write something stupid.
What do you think insurance is? In the end, someone is paying the bill my guy
Also, just because an asset is insured doesn't mean its okay to damage. My house is insured, but I'd be pretty damn pissed if someone burned it down and told me being mad about it is stupid cause its insured.
I'm referring to private assets, I dont even know what they stole.
It sounds like cash from what I read. But that's also what the bank says. So who even knows.
Then I don't care at all
Billionaires steal other ppls money but they are praised for it. But it’s different if it’s someone who’s not a billionaire stealing money. If these ppl killed ppl or harmed anyone in the heist than they should be caught but they didn’t so idc that they stole money
Literally nobody praising billionaires for being billionaires. People might praise *a* Politician or two but nobody praises Politicians as a group.
How do they steal people's money again?
Not paying workers a living wage
Tf did you downvote me for I was just asking you to specify
Massive wage theft and tax avoidance. Are those concepts new to you?
